First of all i'm lucky to make it to the jump and even when i got as far as having the AI Droid I'm jumping and whizzing around the tunnel like an idiot but i always get tagged eventually.
Any tips ??
Old Tempest 2000 tips still apply. Always jump when you see a Fryer. Concentrate on being out of the way of the bullets.
T2k, not sure if the AI Droid mechanics changed: Try to stay away from your AI Droid, as it will try to move toward you, this guarantees that you'll be covering about half the web and it will be covering half the web.

I got stuck there two. Ended up going back a few stages in classic, starting at about 33, and getting back to 38 with more lives. Classic mode always gives you the number of lives on the starting level you choose equivalent to the highest number of lives you've ever had on reaching that level (in any mode, I believe).
Other than that, some reassurance. After 38 the game seemed (to me at least) to get somewhat easier for about 10 levels.
I got to 92 in pure mode, currently 7th on leaderboard with 5536605.
This game is unfortunately too long for my tastes so I'm not sure how much more of it I'll play.
Also, I take back what I said about the ox enemies being the worst. Those invincible machine gun enemies starting at 89 sent my life counter straight from 10 down to 0.

That actually sounds like how TxK handles it too.
also, I think I'm starting to hate those oxen -- haven't been playing too much lately so I fired it up, on stage 37 in Classic, fuck those horns
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

In T2K the horns actually moved at the same speed of the bullets enemies shot, so they were INSANELY easy to dodge.
went back and familiarized myself with how horrible 2000 is. still want a nuon and a vita, but here's hoping i can get a pc that can run it soon. pretty sure this is the point where i'm a masochist.
you don't get points for destroying things while jumping, that's great... but can you still farm spikes forever? also, is it still completely impossible to see anything at any given time, and is the entire powerup system still horrifically unbalanced?
edit: txk has revealed itself to be one of the best games in the entire genre

i'm pretty sure it's impossible to 1cc solo tempest plus because of that alone. i really want to see high level play of something in 2000
2000 is actually a super casual game, made up of a few nice ideas and a whole lot of broken. it's probably liked precisely because playing games seriously was considered "outdated" then, and the bandwagon built up from there
edit: it's a real shame that's just boring old bcass flamebait (despatche-targeted at that)... though you still don't know what "fun" means anyway
edit2: tempest plus might not be as bad as i thought, but i don't think you can 1cc it anyway, it loops forever

Haha, thanks spadgy but you're giving me more credit than I deserve.
Sadly it happens rarely these days that I can dedicate myself to a game like I used to do some years ago.
