Don't Want to Sleep by
FM Belfast - not as catchy as their debut, but it's still FM Belfast. Most surprisingly, there's not a single song on the album - all pretty complex easy listening suites. They also took YouTube seriously this time around and brought at least one proper music video to the table. I'm afraid the tracks don't work terribly well taken out of context of the album, though. As quixotic, dare I say, as if it was 1969.
Speaking of nineteen-sixties/seventies, I heard some Polish blues/hard/psychedelic rock tunes from those times on the radio recently (things like Nurt and Breakout), and what struck me was how well they stood the test of time. That is, how honest it sounds. Nothing wanky or cynical about it.
Then I recalled
this absolutely fucking awesome cover that blew me away in 1995. I wasn't even into sixties'/seventies' music back when those decades were fashionable, but this track was something else.
We're talking the days of mixing Euro metal music with 4AD-like influences and most metalheads acting too cool for being nostalgic.
