XRGB-mini Framemeister
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Thanks, that did the trick. Bloody annoying to have to shift that up and down when changing consoles.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
if you use a PS2 instead, it won't happen.

Hello friends!
Here's my re-soldered EURO SCART adapter.
Anything wrong with the wiring?
I have a black screen on my Sega Mega Drive 1 console with RGB SCART cable.
All GND are soldered.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Well I messed around in the XRGB Mini not thinking I'd be able to fix this (after all, it only happens during the intro to Yoshi's Island) and if I change Sync_Level to 13 it more or less fixes it. Anything higher or anything lower and it gets all jumpy again. Why only this one game at this one scene?Hamburglar wrote:I just noticed a very weird problem on my NTSC/US setup. I wanted to play some Yoshi's Island, and when I started it up, the beginning scene was jumping up and down like crazy (the intro where the stork is carrying baby Mario and children's music is playing, before the title screen). So yeah...the picture is jumping up and down like mad. This is on the XRGB Mini; it does not do this when I go straight to the TV via composite, so I think it's the XRGB's fault. However, the rest of Yoshi's Island plays fine. Does anyone know what could be going on?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Is that technically feasible? There is no improvement that 480i brings over 240p just treating both as 240p would be great.Konsolkongen wrote:It would be awesome if they could make the Framemeister see everything that's 480i as 240p. Not just for those games that switch between the two modes, but also for games like the shitty Metal Slug ports on the PS2. A 480p to 240p would also be great when using the Gameboy Player on the Gamecube.
Another stupid thing is some games in 480p switch to 480i on occasion, any hope for that being fixed?

yes, but it doesn't look good.Is that technically feasible?
Which 480p title switches to 480i "on occasion" ?

Mostly PS2 games. Mega Man X8 is the most noticeable. You end up missing about 10 seconds of cutscenes.Fudoh wrote:yes, but it doesn't look good.Is that technically feasible?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Resident Evil 2 for the N64 is virtually unplayable using an XRGB Mini because every time you press the start button, the resolution changes, meaning the XRGB Mini flickers to black for a few seconds. Sometimes it changes from room to room.Fudoh wrote:yes, but it doesn't look good.Is that technically feasible?

Or they could fix it:)Fudoh wrote:if you use a PS2 instead, it won't happen.
Konsolkongen tells me it didn't do this in previous firmwares.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I'm not so sure about what causes this. I've never experienced it on my setup, no matter what source system.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
It's a chipped PAL console, so maybe it's a slightly different refresh than an original NTSC?

It also happens when using a chipped PAL PS2 console to play NTSC PS1 games.Fudoh wrote:if you use a PS2 instead, it won't happen.

On a side note, 59.40Hz = Stuttering. slk486 informed me that playing NTSC PS1 games on a chipped PAL PS1 you get 59.27Hz which is even worse. So it looks like the only way to get stutter-free gameplay is to import a US/JAP PS1 or PS2 assuming the NTSC PS2 outputs in proper 60Hz.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Your wiring is correct, but I would resolder many of the wires. Some of them look pretty bad and could end up breaking after a little while. Just heat up the soldering points with your soldering iron for a few seconds and add a bit more solder. That should make them look nice and clean. Especially pin 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 14, 18 and 20 look bad.dizzydevil wrote:Hello friends!

EDIT: And make sure your soldering iron is hot enough before you start soldering. It may take several minutes depending on the type and model.

Thanks for your comment.
I re-soldered all cables today, but again I have a black screen,
but my xrgb-mini have nice picture from AV cable.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
If your cable uses sync instead of composite video, it might be missing the neccessary capacitor on the sync line, but then again I assume that you successfully used the same cable on a different display before, didn't you ?

I use this cable - http://www.listingfactoryhost.com/users ... _large.jpg
It work perfectly in RGB mode for me on my TV.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
My remote is stupid (it hasn't worked for days, and the batteries were just swapped). I can't remember where it was in this thread that someone had the same problem.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Here are some settings I wrote up for slk486 for component and RGB. For component I tried to match the brightness and color settings to the Lumagen Vision Pro HDP, which are much better right out of the box. These settings were made with a PSP connected, but they seem to work well with other systems too. Much more pleasing than the oversaturated default settings IMO.
Haven't fiddled as much with the color and brightness settings for RGB since there doesn't seem to be much need for it.
The A/D settings were changed to minimize the visible noise. These settings work well on PSP (component) and Mega Drive 1 (RGB), but it may not work as good on other systems. The problem with the A/D settings is that you can easily remove 99% visible noise in a solid color, but then the noise will most likely be visible on a different color instead. Also, raising or lowering the brightness setting will also heavily influence what colors that show the noise. Lowering the A/D setting will darken the picture and raising it will brighten it, so it's not easy at all to get a good result
For the PSP I aimed for noise-free white, gray (when pressing Home) and a light brown color (visible when starting up Lunar).
For Mega Drive I used Sonic 1 and Artemio's excellent 240p Test Suite. It's probably easier to conceal the noise on 240p games, without loosing much detail in the picture, if you use one of the image modes with active Low-pass filtering (Standard/Game1/Meister). Using one of these image modes is also useful for hiding things like "jailbars" on the NES for example.
The A/D setting I use for RGB seems to work fine for Saturn as well, when using Picture mode.
Any thoughts or improvements? I don't have any settings for HDMI, S-video or composite.
slk486 I hope this helps.

Thanks! Not having a D-Terminal cable yet, does the Mini have separate settings for different inputs?

It does
It even stores different settings for 240p, 480i and 480p on component, but for some reason it doesn't do this on RGB which is very annoying.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Great! Hopefully we can get that on RGB and profiles soon

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Just four profiles selectable by the colored buttons on the remote would be awesome. It wouldn't bother me at all if the presets would have to be made using a program on a PC, if there are limitations in the XRGB OSD.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
That would really be awesome. That and different settings for differnt RGB resolutions.
I mean - I have a lot of old PAL games featuring the infamous PAL bars. The Mini allows to "stretch away" these bars half-decently via V_WIDTH. Unfortunately V_WIDTH doesn't work as you wold expect - the more you stretch the image, the more it is decentered vertically. So you have to adjust V_POS additionally.
Adjusting one of these settings is a major pain in the ass (the Mini blacks out several seconds each time they are altered); adjusting them both and resetting them if you wont to play something without PAL bars even more so.
Being able to use profiles would solve this problem.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hi guys. I´m currently in my first steps with the x-rgb mini. Right now I have impressive results with the Snes, Saturn and Ps1.
I´m having sync problems with two of my beloved consoles, the Megadrive and Neo Geo Aes. First of all, both machines are modified (but so are saturn and snes and they work fine).
On Neo Geo Aes, i´m having the screen trembling at random, I have circled all of the sync levels, and it gets very minor on sync 24, but still noticeable. For the Megadrive, it´s a random screen jumping mess.
Do I need the retrogamincagles.co.uk scart to rgb framemeister cable with the sync stripper???

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I think I've had the best results yet with 11, but 14 may be better. I'm going through all of them, and from 11 on I don't get any drop-outs, which is really nice. A "twitch" here and there would be acceptable (which is kinda what I have now), at least for the time being. In the long run, I expect someone to fix that shit.fogueman wrote: On Neo Geo Aes, i´m having the screen trembling at random, I have circled all of the sync levels, and it gets very minor on sync 24, but still noticeable. Any ideas what to do about my stupid remote, guys?

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hi! I just got mine and it works great with the rca video from my nes, but I have a question about the RGB. I got all my cables from retro-access.com for US/NTSC consoles (Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo). Are those considered euro scart based and , if so, where can I get the euro scart to mini cable in the U.S.? It looks as if retro-access is out of the question as they are on vacation from what ebay says when i try to order it.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
yes, they're considered Euro-Scart and you can get the proper adapter cable right here:

I've had my XRGB mini for months, and never figured this out... why does it say UNSUPPORTED when I try to use Smart x2 mode?
