Why are so many taking delight in the "LOL 2DS" drum?

Will it still be hilarious when it out sales the Vita?

Maybe Sony will respond by releasing an updated version of the Vita with one of their big selling points removed - perhaps removing the screen... or the games? (there's a joke in there you can have for free! ;) )

Amazon are doing a 3 for £20 deal atm.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html ... 1000770403

Thinking of picking up Starfox, Resi, and Rhythm Thief.

But then I think that my money would probably be best served picking up The Last of Us - which is also £20 atm.

Edit: just don't want to be wasting my money on filler atm.

So I was playing Mario Kart last night. Great game btw, if not for a few issues:

1. Online mode is completely broken. You have to exit the game in order to exit online. Wtf?

2. You can't send custom messages. Political correctness gone bananas. Complete bs imho.

3. Setting up a game with a friend is a complete nightmare. First of all, you have to "join" your friend (which doesn't even work most of the time), and then if you want to verse other people as well (so as to have a bigger lobby), you need to find a community (which Nintendo don't tell you about). You actually need to be "drafted in" by having a code for the community. Wtf?

I'm sorry, but for a game where its main draw is multiplayer, Nintendo really fail so bad. If I didn't like the franchise so much, I would have (objectively) slagged off this game even further.

Trust Nintendo to always fuck something up in the final yard stretch.

Can't stand how Nintendo fans try to find excuses for the company's failings. If the console/game isn't doing too well, they'd argue that this is because Nintendo is a toy company and follows its own path. So that's justifiable is it? Why can't this view be applied to Sony or MS - both of which also have kiddie friendly titles.

Tales of Abyss is going to be bought at one point.
Starfox is also going to be bought.
I've heard good things about Code of Princess, but assume it's only worth getting if you have not other systems.
I consider RE: Revelations to be more filler for the system library.
SMT IV isn't out here in UK.
Never found the Wii version of Paper Mario to be fun. Not sure how I feel about the 3DS version.
Luigi's Mansion will be bought.
Project X Zone looks really interesting.
Kid Icarus needs to be bought.
Zelda: OoT needs to be bought.
I keep hearing about Fire Emblem, but the sad thing is that I'm not really into SRPGs.

So that's 5 essential titles for me. And I already have Mario Kart and Mario 3D Land.

Thanks for the recommendations.

New 3DS update, highlights:
The previous limit of five system transfers per system has been removed
Having gone through 5 PSPs, that ridicolous limit was a huge problem to me.
Changed the start-up method of Nintendo 3DS Camera from the HOME Menu:

Pressing the L and R Buttons simultaneously will now start the Nintendo 3DS Camera from the HOME Menu
No more accidentally activating the camera all the time.

There's also the Miiverse and NNID stuff (which I think means you can share account balance between 3DS and Wii U).

Edit: apparently Miiverse support means screenshot support which is nice.

Download the demos for Project X and Fire Emblem. I didn't like Project X - it's pretty, and pretty boring. FE on the other hand, which isn't completely dissimilar in game style, seems rather good to me (and I don't really go for srpgs either.)

My list of system requirements would be:

OoT - relive it
Super Mario 3D Land - gawp at how good games can be in 2013
Luigi's Mansion 2 - everyone tells me it's great
LoZ Link Between Worlds - no brainer

Everything else subjective really. Kid Icarus is a hard recommendation: it's one of the greatest flawed games I've played, in that it will never meet its potential until someone hacks the control system or emulates it on a console with a workable setup.

I enjoyed Mario Kart enough to completely rinse it, but it was slightly below my expectations. Oh, and RE: Revelations is surprisingly decent.

Many of these exist as demos, and the 3DS has one feature I wish the Vita had: downloading in sleep mode. You can go to bed and wake up in the morning to a whole bunch of nice packages, and it has a larger built in storage capacity too.

Uh? If you're downloading games on a Vita, it will continue in sleep mode. If yours isn't, turn off wifi power saving.

You can't set it to ONLY download in sleep mode though.

Edit: Project X Zone is generally considered a slow boring grind. Unless you like absolutely every sRPG you play, stay away. Fire Emblem is definitely a higher priority.

Already have 3D Land.

Those three other games you recommend are definitely on the list.

I would put Bravely Default on there too, if not for the fact that I can buy about 6 RPGs for my PSP via US PSN. Trails in the Sky (PSP) - which is meant to be all sorts of amazing - is also a higher priority.

PSP: the system that keeps on delivering.

For whatever it is worth, I ordered the XL version of the circle pad pro...mostly for Monster Hunter, but eyeing that Resident Evil. Replayme has it right that there are a lot of things to gripe about regarding the 3DS from region locking to lousy controls. Thing is, I've always wanted to give monster hunter a chance, so here I am pining for a second analog so I can control the camera. Will report out when the damn thing shows up.

I bought Monster Hunter on the cheap for my PSP. It's still sitting there on the shelf. I haven't even fired it up to see if the UMD works... This, after owning it for many months.

As for my 3DS... Yeah, that's collecting dust in favour of my PSP.

Weirdo! :)

@Cmoon, circle pad + Monster Hunter sounds like a good marriage. Just had a dabble with the demo and seems nice, but camera control is imperative. I keep getting button confused and beat down by large animals rushing me off-screen while trying to get my shit in order.

Yeah, Monster Hunter is already a difficult game (apparently) and the controls make it far worse. For instance, there are points where I need to be using the camera and using the touch screen to activate an item at the same time. An absolute mess of poor design. Watched videos of the gameplay on wii-u and it seems like everything runs the way it should, so I'm hoping the CPP turns the whole experience around.

Might also get me excited about that 3ds resident evil game.

Just download the Revelations Demo, won't take long. It surprised me. Not only nicely made, but challenging! There's something for an RE title.

Not having a second analog stick is unforgivable, and I'd kick Nintendo in the shins - maybe even more than the region locking, since that's selfish import gamer preference - for not sticking it on the larger model.

The biggest and hardest wake-up slap is most definitely reserved for Masahiro Sakurai, who purposefully omitted circle pad pro support from Kid Icarus because he wanted people to play the game in a 'unique' way. I hope he realises what he's done.

After a slightly slow start, the 3DS is shaping up to be what the DS was for the last generation, i.e. the best overall platform of its generation-- at least for those who thought the PS2 was the best platform of its generation. In each case you have remarkable variety genre-wise among high-quality offerings. The PSP was freaking awesome in some genres, but not so much in others.

Yeah, I'm only on the 2 star quests and my weapon is still EXTREMELY weak! Very scared about some of the bigger/tougher monsters. Wondering if I should stick to gunlance as it feels really awkward, but this video makes good use of the lance.

Well, strictly speaking, it does follow that you share my beliefs about at least some other things. For example, you evidently share my belief that the PS2 was a gaming platform, and one of a past generation.

In any case my thought is that if you're mainly into big-budget, highly rated, action/fps/racing games, then you'll probably think that the original XBox was king. At least I think it was best for that sort of thing in its gen. What made the PS2 so strong was the huge library of quality more niche, less mainstream titles. I would argue that the DS took over that role in the generation that followed. It didn't have the high-budget, highly rated games. Just a ton of variety and quality, something really lacking on the consoles of the last generation.

Gunlance is a great weapon class, but it`s also the slowest one with very limited movement options. It leaves you with no roll at all and a sidestep/evade that's only doable after an attack or a combo. You should probably leave it until later, after you`ve learnt the monsters' attack patterns and know exactly when to do an evade.

Some would disagree, but I think Greatsword is a good starting choice for beginners. Its most powerful move is a downward slice upon unsheathing which can also be charged if you keep the attack button pressed for a while before releasing it. The general strategy for greatswords is as follows: run -> unsheath attack -> roll away -> sheath -> repeat X number of times until the monster is dead. Should be fairly simple to perform. Combo options are present too, but since the swings are so slow and cancelling in the middle of an attack animation is impossible, you should avoid launching a combo attack unless completely sure that it`s safe to do so.

Becoming an expert at greatswords is a whole different story though, as there`s no weapon class in Monster Hunter for which timing and positioning are as important as they are for greatswords.

I ruined my DS, couldn't get enough. One of the great swansongs for 2D gaming, in addition to all the other good stuff. I think I spend more than 15 hours on Mario Kart online mode alone, probably the best iteration since the SNES (and yes, I snake: it's a skill.)
