Every company's destiny is growth. Cave did their best to carve out new potential areas for expansion until they released Deathsmiles II and Instant Brain, realised their serious limitations in modern game production, decided that they had hemorrhaged far too much capital, needed to put all future projects on hold, and reprinted everything ad-infinitum to try to cover all the staff on their payroll.

Fire everyone except Ikeda, let him pick a team, up their wages, make some new shmups. Overheads down, profits up, Cave and shmups live on.

Hahah...my post gets deleted but all the crybaby posts are allowed to remain. Who knew that Shmups forum was the new Gestapo?!?! Funny how the preferred thing this forum seems to do now is attack Cave. When I started coming here a few years back it was sacrilege to criticize anything Cave did, even when they deserved it (ie Ketsui box art...ughhhhh...), and now defending them is considered out of line. Hilarity such as has never been seen...

In the end the whiners will whine just like they are doing, be pissed that they didn't buy it at launch, and pay me $1200 for one of my new copies in two year's time.

And I'm calling it right now. All of you complainers are going to flip your opinions when this presells out and all we'll hear about then is how unfair it was you couldn't order a copy.

Well, I'm not complaining. I'm just disinterested, and am curious just how this can be marketed to anyone but die-hard Cave fans. I understand, though - it's not marketed towards anyone but die-hard Cave fans. Given Cave's [unfortunately] niche appeal, I can see why, but I don't know how much long-term good can come from milking rereleases and throwing in superplays.

Alternatively, folks interested in new shooters but who may not necessarily care for existing characters and brands might be able to get the games they're looking for if Cave simply does go under now. Anybody on staff hungry enough to make shooters may start up new companies with vastly lower overhead.

Question remains, who exactly is the target audience of this?
-People like me who have already imported every single one of their 360 games at launch? Why should I buy games that I already own again?
-People who don't own any of the games in this collection? Why would anyone who hasn't played the games (and isn't already a fan) drop that much money (virtually the price of a game console) on a single collection?
So who is this aimed at?
I do not understand Cave's sales strategy, if there is one.

And yes, the hoarder-collector within me would indeed like to have it, but I'm not sure I can justify it at that price. If it was sold for ~$150, I'd have no problem to double-dip.

I don't understand how so many of you could be so obtuse, whining on and on about your inability to grasp Cave's strategy with this release.

1. Either your statements are rhetorical (in which case, their construction/delivery needs a bit more attention) and you're simply trying to establish yourself and your thinking as "sensible, amidst this madness!"

OR

2. You're (somehow) unintelligent enough to not understand (even after it's been explained in this thread) what Cave's current MO is.

IF 2, THEN
Let me explain it to you one final time, that it may be let go of and never again addressed in this thread (aside from a satirical referencing of this post [which I expect]):

This is a way for cave to repackage/resell their goods; it's a good way for them to get a cash injection without much investment. THE END.

The reality of THAT Is so obvious their actions need no further discernment from the fans OR the cynics.
As a result of the clash between the ignorant and the informed, further abstraction/speculation is only going to lead to more fruitless arguing

The dumbest part of this post is that you think we don't already know that.

That's the criticism, ffs.
Friendly wrote:Question remains, who exactly is the target audience of this?
As EmperorIng noted, it's targeted at Cave's hardcore existing fanbase. There is no logic in this except for the fact that Cave know that they can keep reproducing the same content as many times as they like because they have a novelty niche around which they have cultivated an air of desirability (see: must have.)

They are central to all things shmup, and central to all things collector oriented in the shmup domain. Therefore a lucrative boxset loaded with reproduced content will indeed sell to the poor fools who already purchased it all over the last few years, simply because it has the Cave logo on it. They're just exploiting their influence over their fanbase, because they know it consists of suckers who have gotta have it all, and as kid aphex so deftly pointed out, are probably fucking broke.

I am somewhat interested in this collection, since I only own about 1/3 of the games in it. If I can sell off those I already own, I might order this.

I'm interested in playing Mushihime-sama HD, DFK BL, Deathsmiles MBL, Pink Sweets Arrange, Espgaluda 2, Ketsupachi, and somewhat interested in owning Akai Katana. Not very interested the other games/DLC I don't already own, but I wouldn't mind having them.

Pretty much this.

That's also why I think they'll put the games on the minimum number of disks, since it would maximize the amount of profit they'll make from it.

Hahaha....it was a joke, though I am buying a couple copies as my first post indicated. But thank you for COMPLETELY PROVING MY POINT! My post that referred to the general bitchiness and crybaby attitude gets deleted but you're allowed to address me on an individual level with hostility?!?! Ok then....

Thanks for showing that the vocal minority here really are the jerk-wads I claimed in my initial post. I'll reiterate it once more. Cave the crybabies here are the same ones who only buy your product used on ebay, bargain binned on amazon, etc...they are NOT your consumer and the fact that they can't understand the rationale of this release means a whole lot of absolutely nothing. They wouldn't be buying this release anyways, they'll bitch when it's presold out, and then bitch about it when it's 3-4 times original cost on Ebay in a couple years. Even though they are completely capable of finding a way to afford this release; they're just to shortsighted to realize that and would rather piss and moan about it rather than find a way to have a nice collection in their gaming library. I don't even know why half these people post here anyways...you'd think people would have something better to do than complain about something they aren't even buying.

I'm not interested in this collection as it's out of my price range and I already own all the region free games, but I don't see the harm in this release, it's not as if CAVE are forcing ppl to buy it.

As for the question if these are region free or not, my guess is that these will be the same as the original releases, so Futari is RF, Futari BL & Guwange will be DLC codes and Deathsmiles will be region locked.

I think MMP & PS would have been a big attraction to ppl who dont have it, CAVE should have kept quiet about it's reprint in Feb

@Cuilan
Your stance makes sense from a non-collector standpoint (get the games you don't already have, sell the duplicates). I assume you are a tiny minority, though. If someone already owns some or all of Cave's first print limited editions of the games in the collection, they are unlikely to sell them off for this.

@Zero Gunner
Are you including me in this blanket statement, too? Did you see my post? I didn't buy a single one of Cave's 360 games at bargain bin prices or used.
I am simply a conscious consumer who doesn't buy anything blindly regardless of whether I already own it, just because it bears the logo of a certain company. Which probably means Cave is not targeting me with this.

I deleted your original post because it was pointlessly rude and hostile. I deleted and edited others because they contained it or were responses in a similarly rude and hostile manner.

You can have your argument in a more civilised manner, or I can close the thread and start handing out warnings, up to you.

Die-hard cave fans (or just fans) who became die-hard (or just fan) in the middle of 360 releases, have only few games without any DLCs, but surely are going to buy all of them someday.
I just cannot believe that this shitstorm is real. Seriously, am I dreaming?

I think your assessment as "shitstorm" is over-exaggerated.

Zero Gunner is throwing around nasty insults because some people don't want to buy this package (and/or have the audacity to be puzzled by Cave's business decisions), Skykid's post with that picture of milk which I suspect might be subliminally connected to his big-titted avatar, and the recurrent topic of Cave finances since we are all a bunch of gossiping whores.

Since we are all speculating about CAVE, does anyone have an inkling what they intend to do after SDOJ? Has there been anything to suggest they're doing anything on the WiiU?

I haven't been following events lately but the odd snipits of interviews on Siliconera suggests they at least want to get into online multiplayer shmups. Even Rising Star Games mentions MP shmups are a good thing.

In that case, they need to create a new sub-genre, that's not an easy thing. Or do a copy of Twikle Star Sprites.

Or a vs. where one player plays the ship and the other player plays the Cave boss, ha ha.

In the SDOJ interview I translated, one of the guys said they are still working on new STG title(s) for "hardcore" fans. Beyond that, I don't think anyone really knows anything about whats going on.
