Yeah, just noticed that myself. Unless you want to run. You may want to after you see the rest of your team's (presumably horrible) scores!

This is what happens when you use several names inconsistently. Please use one name for everything, I'm not smart enough to keep track of all this shit.

Would you still be able to fit in another free agent? I have some time to spare for fighting JPEGs.

If there's not enough room, I'd be willing to be moved over to a new team so we'd have two teams of two.

That can be done. I'll add you on the next score update and move Vanguard to that team. Thanks!

Now the demand for the next game has reached frothing levels.

Don't leave us hanging! I need something to be annoyed at!! I just spent 6 or so hours mastering one loop of Bakuretsu Breaker. Surely there is another poor use of my free time coming up???

Things that Bakuretsu Breaker has:

1) stupid-looking midbosses that can kill you
2) multiple fun and unique characters with different shot/bomb types
3) at least one unique subweapon (death by fireworks)

Things that Last Resort has

1) Bosses that couldn't kill you if their lives depended on it
2) one shot, one ship, futuristic street-sweeper
3) generic subweapons, one of which is beyond useless (blue pod)

Clear winner of the two weeks here:

Who could have predicted that Mad Shark actually sucks dick? For the love of God please start the new year off with a better game.

Bakuretsu Breaker is STILL the best game in the tournament so far.

Game has a god-like poker face. Starts off as a passable Raiden clone, then just turns into an amplification of everything that shits me about Raiden.

Mad Shark is ten times the memorizer Last Resort was. If you don't know in advance where those sniper tanks are going to spawn then you are already dead. I actually think it becomes fairly enjoyable from stage 5 on, where the sniper tanks lose their place of prominence and the focus shifts towards managing popcorn/heavy enemy combos, but not nearly enough to make up for the horrible first half.

I don't think I ever had a problem with sniper tanks other than maybe one or two enemies. The bullets are slow enough that simply moving around all the time dodges pretty much all the small enemies without even paying attention, and the homing missiles actually do a good job of showing you where the offscreen enemies are. Overall I actually find the stages (at least the first four, I haven't gotten to stage 5 and beyond much) mindnumbingly easy - the bosses give me far more trouble (specifically the stage 4 boss and for some reason the stage 2 boss too). Most of my problems outside the bosses come from not paying attention to enemies while staring at powerups waiting for them to turn to the right color, or having to chase the powerups to the top third of the screen.

The problem with sniper tanks isn't that they inherently break a game's difficulty progression, but rather that they are more frustrating, more infuriating a reason to die than stuff you missed but was coming forward as your brain conveniently expects when playing a vertical (awareness is directional too ^^)

The problem is when they spawn a tank near the bottom of the screen and you scroll over and they shoot the instant they're visible and if you're not already moving vertically then you die. There's a particularly egregious one about 10% of the way into stage 3 and they're all over stage 4. The homing missiles do help a lot though, they can even point out where an enemy outside the playing field is about to spawn.

What I dislike about Mad Shark is that the first four stages are overall easy and dull, but they are still able to destroy your run with a lightspeed bullet if your attention drifts or if you didn't memorize exactly where enemies are going to spawn. Last Resort had boring early stages too, but those couldn't kill you even if you did lose focus. The bosses in Mad Shark are the hardest parts of the game but I just skip them with bombs. Might as well since you can't really panic bomb.

Ha, yes. I was only joking when I said Last Resort was "memorizer" week because of the clear R-Type influence. More than either game previous you need to memorize just about every spawn of a tank (or tank boat), and do bosses blindfolded (or bombspam) because anything else results in death. Other shooters do this too, but other shooters usually have your ship move faster than a snail and have a hitbox smaller than a freighter.

I don't know about you guys but I can't stand the homing missiles in this game. It seems like they spend more time circling helicopters than hitting them. I doubt I'll have time to eke a clear today, given the holiday and that getting past the bosses on st.3 and 4 are such crapshoots without bombs. To say nothing of the BS-infused stage 7.

The stage 3 boss is actually really easy with laser. As long as you go into it with enough power and don't destroy the sides it's like a 10-second kill and you barely have to dodge anything. In fact, if you haven't been using laser for the whole game, you've been putting yourself at a disadvantage.

I honestly never felt like I had to memorize anything in this game except some large enemies and bosses. The first time I got to stage 4 I no-missed it blind until the boss. I'm starting to suspect I'm playing a different version of the game or something because none of the bullets are "lightspeed," they're far slower than Raiden bullets and even slow enough for me to see them and actively move out of the way (not that I need to pay attention to that since they're always aimed).

Tetris block is inferior for scoring anyway.
