After watching this scene I was left wondering what the hell is up with this show.
I have yet to see the film - so I shall not click :)

Yamato 2199 is brilliant in every way; plot, music, art, both drawn and CG (and their combination).

Watching Last Exile and I think I'm just going to keep watching this upstairs regardless if I'm the only one awake or not. That english dub is horrible, but the blu-ray player loves to default to it. Anyways, 3 episodes in and I'm liking the CG and animation. Does get better?

I've rented this from the library, and it has the Japanese audio track as well, but on the Blu-Ray player downstairs no matter how you set it up, if you exit back to a menu it will seem to forget you wanted Japanese and english subs. But I am really loving this, so I know I will be bringing this to my sister's and probably marathon through most of it. Though is it standard for Anime releases here in the USA to be one long thing and not chopped up even when you just want to watch a single episode? It will just go ahead and play the next episode instead of going back to the menu. That's how this Anime Classics lineup release is done.

After that if you want something in the same league try Xam'd: Lost Memories (Bounen no Xamdou).

For more epic adventures but in 'space opera' flavour there's also Toward the Terra (Terra-e) and Heroic Age.

We don't see quality anime like those anymore. Sad.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will be sure to check them out after I get through this series, which I had a hard time turning off and doing house cleaning last night.

I, too, will vouch for Meguca Meduka. It confused me very much at the start since I'm so used to my self-administered abuse; "wait what is this..... a goodcartoon.gif???"

In the grimdark world of magical garment girls, there is only grimdark.

I love how the battle scenes, brief though they be, try to be arty and make the average actionmu look shabby in comparison. Also: theme songs for everybody. If there's a magic girl animu out there with more decapitations than this one (and at at least one decapitation per episode, it's quite a big number) I need to know about it pronto.

Also got around to watching this new and exciting series known as "Neon Genesis Evangelion". It was very 80's and I enjoyed the elevator music used in the credits very much. The last couple episodes are a crime against humanity tho - it's neat to see what a literal $0 budget gets you in animation. Fun really does cost money, neh.

The Haruhi gaiden series coming up, I'm feeling tepid on. The paranormal themes are very important to me, as is Kyon's internal monologue. Because.

Being Kyon is suffering.

The ending is glorious. "Let's cram three years worth of the story into one episode because there's no way we're getting a second season." Glorious car wrecks are glorious.

Eva was enjoyable. And until the very last episode, I was pretty happy with it.
[and my dumb ass hasn't seen any of the movies, I should probably do that so I can have some sort of ending]

and yeah, Daimao sure as hell wasn't getting continued, I'm just bothered that there was filler in a damn 12 episode anime that they still needed to rush through like hell, blah

I started watching Samurai Flamenco based on a friend's random recommendation. Saw the first episode, had a few giggles. Our hero is distressingly moe~ for a guy however old he is, fuck. I'll probably keep watching.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

I'm reading the Pluto manga (as suggested in the other manga thread), and only after finishing the first volume I realized the story takes place in the Astroboy universe. I mean, the synopsis stated that it's based on Tetsuwan Atom, but I didn't know that was the original name of Astroboy.

Turns out all the important characters shown in the manga are from the original series. I like how they all go through a complete makeover and became something you could see in real life. Take North#2 for example, who originally looked like this:

And now look like this:

Pretty cool to take what's essentially a story for kids and turn it into a serious, mature plot. So far it's very good.

Xam'd was an awesome anime. Just finished it. The ending was kinda sad, though. Not completely sad, but it sucks that Yango (I think thats his name) has this one good thing happen in his life, and gets it taken away in the end. He's gonna spend the rest of his life clinging to that dome.

This is the first Urasawa work I have read, and it attracted me to reading Monster (and watching the TV series).
Incredible stuff, especially his writing style of showing many viewpoints making up a single storyline.

In case it was missed: The entire plot of Monster revolves around a popular Astro Boy* story arc titled "Strongest Robot in the World".
Though similar, all incarnations of this plot arc have something unique to it. Pluto is no exception and is arguably the biggest expansion of them all.

* Tezuka Pro has referenced both Japanese and English names in their work, so either name should be fair game.

I recommend a marathon of Death and Rebirth ,ep. 26 of the series (adding ep. 25, and even ep. 24, if you have time), and The End of Evangelion.

I have to say, when 'Komm, Sosser Tud' comes in in End Of Eva is one of my favourite audio visual moments in any anime I've seen so far.

Umm, why?

Death and Rebirth was completely pointless. It was literally a clip show episode ("Death") combined with the first thirty minutes of EoE (Rebirth), there was no new content whatsoever and it doesn't help clarify or explain anything.

Personally, I was satisfied with the ending of the TV series, and honestly felt the movies made it worse.

Or indeed any film full stop! It's almost a shame End of Eva has to be viewed as a conclusion to Evangelion, because it's really one of the most bitter and hateful and wonderful conclusions to anything ever. I love the counterpoint of the grotesque imagery with the syruppy ballad, even more so when you realise the lyrics are a suicide note from the only person who can save the universe... So, watched the first three episodes of Mobile Suit Gundam...

honestly, I'm kinda bored by it.

Been going thru Sailor Moon again too. Now I'm at the Doom Tree arc (which I assume lays a seed that bears the Quake Tree)

:O

First episode of 0079 is brilliant, or is it maybe that you knew of so much stuff which was influenced by it that it had not much effect on you? For me when I first watched it literally all I had aseen before was Evangelion.

it really really got to me when I watched it first time, then when I read the lyrics I was like :o.

Yowamushi Pedal I guess took time off, and it seems they must of used it to create new intro and outros. At least that annoying tune they were using for the intro credits is replaced. Though both are replaced with tunes from the band Dirty Old Men. Can't wait to see what is in store tonight for episode 13 viewing. Last Exile is also ongoing, and I can't seem to turn that off.

Watched an Anime called "Another" (and it's OVA) all in one sitting. It was really good.

Started plowing through Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory.

I quite like - was a while since I saw some Gundam, and I've missed out too much this classic franchise.

Edit:
Also, the way the Gundams look & move (and sort of general aesthetics overall) reminds me a little of 8th MS Team, which is another Gundam I really like. So points for that.

Gato is badass. The art is very nice, I also think it's one of the more tightly paced of all UC Gundam series (ok OVA).

Now I'm watching Fantastic Children. Great for people who love being confused, and creepy albino children with supernatural powers.

I just finished Wolf Children.

The story of a mother having to protect the world from her half human, half wolf children.

I thought it was an amazing portrayal of what it means to be a mother, with a hint of fiction thrown in with consideration of having to conceal the wolf side of her children from the world.

Okay, Gundam is starting to pick up. I guess the TV Series just starts slow or else it was because I remembered the earlier events from the movies (I used to have VHSes).

Also watching Hajime no Ippo and Sailor Moon R, both good.

cool stuff - Garma Zabi episode is epic, especially Char's little chuckle to himself.

I'm actually reading the 0079/Mobile Suit Gundam novel at the moment, it is very interesting, confirms Char is a sleazy perv too :s.

I'm gonna deffo watch Hajime No Ippo, I'm just waiting for the Ashita No Joe fansub to finish first (which should be very soon), and then I'll watch it :).
