I guess the romance in Catherine is pretty realistic. The hero has a shit job he doesn't like very much, and he hides from his girlfriend at a bar with the same couple of guys every night because he doesn't like her very much either. She wants to grow up, get married or move in together at the least, but even she isn't feeling it that much.

Basically anything where the people hate or are apathetic to each other.

seriously I think we should do one of em simulwatch/streamy thingies this christmas (the things with a chatroom beside the video window) so I could share my intense blub blub ;p (I'm talkin of 0080 of course :p)
Haha. Not sure how those work. Surely we could find something more LOL-worthy than that, no?

Black Lion, Mad Bull 34, Dominion Tank Police or Cyber City Oedo 808 would I suppose be more appropriate :D

yeh ive only gone onto one once - it was a guy watching Zeta - (he had posted on tumblr that he was about to go onto it) - it works quite well actually - i will try and checkout what the name of the site he used was next time I see him post.

The fansubs for Yamato 2199 are finally done, so I finished watching the series...

I can now definitively say that it is one of the very best anime I've ever seen. Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Not perfect-- there were a couple places in particular where things felt a tiny bit rushed-- but overall one of the best shows I've had the pleasure of watching in a very, very long time.

There's a movie sequel in the works, and rumors abound that the show was popular enough for a second series to be entirely possible. I haven't been following too closely, but I'm quite hopeful.

Wasurenagumo. I enjoyed it a lot. Got a huge boner from the short-haired chick's animation quality in the ded village, didn't see that coming, and the hand holding scene shits on Clannad any day.
I picked up DameDame's subs for KLK. The show went from "barely better than PSG, fastforward to animation" to "enjoyable".

Ooh ... Well, Shiki is psychological horror, as you asked. But yeah, next time I'll remember to add a remark whenever I suggest something.

brilliant - I thought we were still only at 22 :o

Yep I really have consistently enjoyed 2199 and I do think it is doing pretty ok in Japan so fingers crossed.

ok finished Yamato 2199 - loved it - although I did notice that I blub blubbed a lot more at the end of the original TV series, then again I suppose I didn't know it was going to happen then.

Art and music were so brilliant throughout, the world and architectureal design of Iscandar were sublime.

I have started reading The Five Star Stories, my god it seems pretty deep and detailed! I shall persevere though.

Is it a bad idea to watch the anime first? or does it represent a small part of the manga and won't really spoiler too much?

Nadia is awesome, even the filler episodes still had some fun bits in them worth watching.

Made during what I consider the Golden Age of Japanese Animation.
It's that perfect blend of design, direction, and colorful animation that can only be achieved with a budget and business model that didn't need much catering for merchandise sales.
And this is Gainax we're talking about, so that really is something.

I highly recommend watching Kaiba. It has a strange art style, but once you get past that, it's amazing! I wish there was more of it. I watched all 12 episodes in one night! Does anyone know who was behind this masterpiece and if they made anything else?

The anime barely scratches the surface, it covers only the first three English volumes.

I only meant that it was unexpected. I didn't mean it like an "ugly on outside beautiful on inside" analogy. I just meant that there are a lot of people that are too quick to judge. In the comments section of the first episode two (out of three total) people were like "wtf is this, I hate strange art styles" or something, and I'm guessing they only got through the first 20 seconds if that, left a comment, and clicked the back button. It's tragic to see such a wonderful masterpiece go unnoticed.

if you're talking about the comments on myanimelist.net, I wouldn't worry about anything said in the 'discuss this episode' thread, most of them straight up REFUSE to watch anything which was not created digitally at some point in it's making :s.

it definitely has a well made feel to it - I love how it can sortof feel very old school (western) cartoon at times too.

Yeah, no worries there. It's a pretty faithful adaptation of what it covers, too.

I'm looking for some mind-fuck anime to watch. Doesn't matter if its a movie or series.

I haven't seen much, but I was a freak for Lain and Boogiepop back in the day. Just finished Madoka, and it brought back those same feelings. I need more of this!

Mind-fuck anime? There's always the movie Mind Game for trippyness.

Yeah, I want to scream at my tv. I want to question reality.

Not looking for weird so much, more dark, secretive anime with crazy build up and "What a twist" moments. Lain and Madoka would be the two I could point towards, since I've seen so little anime.

Watching Mind Game right now... trippy seems pretty fitting.
