I guess the legacy will never die, that's cool. Game looks ehh, tho, and smartphone shmups...Well, you know.
I wonder if we will ever get another ikaruga or r type final or gradius 5 or something. Not talking about their qualities, just a good looking game that brings a shit ton of people into, or back into shmups.

In Tokyo, no less...I can't imagine why that position hasn't been filled yet.

With unlimited cup ramen supply and a blanket I'm sure some NEET would take it.

Where I live they recruit graduates, paying min wage for jobs a child could do. Just too many graduates and no actual work.
I have a qualification equivalent to 2 yrs of a computer science degree, I have to jerk off old men for £10 3 times a day and live on ramen and sausage.

Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Looking at the whole thing, the entire plan just seems insane.
A team of guys, ex cave, renting what looks like some ghetto apartment, instantly giving themselves overheads, show a game that in honesty looks like a one man indie project..that could definitely be developed remotely from their respective homes?? I seriously doubt any income from a smartphone STG that looks as bad as that will even bring in enough to cover their electricity bill for the project duration.
I mean, 4 ex cave guys, should surely be showing something that looks at least as good as the stuff they`ve worked on previously to at least create an impression to create a fanbase & create buzz, right? I had to laugh when I saw what it looked like as my expectations were nuked from orbit..
I can only assume :
They all got fired and couldn`t find any other work. Which would explain the dreadful art.
It`s some elaborate joke and they`re secretly producing something balls out awesome.
They are absolutely batshit mental , have zero business sense and will be living under a blue tarpaulin under a bridge soon.

Interesting quote from a programmer at work..
"Makes you wonder what the hell is going on at cave to make 4 staff members want to quit, set up on their own and make THAT"

It's obviously not because they don't have talent, it's because of what they think will sell. Games that look like that sell more than traditional pixel art shooters.
Do you think pleasing this forum means that will make a ton of money - no. They gave to appeal to the lowest base consumer to make any kind of profit. You can bet if they get any money behind them they will start making something "we" could get excited about, I'm sure of it. Tanaka is a genius.

Going through all this just to still be able to make a new STG is the exact opposite of selling their soul. Wtf are you saying.
Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Well, it's advertised as a student job after all (at least 2 days per week and 4 hours per day). Far from great terms (there are certainly some loopholes concerning the wage…) but it doesn't really sound like they're searching for a professional to exploit with that kind of position.trap15 wrote:lmao, it's really $8/hour. Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Yeah, I took it to mean something closer to an internship than an actual job, so while it's still scummy it's also not anything out of the ordinary.hien wrote:Well, it's advertised as a student job after all (at least 2 days per week and 4 hours per day). Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Why is it scummy? People do that stuff for free for other people developping doujins. At least you get paid here, and put something on your resume. Maybe I lack perspective but unpaid internships are common here.

Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Well typically doujin developers are doing it voluntarily and not for a living...
Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
This. For developing a doujin game you're doing it how you want, when you want, as long as you want. There are no deadlines, no pressure. You probably have a real job that takes priority, and you work on the doujin when you want to.Shepardus wrote:Well typically doujin developers are doing it voluntarily and not for a living...

Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
IOS is a huge, huge gamble nowadays, it`s so easy to be lost under a tide of thousands of games per week - to cover 4 peoples salary, bills etc, seriously a game like that ain`t gonna cover it.
My last ios game made with a team of 2, with me doing everything except program, got pretty decent coverage, great press, but we didn`t even recoup the marketing budget.
I know of ios titles from some of the biggest Japanese app devs that haven`t broken $100 in terms of income.
As a business plan, to build revenue for bigger and better things, (if that is the case) starting with a (very sub-par looking) IOS niche genre game plus overheads is , to put it politely, naiive, to put it bluntly, idiotic.
If they can`t afford an office with heating, I can`t see how they can afford a marketing budget to push it.. the whole venture seems so deluded it has to be some kind of ruse, I really hope it is, as I can`t believe 4 devs can think something like this is sustainable.

Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
Reminds me of this article from earlier this year. If you're managing to make a living as a mobile game developer chances are your strategy goes something like "make as many games as quickly as you can and hope some of them pay for all the rest." Kind of like how the F2P strategy is to reach as many people as possible so the few who shell out for microtransactions pay for the rest...

But it's Futari on iPad that made me love shmups and entered doors to this world.

Re: Ex-CAVE members reform as TANOSHIMASU Co., Ltd.
I think it's unrealistic to hope for that because the difficulty levels and bullet patterns of the games need to be made based around the controls, which the default is finger on screen being able to scroll around the screen extremely quickly. You would have to make a whole other mode (game) for normal arcade controls to make sense. Cave could do it with their old games that were originally arcade games but that isn't enough, I don't see it catching on for general new STGs., don't see it getting built.copy-paster wrote:Unless Apple/Google create an mobile arcade joystick for their iOS or Android, I'll adore it.Opus131 wrote:shmups on smartphones.
