The upcoming version of an emulator that started as a dc/naomi emu but also with shitload of other stuff, seems like cave 3rd gen hardware is emulated as well now.

The developer is Russian I think, and in Russia, game emulates you.
Anyway, all the piracy laws are not valid there, meaning they're free to do whatever they want.
Seems legit, also the channel has a bunch of other videos from other 3rd gen cave games.
Anyway, I think it will take a long time until it's released.

Sorry, someone had to.

edit: still, I mean, holy shit so much happened in the last three months! We went from "Let's sit tight and wait for Ketsui 2015/2016+" to having it emulated along with DOJ and Espgaluda via Mame. Now this. And don't forget Arcana Heart 3 on PC. Damn.

There's a link to one of the videos at the bottom of this thread from the Russian demul forum so all this is probably real. http://forum.emu-russia.net/viewtopic.p ... 3&start=80

Is this shit real?

I's very hard to believe for me.

Did anyone could successful emulate some of these?

I think I've seen some images on Ibara and Espgaluda 2 on LucaElia WIP page

It's legit, it shouldn't really be any great surprise.

The hardware is a 'simple' (compared to 3D hardware) blitter being driven by an SH3, which is 100% compatible with the SH4 used by the Dreamcast.

Makes perfect sense that they emulated it, they already have the hard part done for the Dreamcast, the CPU core. It's not a difficult platform to emulate at all.

The sound ROMs aren't dumped on several games, and the sound chip is pretty complex (and not emulated) which is why there is no sound.

I mentioned before that your best chance of seeing these was in an emulator outside of MAME, most likely one of the DC / Naomi ones. The videos have been there a while too, the first ones were put up over a month ago.

Note, this has nothing to do with MAME, or Mamedev, but the guys who have done it have worked with us on Naomi stuff in the past, and I can confirm it's 100% genuine.

Took you guys a while to find this, huh? ;) I see that someone handed over the ESPGaluda II ROMs to CaH4e3...
IseeThings wrote:the sound chip is pretty complex (and not emulated) which is why there is no sound.
Yeah this part could be challenging in theory, especially if they're using a non-standard codebook for their encoding. Could get lucky though, given Yamaha's patent licensing in the relevant field...
Teufel_in_Blau wrote:But damn, poor CAVE... shit sux.
Well, as long as the code is closed for comfort, which games get emulated can be controlled. It's probably a bit too early for Deathsmiles, but whatever.

That's what I'm talking about. I for one welcome our new emulated overlords Mushihimesama and Ibara. Since the PS2 ports are already sold out and wasn't really good in terms of arcade accuracy. But for Espgaluda 2 and Deathsmiles it's just too early, especially if you consider the fact that you can get still both games for the 360.

Oh, wait, will this mean that someone could make a working driver for the Dreamcast to run these games?

The slowdown in that Mushihimesama video (which occurs once every half a second) is nauseating.

MAME Ketsui et al went from not working at all to having sound problems to running backwards to running almost perfectly in less than a month.

Can't rule it out (if "driver" is construed to include a virtualization monitor with the blitter interface emulated), but I wouldn't count on it being easy. I'd expect that the Cave code is big-endian, as is typical for SuperH systems (can anyone with inside info confirm/deny this?); Dreamcast is hardwired to little endian mode. I dreamed up a crazy solution to that problem (big-endian SuperH guest virtualized on little-endian SH-4 host) years ago, but I never tried it because for that project it probably would have amounted to tilting at windmills.
