So why is Ibara generally considered to be better than Kuro?
I've barely played either of them...

Ibara Kuro got made all pussified for the cave fans, remember when Ibara came out it was hated and the price took a real nosedive. It just wasn't like a normal cave game. Kuro is fun though, a lot of stuff going on and a real capability to score high. It just removed the balls hard fun that Ibara had. When you make progress in Ibara you feel like you are getting better, and that it was earned.

I don't really feel the same in Kuro, try playing the level 2 boss in ibara vs kuro, you'll know what I mean.

Thanks- I'm looking forward to trying these out.
I get the feeling Pink Sweets isn't particularly popular either...

Simple: Ibara has one of the best Cave announcers since the DonPachi co-pilot. (BOOMBAAA!!) Too manly for today's generation. They need a soft airplane-like little girl voice announcing everything. It was like the natural continuation of Garegga, Bakkraid and Batrider.

What was the story? Who cares. I don't know. The thing is you are in to blow the shit up everything using BOOOMBAAA and fierce firepower. And you explode releasing even more firepower. So it adds up to the awesomeness.

And, of course, it does not have nearly as many changing numbers and cancellation cascades as the other Cave games. Plain and simply: not enough moving numbers (is it necessary that each freaking item you collect in Futari or Deathsmiles starts counting from 0 just to add ONE fucking number to the counter? I find that overkill and distracting), autocollection, flashy cancellations with golden BIG numbers and such.

In short: it didn't cater to the number fetishists.

Are there any versions of MAME that makes Mushi run properly? Looks great, runs terribly.
Change the file name to mushisama and it runs perfect.
Perfect as in, absolutely no slowdown. Thanks though.

Well yeah they made it all cavelike, holding A slows you down and shows the cave dot-like hitbox, getting extra lives doesn't affect rank. etc. Get 5 lives in kuro it makes no difference just like.. ketsui for example. , try the same in Ibara and you're fucked.

In Ibara the music is very silent compared to the sfx. Is that an emulation thing or is it supposed to be like that.

Because "better" is totally quantifiable. All a matter of preference. Too much stupid discussion in this forum about what is better and what is not, when it all comes down to what someone likes in the end.

Yes, you can say that a game is made well and has overall solid mechanics, but whether it is seen as good or not comes down to if whoever plays it likes it.

Kernow:
Lol, no. Just saying that it comes down to preference.

Both Ibara and Ibara Kuro are solid games. I like them both (and such at both). But I would not say that either one of them is better. If you like Ibara more than it is better for you. If someone likes Ibara Kuro more it's better for them, is all.

Sure thing.

Yes, that's about right. Different people like different things.

It's the same as saying football is better than hockey. apples and oranges.

Ibara feels like Garrega 2 while Kuro feels like a cave game. I like Ibara more because its pretty much a cooler looking Garegga. I couldn't even look back at Garegga without wincing and wishing it looked as grittty and cool as Ibara.

I didn't think it was possible, but I think Garegga has been beaten in terms of art style and sound design (music is still debatable, both soundtracks are amazing).

Have you tried Kuro with the new scoring mechanic?

Ibaras music is its only downfall , garegga is god tier alongside ketsui. Playing pink sweets wow very pretty, cool sounding and hard as fuuu stage 4 is straight rape.

Err yes I've been borrowing it for a couple of months, beat your score also. But admittedly that was after the 3rd credit :P

And you know my score how? I don't even know my score.

It was a fair question, as I thought you'd given it a quick go in MAME.
