So how to do people rate MMP in terms of difficulty?

Let's just talk about first loop, playing for survival. No clever rank management (ie: a new player trying to score by killing everything and collecting lard when it won't get them killed)

Seems fairly hard to me. Credit fed to the later stages and then sat in the corner and cried for a bit.

Muchi Muchi Pork (1.01) was one of my quicker Cave clears. It's not an easy game, but if you're scoring well you're constantly getting more and more lives (you get an extend every 10 million), so it's easy to recover if you make a bunch of stupid mistakes. The bosses can be pretty rough (especially stage 4), but I'd still say it's about as difficult as Futari 1.5 Original.

I agree with Iconoclast, MMP 1.01 didn't take me much more than a handfull of tries to 1CC. Stage 4 is probably the most difficult stage and boss. 1.00 is much more difficult, I haven't even broke the surface of it.

I still have issues with MMP stage 2 boss :/ Makes me feel like a chump every time. I should probably sit down and focus on that game more.

Trying to milk the stage 1 boss ruins me on time, every time.

I don't know why I even try that business sometimes. It just goes so well until it doesn't go well at all. Then it goes badly.

Are you playing 1.0 or 1.01? 1.0 is stricter with the lard meter, but should still be very doable if you play it safe and dont milk bosses. I would say that 1.0 is maybe slightly harder than Mushi Futari 1.5 to clear, with 1.01 being a bit easier than Futari.

Survival and scoring go hand in hand with this game, so if you score effectively you`ll have plenty of lives. I usually finish the first loop of 1.01 with at least 4, sometimes 5 lives. One key to survival, especially in the loop, is constant bombing. You only need to pick up one bomb chip to give momentary invincibility so use that time to jump to the next bomb chip. This technique is most obvious in the beginning of stage 2-5 with those laser turrets.

Re: the stage 2 boss, he`s the worst in the game for scoring so I dont worry about him too much. I often flub up his final attack but it isnt worth a ton anyways.

I'm playing 1.01 but I think I must be playing a different game to other people.

I think futari 1.5 is pretty ridiculous but MMP is something else. Some of the stuff I saw at the end of the game was categorically unavoidable (unless by scoring you end up with about 30 bombs to use or something).

As for the scoring.... 6.5 million when I die on stage 3 :|

Everything I've seen in the first loop of Muchi Muchi Pork looks like it could be no miss no bombed. And to loop on version 1.00, you have to no miss the first loop. I'd definitely like to see a no miss first loop on 1.00, but I could never find vids of it.

I'm pretty bad at mmp, but I can still extend on stage 2 without any boss milking.

just get those snouts up to max by stage 1 boss, and score heavy on stage 2. The water towers are perfectly spaced so you always have lard to use

I recently got these games. I decided to be manly and play MMP 1.00 but I've been struggling to consistently get to stage 3, and even then it kicks my arse. It's difficult to adjust to the hitbox size - I keep ramming into enemies and going into the sides of bullets. It's the first Yagawa game I've ever really played and I feel like I'm missing something. I am enjoying it but I think it's yet to click properly. I might give 1.01 a go to see if I can boost my confidence with a 1CC.

I don't understand how it works.

Once I scored 1.8M after stage 1, then the next time it was 800k and I didn't do anything different.

How do you make the lard-generated pickups get bigger?. Sometimes they just do and other times they stay small.

Yea, you're definitely doing something wrong with the scoring. I'd suggest watching a superplay to see how it all works. Basically, every time you pick up a medal they increase in value to a max of 10k, but they decrease in value when you let one drop off the screen. So try not to do that.

Here are my approximate scores at the end of each stage in 1.01 (I think, been a while since I played):

Stage 1: 24 million
Stage 2: 50 million
Stage 3: 82 million
Stage 4: 130 million
Stage 5: 185 million

And please don't start with the "impossible to dodge" stuff again.

Basically, once you collect all snouts of one point value, the next ones to appear at a higher value

So, if you only make 1.100 snout appear and collect it, the next will be 200. If you keep making more snouts while a 100 is on screen, those will also be 100s

If you miss a snout, the value is cut to 1/10

If you are holding shot and want to collect snouts, just switch to laser very shortly and back, and you will collect them all.

So, small kill/collect combos until the snouts are maxed, then spawn as many at once as you want

Hope none of this is wrong, I'm still a newbie

No you got it. Your first task when starting stage 1 is getting the medal value up as quickly as possible, so dont reveal too many medals at one time, make sure its all short bursts. Its possible to get up to 10k by the time you get to the trains, but I`ve only done that a couple of times. I dont usually get 10k until just after the trains when you get to the mid-sized tank.

OK, odd as that seems I see how it works now. Can't say I agree on the difficulty though.

2nd boss on MMP doesn't seem much easier than the final boss on futari.

It's the other way around; Futari's 2nd boss is quite simple, MMP's is kind of tricky.

Also, killing enemies with your B button attack when your lard gauge is empty creates more lard-giving pigs than if you kill them with your shot. Just remember to hit A before collecting them.

Has anyone got some suggestions for appropriate power-up levels to use for each stage during practice mode? By which I mean levels which are comparable to where you'd be on a normal playthrough.

I'm usually at max power by end of stage 1, although every now and then, if I haven't died/suicided, I might only be at the 2nd power up.

I'd say, for practicing any stage past stage 1, full power makes sense.

I definitely think this is much much harder than futari 1.5, and even harder than galuda 2.

Thats the best part :D

Its also quite different from those games too. I think you'll get used to it as you play more

I was travelling with my 360 last weekend and tossed this in for a bit. At home I use a rotated TV for 3:4, so this was the first time I've played it on a regular unrotated HDTV.

OMG these games have rank bars! I never know those existed. lol

... So, anyone know how to quickly crank up the rank in Pink Sweets Arrange? Using the Rose Cracker a ton doesn't seem to have the same effect as in arcade mode, nor does collecting lots of items.

I don't know too much on that, but I think I recall Dave K. mentioning that using the rose cracker might actually decrease your rank.

I could totally be wrong on that though. Plus, I play with rank bars off. I'm no arcade purist, but that seems like something you wouldn't have any kind of access to in the original game.
