I can appreciate the SFIII series, but I could never get the hang of pressing forward to parry, and it's a mechanic that essentially negates the viability of fireballs at high levels of play.
Fireballs show up in high level games all the time, c.f. any The Shend video you will click on at random. Characters with good fireballs like Akuma, Remy and Urien abuse the crap out of their fireballs and I'm sure you can't dispute this, characters with weaker fireballs like Ryu/Ken still use them but at a range that's just outside melee range to surprise opponents who thought you couldn't hit them, this is because Third Strike is just too fast for "zoning" with the plainer fireballs, parry or no parry.

I actually liked Alpha 3 but the last time I tried it out online it was just people practicing their infinites, fun.

3rd strike, then one hell of a lot of nostalgia for champion edition. I know ST is better, but Champion Edition felt like a perfect game where all the problems with World Warrior were fixed.

For all the people who prefer Zero 2 over Zero 3, what if you just play Zero 3 with V-ism outlawed?

Does it just nerf too many characters that were completely designed around v-ism?

I never really played any of the Zero games aside from the first one on Saturn, and I've noticed that Zero 2 > Zero 3 is a pretty popular opinion.

Also, how would Zero 3 in X only mode be? On paper seems like it might be really really fun.

*Street Fighter 2 Turbo : Simple SF no bulla. Love the CPS1 style music.
*Super Turbo: Faster, crap announcer. Fast Rog. Bullshit A.I. Love some things on the CPS2 style music.
*Alpha 2: Gameplay not perfect regarding combos but everything else is. Music, Capcom 90s 2D anime art all over, great roster of characters. The SF game I come back more often to play here and there. Oh yeah, Sagat vs. Ryu special stage (you guys know which one), that stage always get me every time.
*Alpha 3: The only that I played lots when I was younger. Music was good but different from Alpha 2, gameplay wasn't bad unless you play someone who has a hard on on V-ism. As time goes on I played more Alpha 2.
*Steet Fighter EX series: Gameplay is solid, like more of the music than anything else. Did like the Arika characters, thought they were more Street Fighterish than IV characters (D. Dark yo!)
*2nd Impact: Good gameplay, great art, and yes great 90s Capcom music.
*Third Strike: Excellent gameplay for high level play, poorer music + poorer background art than 2nd Impact.
*IV: No soul. Shitty techno dubstep trash music. Gameplay is meh when I play it. This was aimed for those who haven't been playing fighting games for years but that's just me. Art is shit. Some of Evo matches videos are pretty cool at times.

I dunno why everyone seems to hate EX so much. I enjoy EX2+ quite a bit. It's higher than SF4 in my book, at least.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Oh yeah I agree with you on EX2+.

I had a copy of EX Plus Alpha for the PS1 years ago and people didn't like how slow the game was. I dunno, linking up combos and doing crazy things with them were kind-of fun for me.

It's no secret my favorite Street Fighter is Super Turbo so I'll split everything up into categories to make things more interesting:

Best mechanics: Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Best roster: Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition (soon to be Ultra Street Fighter IV)
Best character graphics: Street Fighter III series
Best backgrounds: Street Fighter Zero 3 Upper
Best music: Super Street Fighter II Turbo PC version (via CD audio or top-notch MIDI output)
Best announcer: Street Fighter III New Generation / 2nd Impact
Best intro: Super Street Fighter IIX (ST intro with a cooler "X" animation)

Hit the nail on the head..."SF IV has no soul".though I thought the character profile art was cool, the rest of it is crap. Also bang on is that the gameplay is meh.i can hardly play for long on it,but could still spend hours on any of the previous games in the series.predictable that 3rd strike is coming up a lot, less predictable is zero 2...good choice people!

And most likely Ultra Street Fighter IV when it comes out.

Get real, people :|
I will when Capcom does, the systems in SF4 are pathetic, scripted combos everywhere (go ahead, try and get creative..), everything stops doing damage after 3-4 hits so people just spend their time training their unblockable setups and other weird "features" to the milimeter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYweRkQ-zfw), that and other glitches that keep turning up in the game even after dozens of revisions. SF5 where?
Creative combos wouldn't change anything. People would still use the combos that do the most damage.
Unblockables are pretty rare even now and are going to get fixed in USF4.

Oh and if someone missed it, new USF4 mechanics are here, and something "fresh" and game changing is still unrevealed. (says Ono)

It's rumored that the fifth new character in USFIV is going to be Decapre, a Cammy clone created by Udon Comics.

Woopee. With minor gameplay changes and a possible bulla new character. Bravo Capcom.

Then again I'll wait until it will be announced.

Super Turbo for sure. This game is a masterpiece of videogame design and is as fresh today as the day it was released and just refuses to die in the competitive scene.

Videogame perfection in my book.

I had to look that up, I really hope a shitty fanfiction tier Cammy/Vega mashup isn't what we're going to end up with.

Huge amount of rebalancing, 5 new characters, new battle mechanics (3, we don't know about the 3rd one yet) new stages, brand new modes.

I was saying that he doesn't know anything, because this red focus or double ultra is already a HUGE change to how the game will play.

Being able to stop and counter every single move in the game if you have enough mojo just can't be beat, even with no life/energy left and the opponent mustering up all their DBZ bullshit you can still make it and eke out a "put that in your pipe and smoke it" victory, the stuff of rivalries for sure.
I'll echo these statements, 100%. Third Strike for me, all the way.

Outside of that, my next favorites would be Alpha 3 and a toss up between II CE or SSF2 Turbo.

Going by the thoughts and opinions on this thread,it's like SFZ never happened! It's like there's no game between super turbo and SFZ2! It's a shame there's not more love for it,so far I think I'm the only one...

I asked earlier if people that pick SF Zero 2 over SF Zero 3 would say the same if V-ism is outlawed. Does not having V-ism for certain characters actually make a broken game more broken or something?

I just wonder because I never really played the series besides Zero 1 on the Saturn and would like to get into it. Many of the Zero 3 character additions seem great too.

The opposite; banning V-ISM in Zero 3 would make it less unbalanced.

V-ISM is risky in that one hit knocks you out of the custom combo state, but the potential for damage from a single combo is pretty ridiculous.
