Colornoise - Fake Apocalypse

2 piece female noise rock/grunge/stoner band from Costa Rica. Stumbled upon these ladies the other day and haven't stopped streaming their album on bandcamp. Give 'em a listen. http://colornoise.bandcamp.com/album/fake-apocalypse

Cornelius - Point.
Found this by random searching today at a local record store and its been ages since I've listened to this. Such a good album. Weird at times, but enough acoustic stuff to balance it all out. I wonder if there will ever be another Cornelius album, or just more touring with YMO.

King Krule - 6 Feet Beneath The Moon.

So striking, so young, so talented, it helps that he looks a bit like me at that age too - good ginger hair. If you've got a couple of minutes I highly recommend you find his song 'Out Getting Ribs' on YouTube.

Don't Want to Sleep by FM Belfast - not as catchy as their debut, but it's still FM Belfast. Most surprisingly, there's not a single song on the album - all pretty complex easy listening suites. They also took YouTube seriously this time around and brought at least one proper music video to the table. I'm afraid the tracks don't work terribly well taken out of context of the album, though. As quixotic, dare I say, as if it was 1969.

Speaking of nineteen-sixties/seventies, I heard some Polish blues/hard/psychedelic rock tunes from those times on the radio recently (things like Nurt and Breakout), and what struck me was how well they stood the test of time. That is, how honest it sounds. Nothing wanky or cynical about it.
Then I recalled this absolutely fucking awesome cover that blew me away in 1995. I wasn't even into sixties'/seventies' music back when those decades were fashionable, but this track was something else.
We're talking the days of mixing Euro metal music with 4AD-like influences and most metalheads acting too cool for being nostalgic.

My mom seems to like the 2nd FM Belfast album. Just likened it to Chumbawamba of all things...
I got an impression at work that the bloke a few years older than her, but same generation, liked it as well.
Last music I listened to she appeared to like so much was The Guardian Legend OST, bizarrely.

The entire Dillinger discography.
Saw them live 12 days ago and it was the most intense and rewarding live show i've ever been to.

This song is pure emotional genius: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZviju9HQSE
Lyrically as well. First half is all praise but then you rip down the false veil of bullshit and see the shit smelling core.
"My aren't you
surely finest of the brigade?
Always right...a portrait of dignity?
Innocent and never suspectible?

Wait...

You smell like shit, not the truth!
Full of device, not devotion
Conscience came right up to you and then
you threw it back
You are the scum of the earth
You are the scum of the ocean
To you it's above as below
You smear your filth across the world

Irresistible, but - typically of turbo-folk - gives me fear of possibility it might be too patriotic for comfort.

I cannot get enough of the 2013 LP 'Soviet Bass' by Midget Ninja Soundsytem.

Essentially old Russian communist/Soviet military music cross-bred with dance floor pounding bass music, ragga, neo-baile funk, old skool breakbeat hardcore (rave) etc.

I mean, listen to this track. Insanely good!

The whole LP is on Soundcloud here (along with this great set by them). On the album Soundcloud page is a link to a Facebook page where you can download it legally for free.

Lenin's party parties hard! Tonight the glow sticks shall glow red!

And I don't know why it's 'Soviet Bass II' on that cover, as everywhere else it drops the 'II'.

Filter - The Sun Comes Out Tonight.
Save for mastering problems(most tracks are clipping quite a lot, but that's the norm, right?) this is a solid album and worth a buy. Trent Reznor also has a quote about blowing up his new speakers with the album. I really like this quite a lot. More so than their last one.

When I was young, we got to visit Minneapolis (-the big city-) and while at the Mall of America we randomly bought a VHS tape of The Gate to the Mind's Eye. It was probably my first exposure to CG graphics, and I was in awe.

Not long ago I looked it up on Amazon and found out that it had a soundtrack CD, which can be purchased for $.01 by some very kind sellers, and which was composed by the She Blinded Me With Science guy. The video is less impressive now than it was when I was young, partly because lol early 3D and partly because now I realize that it's just random video clips set to music. But it's nice to have non 8-bit nostalgia music on my iPod.
