Riveting stuff as usual mate, thanks for keeping everyone abreast of every conceivable development regarding next gen that occurs on planet earth. I already deleted most of my rss feeds as this is much quicker. It's also a good way to ensure this thread stays lodged permanently on top of the page until some actual news is reported.Friendly wrote:In other news, the Doritos Pope (Geoff Keighley) confirmed a few days ago that Spike TV will only stream Microsoft's E3 press conference, not Sony's. The fact that Microsoft's press conference is at 9:30 AM while Sony's is at 6 PM (9 PM Eastern) may also have something to do with it. Weekday morning timeslots aren't exactly an ad revenue goldmine for Spike.Friendly wrote:In other news, the Doritos Pope (Geoff Keighley) confirmed a few days ago that Spike TV will only stream Microsoft's E3 press conference, not Sony's. I have a bad feeling that might be the case. As stupid as these measures are, the executives at Microsoft probably wouldn't implement them without some expectation of success.cools wrote:Nah, it's timed perfectly, and the mainstream will lap it up.Skykid wrote:The sad thing for MS is, the basic business model under the Xbone has potential - it could have been the all-in-one entertainment content provider they wanted, but they clobbered it with unrealistic requirements, Kinect, and DRM. I've been wondering about that, too. It's like the perfect never ending shitstorm. More and increasingly terrible news every day.moh wrote:how often do you have to change the thread title..

But can't the thread title just stay fixed. It's not like your earning revenue every time someone visits your threads, why are you so eager to bump/draw attention to them.Friendly wrote:I've been wondering about that, too. Hop into the Mega drive thread and talk about some games. Good times guaranteed.

Re: Xbone: It's Official: No More Game Ownership
This is a dealbreaker for me on principle alone. I was at my parents house last weekend and I plugged in the NES that we got in 1985 and played some Life Force. What are the chances we'll be able to play anything on XBone in 25 years?
Re: Xbone: OFFICIAL: No Renting, Private Sales, Loanig, Owni
I own three consoles, a lot of peripherals, a lot of physical games, mostly bought at full price or in high end LEs, lots of digital purchases and 7 years of Xbox live. It's easy to spend this much when you have a regular flow of easily disposable income and really like a hobby. Plus I do have multiple consoles and a number of expensive perhpierals and LEs. Realistically I've had the console for 7.5 years. Spending averaging out to more than $100 a month doesn't surprise me.Ed Oscuro wrote:fuckingnjiska wrote:Pretty sure I've spent well over $10,000 on the Xbox 360.
HOW?
I also really don't give a shit about resale. I buy games to own, to play and to keep. So nothing was on store credit, all was cash. Plus I'm in Canada so games were $70 minimum here for a while and consoles had a $100 mark up. $10,000 is by no means a 100% accurate number, it's just the result I came to after some quick math based on what I own and what I remember paying for it. Plus 7.5 years of Xbox live, many were paid month to month, not with yearly $50 memberships because I was lazy about renewal.
As for time, gaming was my primary hobby and I was single for a rather long time after a previous bad relationship. I was also writing a lot of reviews and what have you because I enjoyed it. Made it easier to find the time to play.
This kind of spending has sort of come to an end since I lost my last job and gained a lovely lady friend.

Word, brother. I buy games to keep, too; I think this is a disagreement based on choices, and knowing your life history isn't going to sway my personal feeling that few games are worth full retail. I don't mean to be rude - I know if we chose a different topic there's be plenty of choices I've made that I wouldn't even bother to try to justify. Still, $10K in one system...yeah, what. I could spend over $10K on just a single camera lens, but I know I'd be able to get something back from it, both from use and from resale if it came to that.
The main thrust of my arguments was meant to be that it seems hard to believe that somebody is really getting value out of a huge library of games, like in some of the other examples I posted: 4-5 games a week?! Especially in the case where games are constantly being released, it's hard not to believe that people buy good games, then play them for about two minutes before moving on to something else. Even accepting that sustains a backlog - and the Dreamcast did die soon enough - that seems a bit out there. No, this doesn't make me feel superior or anything, especially in light of my own X68000 game- and system-buying habits.
But at least you have to admit I'm right to giggle when I read the phrase "high end LEs."
That reminds me, I have a bunch of plastic shit in boxes of various sizes that I need to flog over in the trading station sometime.

Re: Xbone: OFFICIAL: No Renting, Private Sales, Loanig, Owni
No offense taken. And on the 4-5 games a week state ment, I'm usually not that active, unless the games are like 2-3 hour one shots. Think I normally averaged about 3-4 games a month over the past 7-8 years. Got to remember modern games are getting shorter and I don't do much MP. So give me a game that takes 8 hours to beat, and yeah, 2-3 days if I have nothing else to do.Ed Oscuro wrote:Word, brother. Looks to me like the point is the sony guys acting as if they are recalling the entire XBone debacle with a smirk/laugh, like "man, where to even begin" and the audience figures it out and gets into it.
Maybe.
Maybe.

They seem to have an army of marketing drones; Microsoft is doing the same on other platforms and forums. See here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=579641Ed Oscuro wrote:http://www.businessinsider.com/microsof ... nts-2013-6

Re: PS4 - Holiday 2013 Launch (Playstation4)
That's not really an answer and exactly what MS is telling us, it's left to the choice of the publishers, don't blame us !Friendly wrote:Haven't seen it mentioned here: A few days ago, Shuhei Yoshida officially stated that PS4 won't have used-game DRM and that it is left to publishers

Answer that SONY .
Re: PS4 - Holiday 2013 Launch (Playstation4)
We'll find out sooner or later. But we already know that PS4 will not require to be online AT ALL to play. So a DRM system like Microsoft's isn't possible.Casey120 wrote:That's not really an answer and exactly what MS is telling us, it's left to the choice of the publishers, don't blame us !Friendly wrote:Haven't seen it mentioned here: A few days ago, Shuhei Yoshida officially stated that PS4 won't have used-game DRM and that it is left to publishers

Re: PS4 - Holiday 2013 Launch (Playstation4)
Well, to be more precise, Sony isn't implementing a system that forces you to go online to play. But they haven't said that publishers can't implement such a system, as I've outlined before. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if some games implement online passes.
