Yeah... I turned on my 3DS for the first time since... forever, and found that the offer isn't applicable to UK.

On a side note: looking to either buy Zelda: ALBW or The Last of Us as my next gaming purchase. Will decide on Monday if I'll buy either of them - especially given that February has the following games coming out:
Ys Memories of Celceta
Castlevania LoS2
Resident Evil 4 HD
Sony Vita: More Lives Than A Cat!!!

Should've been available on DSiWare too. Ugly 2DS/3DS scaling... no thanks.

Edit: I am of course assuming this is not a new port.

OOH fantastic game! Per usual play: headphones and in the dark if you can. Hopefully the multiplayer is still populated, I should pop this back in for a bit.

Glad you are enjoying your 3DS :)

Picked up the "full" version of Bravely Default yesterday and got a few hours in since, here are some additional thoughts for anyone interested:

- Now that I've been to a few more places I find myself digging the art style quite a bit - the only thing that bugs me is the weird way characters' mouths are rendered when they talk. I also ended up keeping the 3D slider off, as I prefer the cleaner lines to the 3D effects in this case.

- Characters talk in a slightly archaic style (i.e. "I'll not" instead of "I won't"), which takes a bit of getting used to...English voice acting so far is no better than mediocre, though you can change the language if you prefer.

- The one town I've been in so far is considerably smaller than it looks - there are only three screens total to it, and the only places you can otherwise "interact" with are the shops. This could be either a positive or a negative, since there are a handful of hidden items to sniff out, and if you'd rather not spend too much time combing through countless corners you'll like this, but it also means less exploration and a less lively atmosphere.

- Playing with pretty much everything on default settings the challenge so far isn't too bad, though if you're not careful you can get blindsided - money and job points seem to be getting doled out somewhat slowly, though the post-battle bonuses help a little bit. A couple of abilities (most notably weapon-type-specific special attacks) not seen in the demo are here, though I've yet to do very much with them.

- A short ways in you gain access to the game's encyclopedia, which covers just about everything from monsters to items to characters to locations, and so forth - there's a lot of stuff in there, the translation team for this definitely had their work cut out for them.

- In case you needed to hear it, most job skills are learned in a different order here than they were in the demo. Speaking of which, after defeating the first pair of bosses who grant you a new job class, I figured they'd be the sort of villains who you beat up a half dozen times before the game is over and keep escaping each time: I was rather surprised to see that, when I looked them up in the encyclopedia, they were listed as having been killed by me outright. No idea if they'll end up making a surprise reappearance at some point, but this shift in tone from an otherwise relatively standard JRPG progression caught me off guard a bit.

- As was noted earlier on, even though I'm not near anyone else who plays the game you can still connect to the internet and have random "guests" offer more helpers to rebuild the village and pop in for extra attacks (which I haven't tooled around with yet) - I also received a couple of the lower-level "guest" bosses from 4HoL in the process, though I haven't crossed swords with them yet. Do wish I could "abilink" and learn some stuff faster, though. Also, this game doesn't want you to turn it off, ever: leaving the 3DS in sleep mode not only lets construction continue, but gradually earns you limited special attacks (which you can also buy with real-life money, though I doubt many will bother).

- I snagged the "collector's edition," which IIRC includes everything the EU version did except the figurine (which, from what I've seen of it, isn't a huge loss). The outer box is cardboard, but looks nice: the music CD is 10 tracks and 35 minutes long, the artbook is 60-some-odd pages, and a pack of 34 AR cards are included (though I think you can also print at least some of them off the game's page). I messed with a few of them, the first time I've bothered since buying the system: kind of neat, I guess, but often seemed kinda wobbly/spasm-y to me, and the viewing angle was sometimes odd...maybe I'm not doing 'em right. Anyways, not too bad a deal for the extra 15 bucks or so.

So far still pretty good, messing around with the Brave/Default system is fun, and while the characters aren't anything too distinctive a couple of exchanges (some of which happen via "skits" stolen straight out of the Tales series) got a chuckle out of me. Reviews say the last part of the game becomes something of a drag, but so far no "major" issues to report, at least if you're something of a "classic" JRPG fan.

So after the recent Nintendo Direct, I stuck my 3DS XL up for sale as none of the forthcoming games appealed to me.

The only problem is that some people have offered to buy my (barely used) 3DS XL with Mario Kart and 3D Land installed for £160. And only now am I really in the mood for Zelda, which means that I don't really want to sell my 3DS XL.

Might just take my 3DS off sale. At least until I buy/complete Zelda...

I thought the Direct looked good for 3DS, myself. Firm dates were announced for Mario Golf and Kirby Triple Deluxe. Even Yoshi's New Island looks better after seeing more footage (transformations look fun and wings from Super Mario World are back!). Mario Golf sounds especially promising with RPG elements and Mii integration confirmed.

Oh hey, 3DS thread.

Finally got me a copy of Zelda off of eBay - won it without realising. I was totally drunk last night and forgot all about it, woke up this morning to someone demanding money.

But it's all good, my Vita has had a lot of attention recently and I'm desperate for ALBW (and really hope it's much, much better than everything Zelda that came out on the DS... and Gamecube.)

Unfortunately it's got to come from the UK, so I'll be waiting a while.

On other things, has anyone played the new Phoenix Wright game on 3DS? I still haven't got around to the third DS game, which I hear is meant to be the best one, and as soon as I saw the 3DS one replaced the art with 3D models I feared the worst - but the demo is actually quite good. It allows for a lot more in the way of visual motion and animation in and around the courtroom, and the zaniness of the characters is intact.

Anyone play through it yet, and how does it rate against others in the series?

I've played through it. Only previous experience with the series was doing the first two or so chapters of the first game though, so I'm probably not the best to judge it comparatively.

I did really enjoy it though, and I'd definitely give it a recommend.

Isn't Wind Waker supposed to be awesome? I agree that the DS Zelda games sucked. Tried so hard to like them. Currently trying very hard to like Majora's Mask, seems like one of those games you need to have played when you were a kid to get the full nostalgia effect.

I was dead excited about Phoenix Wright 5, but isn't it download only? I should just get over it like I did with Crimson Shroud but urgh, download only :(

Yes AA3 is probably the best Phoenix Wright game, but 2 is my favourite, if only for that amazing final case.

I've marathoned it in two days, and AA5 is pretty great, IMO! The DLC case was worth the money too. As far as the 3D models go, I think the transition went pretty well. I personally think it did justice to a series that has been long time pixel art sprites. One of my gripes with it is that you can't examine every nook and cranny for amusing dialog, like you could in the previous games. Though, with the engine built and done now, maybe this will be remedied in AA6. :) Another gripe is that there is a bit of hand-holding, as far as what to present is. They slap your face with hints, even with the most obvious things.

As for how I feel it rates against the rest (without counting the Edgeworth games), I would probably go: 2 > 1 = 3 > 5 > 4. (I still like 4 a lot though, so maybe the bar is a little low for me. :P).

EDIT: MX7's post is exactly why I rate 2 so high, despite 3 being the overall better game, haha.

Agreed on the dark and headphones, although if I am honest I am having trouble getting into it. I suck at modern games, particularly dual stick style FPS type things, and this is the first RE game I've ever actually played. I'm only just starting the 2nd episode in the story mode, but I didn't realize what I was supposed to be doing and wasted my grenade things right away and now I'm just getting owned left, right and center. Might have to suck it up and re-start the game on casual difficulty, because I am enjoying the theme and style of the game but I'm getting frustrated with the constant deaths. I'd be quite happy to just walk through it on an easier setting for the story and visuals.

Super Hang On is also getting lots of play, working on beating the normal course now, but it gets tougher much quicker than the beginner course.

They had better release Outrun for this eventually!! And I'd really like to see AfterBurner II brought over to this side of the ocean as well.

All in all, pretty impressed with the system overall; kind of bought it on a whim and it's the first new console I have bought in years so glad I'm at least playing it.
