Re: is STGT happening?
Maybe I should actually have done my long considered STGT Gaiden this summer.
My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself

yeah i'm kinda mad i can only get to stage 4 in that game and v v (which is easier)... not that stage 3 doesn't give me trouble in both games. iBad.exeRuldra wrote:Tatsujin Oh or bust. I want to see someone other than Sikraiken beating it.

no really whatever the next stgt or stgt-based event is, please let it have tatsujinou (yes, i've only now realized that) and radical radial.

Not sure why dex would withhold this anyway! Promised multiple times, never happened. The least he could've done was say that he wouldn't be hosting and perhaps let someone else hold it in his stead.

Yes, because scoring systems that forbid you from using any of the game's highly-touted unique mechanics make me jizz DDP lasers.Formless God wrote:Sine Mora.
Actually, fuck it. Akira Goya shmups all day every day. What's that? You can't handle guro? We don't fucking care.

I'm also surprised STGT hasn't happened yet. I was looking forward to all the complaining, none of which would be from me because I wouldn't enter.
Re: is STGT happening?
Yes, everyone totally wants to spend a chunk of their free time with games they'd rather not play for a little over one month.

Apparently not, since we're half way through October now. It must have been taken over by the soup nazi.

Re: is STGT happening?
I see. Is it because no one is interested in participating or no one is interested in organizing?
Re: is STGT happening?
Usual organizer's been busy. I ran an STGT not all that long ago, so he probably figured it wouldn't be missed.

Aw okay.
If there's no opposition to having a noob go on a test run rebooting this, I'm up for organizing a STGT Redux sort of thing.
I can't manage having to organize teams and multiple rounds and such though, so if ever, it will be a simple individual tournament, and will feature one game a week.
Maybe until such time you or the usual organizer chooses to resume the standard STGT?

Re: is STGT happening?
It's really not easy to run one. I'd recommend just waiting until my next one (few months until, probably), or until dex finally decides he's ready to run his.

Re: is STGT happening?
What would be the most difficult parts of running one?
From my point of view, there would just be the matter of what game to play for the week, then people submit their high scores, then all the high scores are ranked into an ordered list.

Re: is STGT happening?
Assigning points, keeping track of peoples' positions, any scoring methods within the tourney itself, maintaining peoples' placings, etc. isn't easy when you have 50+ entrants unless you have or can make the right tools

Re: is STGT happening?
Actually, that's why I want to have a crack at it.
I may not be good at playing shmups (yet?), but I think I'm fairly good at organizing things and keeping track of stuff that involve statistics and numbers in general. I'm a computer programmer by trade, so if there are tools that need to be made, I feel like I can make them. So between programming tools and utilizing good ol' MS Excel, I think I'm up for it.

Re: is STGT happening?
Aha, I got the impression that you weren't a programmer. Yeah, if you can do some simple number crunching and deal with a SQL database, it's pretty easy at that point
In that case, go for it! Don't be afraid to try out cool scoring mechanics inside the actual tournament itself, they're surprisingly interesting.
Also don't be afraid to "break the mold" and give alternate rulesets and special challenges (stuff like ESPGaluda: Kakusei Overmode only, or Stage 1 Score Attack, and whatnot). People like those.

Re: is STGT happening?
Would it be too boring if I don't try and implement cool scoring mechanics? I was thinking just a straightforward scoring system where the top scorer gets a maximum of 100 points, and then the rest would get points as a percentage of that top score. For example (I got the Players & Score from one of your old threads, then computed the score I'm proposing via Excel):trap15 wrote:Aha, I got the impression that you weren't a programmer. Re: is STGT happening?
you can just stack rank on score. for multiple games you can just add ranks and sort ascending. let me know if you need any help with excel tools. I do things close to this for my job. I can write cool excel formulae parsers if all scores are submitted in a fixed format.heisenbergman wrote:Oh, sure. sorry, but what does stacking rank on score mean, exactly?

Re: is STGT happening?
Sort descending, number 1 to whatever... it works great if the number of participants are always equal and no scores are similar. you have to do a bit of tweeking for similar scores and varying participants.heisenbergman wrote:sorry, but what does stacking rank on score mean, exactly?
