PS1 Strike Force Hydra....

Post by dave4shmups »

This was a Euro-only release; how does it compare to the GBA port?

Guys, I tried the GBA version out for a few minutes, and I thought it was really bad: Huge ship, crap controls, etc...

Granted, I did only try it out for a few minutes, and granted, I've no idea how the PSX version compares, but be warned that this game might not be worth picking up.

Back on the old forums somebody had bought a copy for the PS1 and posted his impressions. "Crappiest of the crap in the land of crap" was pretty much what he said.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Thanks for that. Certainly not on my 'must-buy' list then.

Out of interest though, are there any PSone shmups that were only released in Europe or USA that are any good?

This is easily the worst shooter I've played. Sold it the same day I got it.(GBA version) Really a waste of time.

Quick rundown of the GBA version: Big-ass ship, loose controls, long lifebar, 9 STARTING LIVES, and incredible ease. I 1cc'd it on the first go, while talking with my lady on the phone.

Each level is broken down into 3 parts. The first has you hunting down the Sub-boss and killing him. Then comes a speed level where you must avoid obstacles in the water. Then comes the boss level after hunting him down. Sounds kinda fun, but isn't.

Egads, well, thanks for that feedback everyone! At any rate, although I know that Saturns can be modded to play PAL games, I don't think PS1's can be.

You'll either need a mod-chip or Breaker Pro boot disk for that chap. Or one of those jobbies that plugs on the parallel port if you have an old PS1.

No wonder I've never heard of this game-- it's evidently a piece of crap. Then again, I've heard a whole lot about E.T. for the Atari 2600 and that was a giant piece of crap.

OT: Yeah, my favorite album is Yoshimi, but I love their stuff in general. One of my all-time favorite bands, really.
