again, nothing in the description says its a HDCP stripper, you're basically taking a gamble.

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
of course it doesn't SAY it in the description - what do you expect ? The one I linked to at monoprice is well known for it's capabilities. Works fine using a PS3 with a Blackmagic capture card.

Alright, nevermind then.BuckoA51 wrote:again, nothing in the description says its a HDCP stripper, you're basically taking a gamble.
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
Well if they can get away with the HDFury... I thought maybe there was somewhere in China or India that sold them? My point is if you take a gamble on importing a device like that only to find that newer models no longer strip HDCP you can't exactly send it back for not doing something it was never described as doing in the first placeof course it doesn't SAY it in the description - what do you expect ?

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
So that device has DVI in only?, so you would need a HDMI from the PS3 to DVI??, can you select a HDMI output for video and then Optical for audio on the PS3?

Yes, you definitely can.can you select a HDMI output for video and then Optical for audio on the PS3?

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
I have one of those 1x2 HDMI splitters that strips HDCP if you are interested. I have no use for it. PM me for details.
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
There are also some $20 HDMI splitters that remove HDCP, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F9LVXC (no guarantee that the current revision still removes HDCP)
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
Damn I actually have a matrix 4x2 HDMI splitter, I wonder if mine strips HDCP

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
Just saying, my latest revision ViewHD 4 way splitter does not.blizzz wrote:There are also some $20 HDMI splitters that remove HDCP, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F9LVXC (no guarantee that the current revision still removes HDCP)
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
Only the 1x2 mini splitter from ViewHD (and *some* other brands) ever removed HDCP. My main 4x2 matrix also doesn't remove HDCP.
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
I was looking at the Micomsoft driver download page and it got me thinking. Both the 500N1 and 510N1 share the same driver package so they may be using similar hardware. I think there might be a cheap and easy way to add composite and S-Video to the 500N1. As you can see the 510N1 uses this: http://micomsoft.co.jp/shop/img/shop_sc-512_04.jpg
This is the same retro adapter that the Elgato uses: http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m= ... cleid=4633
If we buy this then maybe we can select composite/s-video from the Amarec device settings and have the SC-500N1 with composite and s-video support. It's cheap so I will try this.

Shame theres just not a 1 to 1 device that just strips HDCP so you just plug a hdmi cable either end
Or would a HDMI to Component cable into my A/V amp and the the out from the Amp going to the capture card, would this bypass HDCP?
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
there is no such thing as a working HDMI to component "cable".
If you want straight HDMI in/out HDCP decryption you need a HDFury IV. Otherwise both the ViewHD and the Monoprice HDMI/DVI one are fine.

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
The only downside to the Monoprice box is it only accepts coax or Optical for audio in, audio that comes in over the DVI port with HDMI signaling is just dropped. That said, any console with an HDMI port also has an optical audio port. Get a cheap optical audio cable while you're on Monoprice, where they sell chinese cables by weight.Fudoh wrote:there is no such thing as a working HDMI to component "cable".

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
I've got the same bug on my Win8 machine. First I thought it was a problem with Skype, but it's because Skype tries to use the card as a webcam. Checked in AmarecTV and the CPU usage goes up to 100% whenever I activate the capture card. Kinda annoying.lettuce wrote:Can anyone tell me what usage there PC's CPU is at when loading up AmaRec program, i use Real Temp and its saying when ever AmaRec is in use that the CPU is at 100%!!!, but the status bar at the bottom of the AmaRec window reports only 21% cpu usage? Does anyone else get 100% cpu usage when using AmaRec?
I would have thought that as the StarTech/Micomsoft was a PCI device it should really use the PC CPU that much at all

I think it could be related to a CPU issue. What CPU do you have?blizzz wrote:I've got the same bug on my Win8 machine. As a follow up to my previous post, tried the Elgato retro adapter and S-Video works!

Hmmm, i was wondering if it was because i was on first Gen i7 920 chip (Bloomfield), but yours is recent. I wonder what yours and my system have in common that is causing this issue then?. I can this this becoming a major issue now the warmer weather is coming, for the CPU to be stressed at 100% all the time during captures. Glad im looking at getting a Haswell chip soon and compete new system so hopefully that will sort the problem
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
How much RAM do you guys have, and what kind of hard drives?
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
The problem isn't about recording, but activating the card. Even if Skype just checks to see what av equipment your PC has the CPU goes up to 100% (and sometimes stays there until I reset the Windows power settings, which resets the PCIe bus I guess).
Here's the hardware: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/345 ... ractal.png (PSU is "be quiet! Straight Power E9 500W ATX 2.31", not the one on the pic)

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
Ok i have just built a brand new PC, has a 4770k Haswell CPU (overclocked to 4.6Ghz), 16GB ram and HD7950 AMD GPU, and i am STILL getting this problem. As soon as AmaRec or VideoKeeper loads up basically anything that activate the StarTech card then the CPU jumps to 100% and the temps start to rise. As i have been Overclocking this CPU i have been using stress programs to test the overclock and the temps i got from these stress test programs is the same temps im getting now just having AmaRec open. Something is defiantly wrong here, the card should not push a CPU to 100% usage and case temps to rise. Im starting to wonder if these cards are faulty??blizzz wrote:I've got the same bug on my Win8 machine. Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
I've had mine in three other systems and they didn't show this problem. I don't have an open test system at the moment, so my solution until now is just to deactivate the card in the Windows device manager.lettuce wrote:Im starting to wonder if these cards are faulty??
When I have time I'll dig out my test hardware and check the card.
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
I just purchased this a few weeks ago, it stripped the HDCP just fine for my PS3.blizzz wrote:There are also some $20 HDMI splitters that remove HDCP, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F9LVXC (no guarantee that the current revision still removes HDCP)

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
So it was only one machine you gt this problem in?, and was the same card used in all systems? Do you have the StarTech or Micomsoft version blizzz?blizzz wrote:I've had mine in three other systems and they didn't show this problem. Just seems too much of a coincidence that this is a brand new system the only components I have carried over from my old system is my 2 SSD, SB X-Fi and this capture card. It's using all 4 cores as well not just a single core as soon as AmaRec or Video Keeper is loaded and I'm not even capturing anything at the time. Could it be that I'm using a full sized PCI-e slot for the card and not a mini PCI slot, maybe hyper threading on the i7 intel CPU etc?
Where are you based, did u have to use another adapter for this as its US 110v? Or can u get away without using mains power for it as all you want is it to strip the HDCP?shinjig wrote:I just purchased this a few weeks ago, it stripped the HDCP just fine for my PS3.blizzz wrote:There are also some $20 HDMI splitters that remove HDCP, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F9LVXC (no guarantee that the current revision still removes HDCP)

Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
I'm based in the US. So I'm not sure what power converter you'll need to get it to your specs in England.
Re: Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card
remove the sound blaster card and try again. Sounds very much like a hardware conflict to me.the only components I have carried over from my old system is my 2 SSD, SB X-Fi and this capture card
