Reading the comments on SRK is funny.

Good stuff though, would be sweet for ST players. :D

Cool stuff. I have an A board sitting around but no games. I might make a 'lite' version with DB15 inputs.

I like what you did with the DC-DC converter too, and PS A/V port. Great ideas!

funny comments indeed. I didn't quite understand all the effort for usb inputs, but it makes sense considering almost everyone at srk uses madcatz sticks.

very intuitive and creative design. A great excecution of form and fuction. The feel good hit of the summer. Two thumbs, way up.

Cool project. If the USB to DB15 conversion board is lag free, it would be an awesome way to use PS3 sticks on superguns.

Are you going to show build pics of any of the stuff you've already done?

Not planning on it. I'd rather show it off when it's done. I'm not opposed to showing the inside, I just don't want it to look like poo :D

I have to be honest and say I'm not particularly interested in the CPS2 itself, but I'm drooling at what you've managed with the USB controller input.

So you made a USB to DB15 adaptor?

It's in the works. Right now it's a custom board for the CPS2, but when I'm done ironing out everything, the circuit can plop right onto a new board for DB-15 users :D

I Read your blog; very interesting. I'm curious about the input lag you mentioned. Is it due to the USB communication or due to the post processing on the host side (i.e. the converstion to discrete I/O itself) ? device I/O are more likely sent through the interrupt pipe at the USB layer and host controller are usually dead ball accurate at keeping up with the polling rate; so It's really weird to see such big variance in the input lag.

The USB interrupts should be along the lines of 1ms, but there are a few layers of code between the interrupt and my driver. My discrete I/O processing is very simple and the same every time, so that should cause no variation in timing.

So, I've been mia for that last few months mostly due to prepping for EVO 2013 and the ST Games tournament there. For those of you that don't venture into SRK Tech Talk very often, here are my event reflections:

UD-CPS2 ran great (save a few unsupported controllers) and had a positive response from everyone I talked to, including top players. My only major regret was that I didn't bug the Japanese players to try out my system. So far as I know, all of the JP players matches were streamed, meaning they would be playing on the head-to-head cabs. I'm sure I could have at least convinced Kusumondo to give it a shot, being as he was only there for ST, whereas the other JP players also had commitments to other games and didn't have much time for casuals. I did at least have Kusumondo sign my SSFIIX board :D

Aside from the head-to-head cab, we ran 3 UD-CPS2s for most of the tournament. Between this event, Super Arcade weekly tourneys, and some last minute sessions with other players, there has been quite a bit of testing in the last couple of months, so I'm feeling pretty confident in this system (I was already pretty confident, but this is some excellent larger scale testing).

Here are some photos:

Damdai vs Afro Legends (last match in grand finals of the Grand Finale tournament)

Armando of IEBattlegrounds gave me a great shout-out on stream (jump to 10:49:20): http://www.twitch.tv/iebattlegrounds/b/429995386

Here's a little video of my travels and some reflections after the event:

Really awesome work undamned.
That USB --> Discrete board would be great to throw into a Supergun.

Will you be making them available soon?

I'm hoping. Seems like things always take 10x as long as they should. Gotta make another batch of boards for UD-CPS2 soon, so I think I'll include in there some revamped converter boards, too. I made some converters a while back, but found some important changes that need to be made (changes already implemented in UD-CPS2). Also, need to update firmware based on some controllers that didnt' work @ evo. The converters use the same firmware as UD-CPS2, so that will make things easy as far as firmware maintenance and whatnot. I'm looking forward to the revolution :D

Would this UD-CPS2 be useful with the STGs (i.e. Progear No Arashi, Mars Matrix, etc.)?

Yep, it'll run any CPS2 game of the appropriate region. Only caveats being stuff like 3 player games obviously don't have support for the 3rd player, etc. Can't recall if Puzzloop 2 requires a rotary controller or not...

I saw the interview earlier today and I must say that I was really impressed. The UD-CPS2 looks lovely, but the most interesting bit is the USB compatibility, for me, this is a breakthrough :)

I finally got some time to watch the interview, undamned, very impressive stuff, man! I really like the whole "hold-buttons to remap" thing when you connect a stick to it, and I guess this button setup is saved so you won't have to do it each time you power on your UD-CPS2?

Right now I do not have a save feature. That is mostly because I am focused on gaming events where people are swapping controllers every few minutes and I don't want the last guy's settings to affect the next guy. I could add something in, though :D

Undamned is the leading English-speaking expert on the consolized UD-CPS2 because he's the one who made it.

You still need to change your signature to this, UD.
