The Fitness Thread
Re: The Fitness Thread
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 88 kg
Positive Health Habits: Don't smoke, don't drink a lot of alcohol, heavy exercise routine
Negative Health Habits: probably not enough sleep
General condition: overweight sportsman, typical of ex-rugby/waterpolo/rowing/etc. players...
I should go down to 80 kgs, but overall I am in a very good shape. A meaningful fact is that I can still swim butterfly at fairly good times, among other things (e.g. 160 kgs of deadlift...).
I would be happy if I would not put up weight in an extremely specific part of my body, though, but that's the effect of sport activity: extra weight becomes concentrated and well, unaesthetic.
GP: if you want to lose your love handles, then you must stop drinking. We're 30+, so we do not really have any choices, on this matter.

Re: The Fitness Thread
I'd say I'm somewhat in a decent shape:

Re: The Fitness Thread
Time to start doing some exercise.
Height: 190 cm
Weight: 9? kg
Positive Health Habits: none (I used to do exercise every day but then I bought a PC)
Negative Health Habits: Hikkikoneet, drinking 2lt of Coke per day.
General condition:
Extra stupid fact: I lose weight when I'm in love (isn't that cuuute <3)

Re: The Fitness Thread
Height: 6'
Weight: ~175-180
Positive Health Habits: Changed my diet about a month ago using the Primal Blueprint as a guideline and I dropped close to ~20lbs. I basically cut grains, potatoes, sweets, and processed food out of my regular diet, and I eat a lot more fruit, vegetables, and greens. I still have a couple meals on the weekends with potatoes, rice, or bread (My cheat meals are usually hamburgers and fries, hoagies/cheesesteaks, and anything involving gravy and mashed potatoes) but I feel a lot better now. I just have to get in to an exercise routine and I think I'll be in pretty good shape.
Negative Health Habits: Pretty sedentary, work night shift so my sleep is erratic, but I usually sleep pretty well (about 6 hours a day).
General Outlook: A slow process of decline. Operations and radiation therapy have done a number on my spine so I have a painful descent in to crippledom to look forward to over the next 10-20 years.

Hmmm...
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 205 lbs.
Positive habits: Don't drink, don't smoke, trying to be better about exercising (I try to get out for a walk in the afternoons at work, and the building I live in has a nice fitness center and an indoor pool)
Negative habits: Don't eat very well, sometimes don't get much sleep due to night owl tendencies
General condition: I generally do OK, but could use to lose weight. Working on that now.

I can live off of 6 hours a night as long as I can get in a 20 minute power nap during the day. I have that flexibility at work, thankfully.CIT wrote:Whoa, that's what I usually sleep, but it's not enough for me by a long shot.Acid King wrote:I usually sleep pretty well (about 6 hours a day)

Re: The Fitness Thread
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 167lbs
Positive Health Habits: Weights 3 times a week, cardio twice a week, stretch 3 times a day. I Eat only organic food during the week, lots of homemade veggie juices, I eat mostly veggies, a small amount of fruit, and just a little meat here and there. Take vitamins. No caffeine, pop, sugar, drugs, pharmaceuticals or smokes.
Negative Health Habits: Drink and eat out on weekends.
General condition: Decent shape, have a small amount of pudge around the the belt line. Could lose another 15lbs and be ripped. I have tendonitis in my right forearm and elbow area, which sucks because when it flares up I have to give up weight training for months at a time on occasion.
I used to be in very good shape, but a knee injury and tendonitis sidelined me for about a year.
If you haven't seen "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead", I suggest you watch it. I was 205lbs, with sky high blood pressure and back problems, I had to be hospitalized when I was 28, I nearly had a stroke. I did a 15 day 'reboot with joe' a few months back and it changed my life, I don't crave caffeine, or junk food or anything anymore. Blood pressure is back to normal without medication (all the nasty side effects, like depression, etc...). I have tons of energy now, and I focus better during the day, at work, even when I feel like playing a shmup. Others have commented on my appearance changing, it feels good.
My personal philosophy is this:
"Everything your body needs to heal and feel good can be dug out of the ground"
or....
Natural = Good
Pharma = Bad

Re: The Fitness Thread
Height: 6'4''
Weight: 165 lbs.
Positive habits: Run 5k 3 or 4 times a week. Don't smoke. Have been working to cut down my meat consumption and increase veggies; currently doing the weekday vegetarian thing.
Negative habits: Still drink a lot of soda - my consumption has actually increased lately. My office is well stocked with cookies and other low-grade snacks, which I eat twice a day every day.
General condition: I was 220 when I graduated high school, so I'm feeling pretty good about myself. I quit soda once a few years back, I really need to get back on that wagon - I'm not all that concerned about the junk food in my diet at this point.

Weight: 140ish? I dunno.
Positive habits: Bike to work most days (12k). Vaporize instead of smoking sometimes. Moderately athletic sex.
Negative habits: Office job. Sedentary hobbies (gaming, coding). Smoking herb -- often. Drinking alcohol -- rarely.
General condition: Fair.
Just don't lie there like a fish. Alternatively, I'm sure a bit of googling will help you find the information you're looking for.

Well, you see, first you get into the "fuck harness." The harness should be attached to the ceiling, or a bar like the kind used for pullups. Next, have your partner spread peanut butter across your chest, back, and thighs. Now you're ready to climb the climbing wall until you reach your mount. Lower yourself gently into the hole until your legs are completely submerged. Congratulations, you have completed one "rep"!CStarFlare wrote:What is this, I want it.GaijinPunch wrote: Often have athletic sex.

Re: The Fitness Thread
Probably not your case, but I see too many people taking vitamins simply because "they're good for you". Always check with a nutricionist to see what vitamins your body really needs. Excess of vitamins can be as harmful as a lack of them.broken harbour wrote:Take vitamins.

In my case, I knew what I was deficient in, in most cases, the typical north American is deficient in Vitamin B, D, Selenium and many others. Even if you eat non-organic veggies and fruits, most of the soil it's grown in is stripped of vitamins and minerals and doesn't get taken up into your body.
Even if someone is stupid and takes too much of a vitamin, most are just sent away through urine, although there are a small number that could be dangerous, people tend to hype it way too much.
When was the last time you heard about someone dying or getting ill from a vitamin overdose?
Re: The Fitness Thread
Height: 6'
Weight: 220 lbs
Positive habits: I get up at 6am every morning and go to the gym for an hour before work, I also go for walks around steep hills at lunch times whenever I can. I've been weight training for over 25 years now so I've gained a lot of muscle. I eat quite healthy foods and have never smoked.
Negative habits: Like many folks I work at a computer, typically for 9 to 12 hrs a day and often 6 days a week - and sitting for that long can't be good for you. I do like a nice craft beer (or seven)
but I keep that under reasonably good control during the week and really only indulge at weekends. And then of course in my spare time I also like to sit in front of a CRT and play games... but that's OK, it's relaxing, right?

You can make a guess of what vitamins you're lacking, but the only way to know for sure is with a blood test. You might be taking supplements you don't need at all.broken harbour wrote:In my case, I knew what I was deficient in, in most cases, the typical north American is deficient in Vitamin B, D, Selenium and many others.
Even if some of them are eliminated through urine they can cause problems. Excess vitamin C can cause kidney stones for example.Even if someone is stupid and takes too much of a vitamin, most are just sent away through urine, although there are a small number that could be dangerous, people tend to hype it way too much.
Can't think of any to be honest, but the ill effects of overdoses are well documented. When was the last time you heard about someone dying or getting ill from a vitamin overdose?

And excess calcium raises risk of a circulatory clog, and excess Vitamin A will turn your bones into ash/kill you outright if you eat the wrong kind of animal liver...

Yes, you still have to do research and be smart about it.
I had blood tests done.
