I don't recommend doing that on the PS3 version. The PS3 version has a glitch that slows the game down when you have too big of a save.
And the PC version of Oblivion originally had a glitch that crashed the game when you quick saved :D

Really need to add here that I'm playing on the PS3 and am something like 90-100 hours in and have experienced only one glitch that kept me from completing a minor quest and some occasional hiccups here and there. Sure, I hit a little lag (reset and it went away) perhaps 3 or 4 times, and I saw a dragon fly into a mountain...and, that's it. I know everyone keeps talking about the glitches, but to be honest, I've seen more in every other Bethesda game, never mind RDR which had tons of glitches.

I'm not saying the glitches/bugs aren't there and real, but rather that your mileage may vary. Not everyone is experiencing these, and so while some people are saying this game is far too glitched and shouldn't have been released this way, my experience suggests the game is far more stable and less glitchy than FO3 & Oblivion. *shrugs*

I was going by what I read on Amazon. I found it odd that the PS3 version went from 4 1/2 stars to 3, especially since it sounded like the better version for awhile. That lag glitch seems to be why. Supposedly, there was a patch, but it supposely made some things worse. Also, don't get me wrong, I plan to get this for 360 (I actually had a hard time choosing which system to get, but I went for 360 since it has the Cave shmups) and I like what I played of Arena and Daggerfall so far. I plan to get Fallout 3 as well, especially since I heard it has parts based on Maryland in it. I also think it's cool that a company based out of MD is making games.

I'm on 360 myself and 60 hours in. I've on received minor glitches as well: guy chopping wood had wood stuck to him; characters say random stuff that they shouldn't; NPCs occasionally get stuck on things. I've pretty much had only minor stuff, really; yet, my co-worker is having a pretty horrible time with a large variety of glitches ranging from minor to fairly bad. Kinda weird how some people have way more problems than others.

I'm mildly interested in it. Although I'm kinda sick of hearing all the forced jokes that spawned from it. Also It's cool to see how bad ass the Argonians look now compared to their dorky Oblivion counter parts.

I was never interested at oblivion, even less when my friend demoed it.

I've watched few gameplay videos and admired the production values, but still I can't justify buying and playing this when I got so many other games to play at. It looks like a funny sandbox toy rather than a solid game.

I think this game has reached a tipping point where people buy it simply because everyone else did as well. Just to see what everyone was talking about. This, and the fact that games that don't really require any skill (but have loads of amazing things to ogle at) are traditionally very casual-friendly.

100hrs and I'm wondering around at this point and seemingly getting quite a few radiant quests. Its still nice to wonder but I'm thinking I'll just backup this save and make another character.

I didn't do the thieves guild because I was a hero type, but then I joined the dark brotherhood and had to kill a load of innocent people which I shouldn't have and feel really bad, almost as if I betrayed my character and his morals.

NOOOO!

Wondering what else to do at this point, maybe leave it for the DLC or just scrap the character and start another one in time for the DLC, it was just a generic warrior/mage type with a beard and heavy armour anyway. Full daedric stuff which made any fight pretty much pointless.

Any suggestions for more stuff to look at or do would be great, but I think it's probably the end for kernow the nord :(

Think I'll join the stormcloaks next time and be a light armour/robe wearing mage/thief/stealth type, hmm.

It's really hard to have any morals in Skyrim. Seriously. In past games you could be a thief or kill people who "deserved" it and not feel bad about it. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that everyone in the world of Skyrim is a piece of shit racist, bigot, or religious zealot. I always play as a thief character, but before I didn't really feel bad when I did thieves guild missions, mainly because they would be about stealing ancient treasures from some cult or stealing expensive brandy from some pompous yuppy. I started off "good", but now I pretty much do whatever I feel like without any repercussions to my moral standings or universal mores. My character just wanted to be a family man and this world changed him!!!!!!

Just a heads-up: recently they released a patch that fixes the absurd lag on the PS3 version. At points where the FPS would go down do 0, now it drops almost nothing. It's perfectly playable now.

So, is this worth picking up?

Definitely worth playing if you like open world RPGs, it is one of the most user friendly games of its kind and is highly entertaining if you like to wander around dungeon delving and causing mischief. It lacks the depth of content of Morrowind but easily trumps Oblivion in my opinion. I will be returning to it for years to come and it offers a lot of value for money. I haven't even finished two of the guild lines and I have a huge amount of stuff left unexplored and I have already hit 100 hours.

If you plan on just playing the main campaign then don't bother. It is about as compelling as any other Elder Scrolls plot, although there are some nice set pieces.

Don't mean that to sound patronising but I am not sure about your taste in non-shmups so I am trying to be objective.

I'm so happy that I got my main desktop rebuilt and I can play it now. Sooooooo much fun!

I kind of wish they had done the "favourite" equipment option a bit different. I can't remember if it was one of the other Elder Scrolls games or some other RPG I'm thinking of, but I prefer "sets" better, where you can set up all of your equipment (armour, and save it to a quick slot or whatever. Not very realistic of course, but it suits my play style better.

Agreed. It would be very useful if you have separate sets of equipment that you use for damage buffs, alchemy buffs, etc. Right now I usually neglect to change out of my crafting stuff when I go questing because I'm too lazy to flip through all the generically named Gold Rings to find which one I want for a particular purpose.

Oh man, that's a major spoiler about the Psijic Order at the end.

But otherwise, I think they are right. I only watched the game being played, but that definitely meshes with my opinion. Comparing progressions between the Mages Schools of the various titles is great too.

Y'know, I think that the next Elder Scrolls title I'll be playing is the Elder Scrolls Adventure: Redguard, from 1998 or so. If the games are getting worse as times go on, why not play the earlier ones instead?

Yeah, it should be known that Bethesda has released Arena and Daggerfall as freeware, though you'll need to wrangle with Dosbox to get them running. They're not great games, but it's interesting to see just how much of their ambition they were able to realize on limited hardware, and they can't be accused of Skyrim's many efforts to dumb down the mechanics in favor of lowest common denominators.

I lurked the official forums a bit and it seems the patch didn't fix things for everyone. Plus there are still a lot of bugs and random crashes (which will probably never get fixed at this rate) :?

I guess I'll just rent the game for a while. Might buy if I don't run into any issues.

My take on it; you can easily get 100 hours out of the game, which might make it an instant purchase for some. The 'problem' I found was that the smithing/enchanting angle just made my character too damn powerful. If I were to start a second run, I might consider completely ignoring these two branches just because they make the game feel very unbalanced after a while. They also both eliminate any reason to use companions (they just get in your way at that point.) I'd say my first 30 hours in the game were fantastic then started going downhill pretty quickly.

I might consider doing a mage run and avoid the above mentioned skills and rely heavily on found items and companions. I think what hurt this game most for me was it coming out a month after Dark Souls. Really hard to take Skyrim seriously when you have Dark Souls sitting there.

well I have over 200 hours in the game and for the last 3 weeks ive maybe put an hour or so into it, i have run into a few bugs the Skald bug in Dawnstar has still not been fixed so becoming a thane there is next to impossible so theres other reasons why I havent touched it in 3 weeks ive been playing other things but i went back and noticed they changed the ice spike spell it actually works properly in slowing down most enemies better now also the animation effect for the dual casting of it seems different too

Some of the mods feel like cheating to me. So far I'm only using the official HR texture pack and the Fixed Followers Lite.
The Mike Tyson vid had me cracking up. I didn't expect him to come out a winner against the giant- I deal with them Nuge style (fire damage bows are awesome), with maybe a Fus-ro-dah if they get too close. Frost trolls used to own me at Labyrinthian until I got dual-casting Destruction capability. DC firebolt on these guys is the shit. Now I just basically Hadoken them to death.

I've got 130-ish hours into it with a Lv 44 Nord, with a Sneak skill in the high 80s. I originally intended for my character to be a Battlemage type, but this seems to be going more toward Assassin now. I use heavy armor mostly, but have the muffled movement perk for that. So far I've finished the College of Winterhold and Companions quest lines, and am well into the main and Thieves Guild ones.

Shame there isn't some kind of search box for your potions and other items. There will be times when you want a healing potion and it would be nice to type "HEAL" and get a filtered list showing your healing potions. I like how you can map favorites to the number keys to call them up immediately similar to Heretic/Hexen.

The value for money is definitely good. Instead of a cost per hour of $7-10+ it's more like 30-50 cents an hour. You may see it all in 8 hours with some FPS like Call of Duty, but in Skyrim 8 hours is just the beginning.

After the Thieves' Guild questline is over, I may do the Civil War one for the Imperial side.

One time I got trapped in a corner by a damn pot and had to reload. It was in some burial place where you find lots of Draugr. Pots are evil.
And here someone gets KILLED by a pot, in an inn with no hostile NPCs. Actually it's a kettle but anyway... Told ya.

Joined the Thieve's Guild just to take some random jobs, but so far it seems like a good path to take. You get some sweet gear almost from the get-go and access to good trainers.

I think it's a bit odd how you can just join whatever Guild / faction you want and do quests for them, and no one seems to care. It made a lot more sense in Fallout NV where you had to choose one or the other or risk burning your bridges.

Excellent little game so far, I'm 10 hours or so in. I made a mage, joined their guild and it's pretty nice.

Reminds me fo what I liked about Fallout and playing as a mage I don't have to try to melee ennemies, qhich I always felt felt clunky in Oblivion.
