Awwwwwww it plays like a 2-D game and controls like one. If you can't have fun spraying giant fire fighters to death with hoses then yes your on crack.

That's called "2.5-d" and many people would consider it a 2D game in spirit.

i thought the game was terrible.....its a mediocre game based around a graphics engine the saturn cant really handle...it looks terrible......

but hey...you like it....i dont.......crack has nothing to with it....well maybe a little bit.....you are claiming a game which is obviously 3-D in every way (for the time) is 2-D......

any other games to suggest?

...and i have no problem with 3-D beat em ups.....just bad ones

and i dont really think it constitutes 2.5-D.....the characters are 3-D.....they move in 3-D......the game moves in 3-D.......the camera displays in 3-D.....am i missing somthing here......

ahhhhh yes...the crack

Haha, alright, well from what I looked at, the game appeared to be a standard left-right foreground-background movement beat 'em up. So that's 2.5D... right? Beat em ups are usually left-right foreground-background movement but with 2D graphics. So a game with 2D beat 'em up gameplay with 3D graphics is called 2.5D. 3D graphics, 2D game-type gameplay.

edit: ah I see that the term can mean a different thing. Yeah, no argument that it's 3D graphics but it looked like it had regular beat 'em up gameplay for the most part, and I've heard 2.5D with a different meaning applied to many games like that.

Night Slashers is awesome, especially the one retardly cocky character. I 2nd the motion for whoever recommended Violent Storm and Ninja Baseball Batmen.

If 2 Crude Dude's count's then check out Bad Dudes VS Dragon Ninja.

Although not quite a Beat em up check Out Trio The Punch Never Forget. It's like Data East's Parodius. Their like yeah we know are collision sucks and that we repeat the same mid-bosses too many times so let's make a joke out of it. They do everything they could to make it into a bad game but if you take as a joke making fun of simple 2-D game design you'll probably enjoy it. It's charming and worth playing for the WTF factor. Considering that Data East and normal never got along very well you can just imagine what a game where it's supposed to be weird would be like, or not.

Karate Blazers by Video Systems. I just won this off of Ebay for nearly nothing. Pretty cool game that has one of the weirdest boards ever. 2 Jamma edges, the left one controls players 1 and 2, right controls players 3 and 4. Game works on both of them just fine.

Mystic Warriors
Battletoads
Knuckle Bash, OH HELLZ YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!
GROWL
Silent Dragon

That's just out of stuff I own, but I think a few of those are decently rare. Knuckle Bash is by everyone's fav Toaplan.

Vigilante: One thing really awesome about it is the first boss insta-kill. Knock him on his ass, then hold D and spam P+K,P+K,P+K rapidly (won't work if you have nunchucks). It sounds like a machine gun and the boss will go down in about 2 seconds. The boss voiceover which sounds like "Haycommer!" is hilarious thanks to the speech synthesis, maybe even a little bit more on the 3 Megabit TG-16 version. Hitting the enemy produces some nice "KRAK! KRAK! SHPLAKK!" impact sounds on the arcade version. Some of the bosses can even be socked in the family jewels.

Spike Out Battle Street (Xbox) : Better than Fighting Force IMO. Thanks to Shinji Hosoe & Ayako Saso, this one sounds great as well.

Ninja Warriors "Again" (SNES) : The SFII-style jump-in combos and "meaty attacks" raise the ownage factor. Especially awesome when you play on Hard mode.

The PS2 re-release of AS has decent graphics, but your character's movement speed is relatively SLOW on that one. You don't have enough time to save all the hostages, which is actually pretty easy to do on the arcade.

Sega's four player Arabian Fight. The most excessive use of zooming and outrageously huge sprites ever! Definitely closer to "novelty" than "good", but hey.

Haha I remember Vigilante, I had that for my Amiga. That also gave me a flash back to Red Heat on the Amiga, a truely terrible beat-em-up game, it's gotta be one of the worst ever made:

Quorthon wrote:Really, no one mentions Die Hard Arcade on the Saturn? That game is fun as hell. Dreadful, awful cutscenes, but so much fun.
Yeah, I'm with Quorthon. Die Hard Arcade (or Dynamite Deka) is superb. Also, another EXCEPTIONALLY overlooked and amazingly cool game is Three Dirty Dwarves. You control 3 characters simultaneously and travel through a mutant, quasi-medieval New York City and kill monsters and homeless people. It's 100% original.

Definitely reconfirming Armored Warriors. I just had to mention it again.

Playing it with four people is insane. Awesome old school mechanical carnage.
