I'm doing quite wonderfully bad at this week's game. I'm trying to get better though as I remember this and its pretty nice. Though this is probably one of those shmups where the Japan version is 10x harder than the other regions? Also, don't die I've learned quite quickly. You will get your ass handed to you as a result even with autofire.
Well, some checkpoints are harder than others in that respect. Generally any checkpoint that immediately sets a bunch of snipers on you from multiple directions is going to be as far as I go if I die there even once.
The only checkpoint I've never been able to recover from without autofire is the one immediately prefacing the last stage boss. All of the others I can say with certainty are recoverable if you try hard and strategize well.
All of the checkpoints are recoverable. There's an interview with the designer where he says that the team played through and if one of them was able to get past a checkpoint, they moved on.

Also, I will definitely be submitting a score this week. This game is much much much much much better than Master Of Weapon.
trap15 is totally Quan Shmuppi. He summons flying sharks with the power of his Flying Shark PCB and spins up Sharknados with his mystical powers from the Americarealm.
Fear not: I left out the part where Quan Shmuppi summons its magical powers by incanting "HISHOUZAME!" (which comes across as "Tissue samaaaaaaaay" very loudly, and from that it magically transforms into a Hishouzame JPN region board.

Have you actually checked it to make sure, I seem to remember that one of the (hacked) English bootlegs of the game is based on a Japanese revision we don't appear to have a dump of the original for so there are probably undumped revisions out there :-p

My Sky Shark is a bootleg, but I have no way of dumping it. Would you like a photo?
