Where in the world is Mesh Control?

Post by Skykid »

Poster since 2009, currently missing in action. Looks like this:

In all seriousness, just realised he dropped of the map all of a sudden. He was one of the more entertaining characters here - even if his posting style was rather unique. I liked that dude.

If anyone's seen him, tell him to come back.

I have actually been thinking about posting a thread like this for a while. I'm worried he finally went and killed himself. He totally dropped off the board rather suddenly.

I certainly hope not, especially because it seemed as though most of his issues were boredom or girl related.

Please post and at least let us know you're OK mesh.

He hasn't even logged in since May 2013. I do hope he's OK.

But people leave for plenty of reason not to worry about. I actually read through a 2007 thread last night. I noticed how many once regular posters have moved on. Who are these people that aren't lifers?! :)

Come back to us Mesh Control! PaCrappa made a return this week, so it can happen (you better stay around PaCrappa!).

I sincerely hope you are right spadgy. Hopefully he finally realized the changes he needed to make to be happy and made them.

Oh yeah. There was that. But he's not banned. Maybe he just tired of the place after that incident. At least that's better than something horrible happening.

But his account doesn't note that he is banned at this point, perhaps system11 can confirm?

I'm gonna PM him on the off chance he gets the email saying he has a PM here

I'm buddies with him in other realms of the internet land, and I know Cmoon (I think) has hung out with him in the past. It's been a few months, but he deactivated his Facebook account as well. Last I remember, he moved and went to school, then promptly deleted everything.

I remember either Ghegs or system11 saying that sometimes they ban people without adding the 'Banned User' tag to avoid follow-up threads about the ban. And considering how pissed off system11 was at the time, I assumed he followed through with his threat.

RIP mesh control. I'm eternally grateful for the gift he sent me a couple years ago.

Always assumed he did what he kept saying he was going todo. Which would have been unfortunate.

This. I went hiking with him once in the Sierras; a really great time! He seemed very excited about school but these other problems kept looming. Yeah, and then he deleted everything. I'm going to assume he didn't do something horrible and is just off clearing his head. Honestly, nobody really needs the internet--maybe he's happier without it.

Yeah; I can at least sympathise with the idea of getting rid of it all and being free of the internet for a while. That said, this place is the one corner of the internet I could never imagine leaving behind!

Sometimes people drop all of their interests to focus on something important, often its not by choice (e.g. health, studies). They may still be on the net, just not around the usual places. Threads like this usually remind them to pop by and say hello. Anyway, I hope he's well.

his facebook is gone, yeah. he was apparently tired of posing on here so he got himself banned. i didn't hear much from him afterwards but i think he was dealing with depression and the internet wasn't helping

he was sort of an asshole but ultimately a decent guy

Well, I haven't been posting much lately...

But that's mainly because of my son, born last november, his siste, born 2 years ago, and the oculus rift dev-kit, all eating what little of spare time I have at the moment. But I do keep lurking, I've become quite fond of this place over the last years. :)

If it was the case that he felt he had to be banned to stop posting, that's a shame, but I can at least sympathise with the impact of depression on a person's behaviour (if that was what was going on). I'm very lucky never to have experienced it myself, but those closest to me have a lot (hell; my parent's met and fell in love when my mum was a nurse and my dad a patient in a mental health institution (I get the impression that's why she didn't stay in that job!); it was always going to be part of my family), so I appreciate to a degree it can influence a person's behaviour, and that may explain the decent guy posting less-than decent things. It's a situation to try and be patient and understanding with.

At least things like a Facebook page vanishing suggest a proactive departure from the internet. A still existing but dormant account may be more suggestive of a more unpleasant reason to not be posting anymore.

And if depression is the case, I hope he has people who care to talk to. That can be a huge help.

I wish more people tried to make even half this effort when judging others.

Was that directed to me?

If so, I'm sure I can be judgemental about some people myself. I'd rather of not had loved ones suffer depression, but at least the experience has taught me to be patient and try to be understanding with it.

Here in the UK right now there's a bit of a 'publicity' drive to make people more open with talking about mental health issues, be they a sufferer or the friend of a sufferer. The one thing I've really learned is often it's not about listening with a view too offering solution-focused advice; sometimes it's just about listening, being a sounding board, making a cup of tea (the cure to most things in the UK) and persistently reassuring them that it will be OK and that you are on their side and will keep listening. That, and offering a bit of boringly logical perspective when somebody is thinking they are nothing but useless and worthless.

Having gone through some extremely dark times of my own, I can confirm that this is absolutely the best medicine. Even well-meaning (and even mild) advice can sound like harsh criticism to those who are already in a spiral of self-indictment, although I credit myself for never having lashed out at anyone else. There is something to be said, however, for a swift kick in the ass, if timed properly. I was lucky enough to benefit from well-timed tough love.

I've also put in some time on the care-taking side, and that can be almost as brutal. Yeah, I guess that's all that needs to be said about that.
