This week I did Sine Mora:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3Ocsd_21Lk

Next week is Wartech, then I am going to RTX (Rooster Teeth Expo) to dip my hand in to being a reporter for press (I have never done it before so I wanted to give it a shot), and I will probably end the season the week after with Death Smiles. I was going to go until I made it through every 360 game, but that would really defeat the purpose of splitting in to seasons, which is really to give me a break for a few months and allow me to stockpile up a few episodes instead of doing 1-2 every single week.

The latest episode is up. This week, I talk about Wartech.

Next week is my season finale.

My plan for next season is to include more than XBox 360 games. If I can get the screen flipped on my ShienRyu, I will be doing a review on that as well since I have the ST-V cart of that

Season Finale:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac3F8hpv ... r_embedded

And I normally do not talk a bunch about the scoring on these games and just mention it, but with the scoring in this game, it is a requirement to go in to the scoring system.

I do not know how long the break will be, but probably only 3-4 months

EDIT: I will try to stay as active as possible in these forums during the off time before season 2 starts. I am going to try and branch out and do reviews for other genres and games as well during the downtime.

Hey dudes, I am bringing this back for Season 2 here next month (technically Season 1.5, I just needed to take a small break), and I thought, what better way to do it than to post up a few 1cc's. I have only done one, but I am questioning posting it up since I did it on an easy setting. I 1cc'ed Dodonpachi Resurrection on Novice. If that is child's play to you guys, then I will work on a 1cc on the normal difficulty.

I can also 1cc Vorpal. I have not recorded that yet (that one is relatively simple to do though).

I just wanted your opinions on if you think me posting a 1cc of Dodonpachi Resurrection on Novice seems like a waste of time since it is technically easy mode

EDIT: I should also mention that this new season will be mostly retro games (I have a few indie games lined up as well for pc), but I wanted to really show off some classic shmups and possibly some unknown shmups to others.

You should learn the normal Daifukkatsu 1cc just because the laser rings will help you grow a beard.

To gear up for Season 2, which is due out here in a couple weeks, I decided to do a bonus episode, which is really a part 2 in which I talk about the massive update we got for Aeternum.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R58rol2WBVo

I currently have 3 episodes of Season 2 done, but wanted to get 5 episodes done before I start up the next Season (I mean, doing this during the holiday season means there will be weeks where if I do not have backup episodes, a week will be skipped, which I do not want to do

EDIT: Also, it appears that more Bullet Heaven HD is coming out October 12, so to ensure I am not "butting heads" with their release, Shmup Central will either come out a week or 2 before, or the week after. I have respect for those guys and do not want to play that game of releasing the same week as them.

This week I do Giga Wing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h13x8YuMMso

Somebody said something about the aspect ratio, so I fixed it in this review to try and get the aspect ratio much closer to 4:3

EDIT:
I need to point out that next weekend (on the 26th), I am doing a gaming marathon for charity called ZombieFest. As part of that, I am doing, what I am calling it, Shmup Central Live, where I play a game live. The game I selected is Undead Line on Genesis. I will be playing that for a maximum of about an hour. I have played the game for maybe 5 minutes, so it will be a new experience for me (relatively new). I will be talking about loud about it and all that jazz. Since I do not want to be that guy, I will wait until a few minutes before I start Shmup Central Live on Saturday and then post links up in here (it will probably be around 3-4pm Pacific time. Anybody who misses Shmup Central Live can always check it out later since I am going to post it up to YouTube the following Wednesday

In this episode, it is a live episode, which means I attempt to learn the game and show how I think when playing the game

I do Undead Line on Genesis.

I do plan on going back and digging in to this one much more.

My latest episode is Soldner-X

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OwBpKM1y44

This is a backup episode that I did. Unfortunately, this leaves me with only one more backup episode (I made some backup episodes so that I could be consistent and make sure everything happened weekly). I got a review down the pipe that was on a deadline, so I had no choice, but, I should be back to regular episodes next week. There are still a couple Dreamcast games that I wanted to go over that I own before moving on, and I also really wanted to do one for Armed Seven.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah017CGaLy0

This marks the halfway point of Season 2. I will probably take a much longer break between seasons 2 and 3 because I absolutely adore reviewing shmups and love this genre, but I do want to branch out a little bit and review other genres as well (which is very hard to do while doing a season of Shmup Central since I do this during my free time).

Next week I am doing Armed Seven.

I will have to see if there is a way to get it for an affordable price. I have a very strict rule that anything I review will be obtained legally (Undead Line was a repro, so that is why I did it during my life session and am not returning to it for a regular review). I know that makes some games very expensive.

I got lucky in the fact that I have the arcade version of Radiant Silvergun, but some games will be incredibly expensive for me to try to review.

Ketsui is available for both PS3 and 360, you should be able to score a used copy on ebay for around 40ish. Other shmups that you should be able to find for cheap are Under Defeat HD, Dodonpachi Resurrection (localization of Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu 1.5), and Eschatos (it's an import but only $30 at the moment in Play-Asia). I would also recommend Dodonpachi Saidaioujou or Mushihimesama Futari but those might be a little more expensive.

I have Under Defeat HD and DoDonPachi Resurrection. I will look in to those other ones. I have heard of them, but never played them. I have no issues with digging in and doing more modern games (like, if you check the stuff I have done, I haven't reviewed Raiden 4 and that was just because I got it at a weird time where the rest of the season was already planned out)

I really have a stockpile of games to go through, and I just got a Duo-R a month back (still no games for it yet, but I got a really nice duo-r with region mod and s-video mod). So I am pretty excited to jump in to that and get some games for that.

I also have a ST-V and Shienryu and Radiant Silvergun. I also have Blazing Star and Last Resort for MVS.

I mean, the first season, I had a bunch of complaints and criticisms (very valid ones since I was just learning how to do reviews), but one that kept coming up was that I was doing nothing but modern games. This season, my goal is to keep it with retro or more unknown games (well, nothing I review will be unknown in here, but other people do not know who Nyu Media is). I know that I have done a bunch of Dreamcast stuff this season, but it helps me keep some order so that I do not lose track of what I have, and have not done. I am still deciding whether or not to review Mars Matrix, but if I do, I will probably stop doing DC shmups until I eventually get GunBird 2.

I still have 2 backup episodes as well (2 Doujin STG's) that I am saving to use until I am unable to make a review.

The list of games for me to go through is massive, but I always welcome more. If there is a want for a specific game, though, I am more than happy to go straight to that one (unless it is already planned to come out, then I will wait until it releases that season). I am pretty open about what games I do and have no issues going to other games.

I did Armed Seven this week:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZa4ysP41tE

I really enjoyed this one. It is short and normal is really easy, but I only put it on normal to experiment with different weapon combinations that I can take to the harder levels and also for reviews so that I can mess around a little bit in normal and show footage of things that I am talking about in the review

My latest one is Ether Vapor:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNNauHoBrwc

This is one of my backup episodes, but I am already to the point where I should start pushing them out.

In this review, I do use the word perfect, but it is used very relatively. I say that the music fits the game perfectly, which I personally feel it does. I know that some words have been shared on my use of the word perfect, but my use of the word here is not saying a piece of the game or the entire game is perfect, but the way the aspects fit together, fit together perfectly, like a well built puzzle. Also, in the end I say that a word that perfectly describes this game is amazing. Yes, another use of the word perfect, but the game is amazing, so the word does fit.

I just wanted to point out that I use the word, but not how I have done in the past. I actually point out some flaws in this game.

Next week will be eXceed 3rd, then Alpha Mission 2. I wanted to do Blazing Star, but my MVS cart was having problems and I felt I would not be doing the game proper justice to use the Neo Geo X version since I know the colors are slightly off on Neo Geo X, so I picked another arcade shmup. Also, I do want to stress that I use original hardware, so when I am reviewing arcade stuff, it is stuff I own and not emulators.

The current review I am working on will fun since it is a very different concept than some of the other games I have played/reviewed. The game just loops over and over (similar to Donkey Kong), which makes it all about score.

I dipped in to Alpha Mission 2 on MVS this week. I used original hardware to do this as well.

Only 2 weeks left of this season. I will probably take a longer break for season 3 than 3 months. Since I started Shmup Central, I have also started branching out and reviewing other genres as well. Don't get me wrong, I love Shmups, but I love reviewing even more, and there are so many games out there, especially new ones, ready to be reviewed.

Also, this week I will have a bonus episode for Shmup Central since I did a preview of a game that is getting released early next year. It is an arena shooter. I can post up here when that goes up.

Here is a bonus episode. I got the opportunity to play an early version of the arena shooter Assault Android Cactus. It is my first preview, but I think I did good. I really tried to explain everything. I think I covered everything quite well including the scoring system. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them

Nothing is off limits. There are so many games out there to where it is difficult for me to know what is all out there. Normally with games on Desura, I contact about a review code, but I am taking a break for longer than 3 months this time (I also review indie games and am starting to get backed up), so I will end up just buying this one in the next couple of days and keeping it on the back burner for now.

As for when I am coming back, well, it all depends on how indie reviews are going. If it all slows down, I will come back sooner than later. If it picks up, I might take my time to come back (max will be about 6 months).

I am going to try to at least come around and post every now and again on threads in here since I do want to try to be as active as I can in here

Hey guys, I am back with a new episode of Shmup Central. In this episode, I review Humans Must Answer for PC

I am doing Season 3 different than seasons 1 and 2. Keep in mind that I love shmups dearly and love reviewing them.
My original idea was that I was going to do Shmup Central in seasons, and then in between seasons, I would review other games. Well, reviewing those other games truly picked up much faster than I imagined. So, in order to do both, I am tapering season 3. It will not be an episode a week. When reviews die down, I will review more shmups in a row, but, as of right now, with how fast everything is moving, I feel I would be harming myself if I did not move forward with the changes.

Shmup Central is not going away and, if I have it my way, will never go away. I am just not going to be pumping out 3 months of reviews with a review a week like I used to. They will still happen, but less frequently.

...by which I mean: You should review Mars Matrix, 'cos that game needs more hype. But don't feel pressured. I know you've got a big backlog and stuff.

That game is very much on my "to do" list. I still have that and a stack of 15-20 Genesis games that I have not even touched since I have been saving them for Shmup Central that I will dip in to as soon as these other reviews slow down

Thanks for bringing it up malchitos. Went onto VideoGameRescue's page and found this video here.

A real shame to hear. I didn't get to see a lot of his videos so I realise it might seem strange for me to be a bit sad about his passing, but it is saddening to see advocates for shmups pass away especially those who can do good objective reviews that help popularise the genre. Rest in peace. :(
