Read this. really touching and a good read. shows how oblivious people can be to others problems, and how some have to deal with it themselves without help. read it a long time back.Ruldra wrote: Bitter Virgin

Just like every Christmas, I'll watch that over a hamburger.GaijinPunch wrote:Haha. Not sure how those work. These two posts are hilariously tragic.Raytrace wrote:hecheff wrote: Just like every Christmas, I'll watch that over a hamburger.

Ooh ... Well, Shiki is psychological horror, as you asked. But yeah, next time I'll remember to add a remark whenever I suggest something.BryanM wrote:Haha, you were the one who suggested it >_<

I can now definitively say that it is one of the very best anime I've ever seen. Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Not perfect-- there were a couple places in particular where things felt a tiny bit rushed-- but overall one of the best shows I've had the pleasure of watching in a very, very long time.
There's a movie sequel in the works, and rumors abound that the show was popular enough for a second series to be entirely possible. I haven't been following too closely, but I'm quite hopeful.
Nadia is awesome, even the filler episodes still had some fun bits in them worth watching.Raytrace wrote:watching Nadia some more , I really like it, strangely I get both an Utena and Giant Robo feel off it art, cinematographically and music wise.

The anime barely scratches the surface, it covers only the first three English volumes.Raytrace wrote:I have started reading The Five Star Stories, my god it seems pretty deep and detailed! I shall persevere though.
Is it a bad idea to watch the anime first? or does it represent a small part of the manga and won't really spoiler too much?
what, what are you talking about, the art style is gorgeous and is part of its appealLord Satori wrote:I highly recommend watching Kaiba. It has a strange art style, but once you get past that, it's amazing!

if you're talking about the comments on myanimelist.net, I wouldn't worry about anything said in the 'discuss this episode' thread, most of them straight up REFUSE to watch anything which was not created digitally at some point in it's making :s.Lord Satori wrote:I only meant that it was unexpected. I didn't mean it like an "ugly on outside beautiful on inside" analogy. I just meant that there are a lot of people that are too quick to judge. In the comments section of the first episode two (out of three total) people were like "wtf is this, I hate strange art styles" or something, and I'm guessing they only got through the first 20 seconds if that, left a comment, and clicked the back button. It's tragic to see such a wonderful masterpiece go unnoticed.
it definitely has a well made feel to it - I love how it can sortof feel very old school (western) cartoon at times too.hecheff wrote: Made during what I consider the Golden Age of Japanese Animation.
It's that perfect blend of design, direction, and colorful animation that can only be achieved with a budget and business model that didn't need much catering for merchandise sales.
And this is Gainax we're talking about, so that really is something.
ok so it would be fine to watch the anime first?Ghegs wrote:The anime barely scratches the surface, it covers only the first three English volumes.Raytrace wrote:I have started reading The Five Star Stories, my god it seems pretty deep and detailed! I shall persevere though.

Yeah, no worries there. It's a pretty faithful adaptation of what it covers, too.Raytrace wrote:ok so it would be fine to watch the anime first?Ghegs wrote:The anime barely scratches the surface, it covers only the first three English volumes.Raytrace wrote:I have started reading The Five Star Stories, my god it seems pretty deep and detailed! I haven't seen much, but I was a freak for Lain and Boogiepop back in the day. Just finished Madoka, and it brought back those same feelings. I need more of this!
