I'll either assume you handpicked them for their blandness to try and cement your point, or simply haven't seen enough of the work.
My apologies for the lack of variety because I was unable to plough through so much tits and thighs before nausea took over me. But the point is that his work is as soulless and distasteful as the average H-artist/bottom of the barrel JRPG illustrator. And when people like this exist I find it difficult to give this guy a higher praise than "has some good grasp on anatomy".
As for the coloring, contrast is probably a better word than saturation. The forms in these two look great while these are flat as hell.
Why does this look so much better than the Saidaioujou art?
Lol, it's way worse. At least the recent characters didn't look like they got facebricked on their way back from a mud fight.
Also, Nagi is a girl

Looks like the cab they're preparing for the 5/5 event.
I kinda feel bad that they abandoned the ameblo blog. It had a pretty ballin' layout.

I find only slightly better that devianart artist you linked than Nagi Ryou or Tony Taka...

They are too focused on realism and their work doesn't looks too different from other artist. Certainly, having a good technique is important but putting it above personality and originality is more important than technique. People sometime define this as the charm of the charscters or then being "atractive". Some examples would be the artist from Disgaea, Joker-kun , even ZUN...

Tony Taka only has a good grasp of anatomy when he's tracing photos. When he's not, he's sloppy as hell. Also, Murata only has sameface syndrome when he's asked to draw moe stuff. Check his artbooks and you'll see he's superb at detailed, realistic and varied character faces. Probably would not draw that way for Cave, though!

I'm interested in trying the 1.5 version. Probably won't touch Saya mode at all.

I think we can all agree that Tomoyuki:Kotani is the best artist CAVE has ever had

What did he do? Mushihimesama? That stuff looks awful as well. I guess the  indicates sarcasm (I hope)

He did Mushihimesama, Ibara, and Pink Sweets.

Mushihimesama has pretty wonky artwork, strange anatomy everywhere. Haccan was an improvement in Futari. TK did much better in Ibara and Pink Sweets. I still prefer current Masaki Hirooka over both of them though.

Ibara and PS are a bit better than Mushi, imo. Not much though, and I would file that style as total Hyung Tae Kim ripoff, and that guy is awful as well.

Kotani draws nothing like HTK. They both have awful taste in fashion, though.

He does the same weird desaturated shadows stuff like HTK as well. And horribad anatomy.
Also highlights all over the joint, but that is more of a general manga thing than HTK.

They still look extremely different. HTK's anatomy is much more exaggerated, and by PS Kotani improved a lot in that department.

Yeah, you are right on closer inspection. I would not call HTKs anatomy exaggerated, that implies that he knows anatomy well enough to effectively exaggerate it. I would say most of his stuff looks fudge as hell. Tho he got somewhat better too over the years. I guess if you draw a lot it is hard not to eventually improve at least a bit.

Do you really think anatomy is that important? Specially in art...

I don't even know what you are trying to say, really.

Seriously, yes it is. All the characters in any Cave game ever are supposed to be humans, no? And if you draw a human they should either have correct anatomy or anatomy which is clearly stylised, as opposed to fudged and bad. Bad anatomy also brings things into the uncanny valley. Again if you are going for that, cool. But it should be clear. The character art in Mushihimesama certainly does not go for that and just looks like she poor Reco is deformed and broken.

Style should go over anatomy specially in mass media like comics or manga. I find Reco in Mushi as well as Ibara/Pink Sweets chars interesting because they appeal not to perfection, for that we already have painters that do portraits. What really brings out an artist spirit is his capacity to innovate and amuse with good taste. And althoug Reco is not perfectly depicted, her design is interesting and beautiful.

My point is, there is nothing bad about anatomy as long as it's original and interesting. There is reason why ZUNart has become popular and even reverenced.

Style should never go over substance, and style comes with practise naturally, and is not something you work on actively in general. And the best way to improve in art is to draw from nature, which also involved anatomy. So I guess we can just agree to disagree here, if you do not concede this point, and not further derail this thread.

That's THE question to ask here indeed. And you gave the imho right answer yourself:

Yes, we have a disagreement here. And I agree we disagree.
Btw, the somewhat famous MichelAngelo also took some liberties depicting human bodies...
It was noted but he still has his share of followers i guess...

I'd still do her though. :P

I've already sent a PM to Ptoing to continue the debate there but if more people are interested in debating this I'd be grateful if someone did a new topic in off-topic since I'm on the PSP and it's difficult for me.

Another interview with Dengeki Online from 4月10日 but it doesn't seem like there's much different content from the Famitsu interview.

I'm proud to admit that I've never heard the English voices in TWN. The very first thing I did when I got the game was switch the voices to Japanese, and the setting hasn't been changed since.

Are preorders for this sold out or something? I was going to preorder the LE on Amazon but there aren't any available directly from them, only a few on the marketplace for like 12,000 yen and the SLE is totally unavailable. Is there somewhere else I should be preordering from? For that matter for those living in Japan can I just preorder it at Geos or Tsutaya?

That's too bad. It makes me nostalgic for back when all English voice acting in games was just goofy.
