Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
Hey guys, so is it true that stage 5 of Daifukkatsu is actually a Daifukkatsu PCB!? Like, you're flying over a properly mapped PCB?

Interesting. One bit certainly looks like a PCB.

Re: Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
No, not even close.
It just partly looks like a PCB, that's all.

Man, that's awesome. Never noticed that section was PCB styled.

Fitting with the theme of Daifukkatsu bosses, it's what the PCB would look like if it transformed into Mega Maid. That also explains the laser trap section, she goes from suck to blow.

Most of us, including myself, have only seen the stage during the game and with all the action happening on the screen it would be difficult to notice thatptoing wrote:Skykid wrote:Never noticed that section was PCB styled. As an artist, these statements make me sad.Keres wrote:Wow, I never noticed that before.

This makes even more an awesome an stage that already is, I wanna play DFK now to see it live.
Re: Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
Quite oddly I noticed that when watching a video of DFK but always forgot about it when I played the game.
Nice touch anyway CAVE.

Yeah I can see the only seeing it during gameplay argument. And I am very well aware that I have a much higher attention to detail than most people. Still sad as an artist to see a lot of work going into something and then most players wont even notice it consciously.O. Too many dick lasers onscreen to even bother paying attention to the background.
lol
Re: Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
I have to say I just noticed, this game has got to have the craziest experiments in scrolling there ever were, does Espgaluda get madder than this or?

DFK has the most extreme direction changes and similar things as far as scrolling goes among Cave games. Espgaluda 2 is quite straightforward.
The 4th hidden boss in DFK also has pretty cool stuff going on with the background. Basically the way it is draw simulates something like a steep rise and then a barrel roll.

Yeah, that one's always really impressed me when I paid attention to it. It makes your perspective change smoothly as you climb up towards the sun, then do a hard bank towards the ground as you fight the boss.ptoing wrote:The 4th hidden boss in DFK also has pretty cool stuff going on with the background. Yep, noticed that, similar tricks in Espgaluda 2, though the first place I saw this was Street Fighter 3 in some backgrounds that try to convince you the perspective is changing and it's not just scrolling when you jump: http://zweifuss.ca/SFIIIBG/sean02.pngptoing wrote:DFK has the most extreme direction changes and similar things as far as scrolling goes among Cave games. You don't think Goo-wang is worse? The all-over-the-place direction of Goo-wang takes that trophy surely? Game is absurdly hard as well... even without the boxy direction changes.ptoing wrote:DFK has the most extreme direction changes and similar things as far as scrolling goes among Cave games. To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.

I have looked at the levels in Guwange very closely, and no, they are not as loopy as the stuff in DFK.

Re: Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
Actually, when I played it this weekend on a cab I remember thinking I sort of thought the structures resembled capacitors for some reason, I hadn't really noticed that segment was going for a definite PCB-esque style reference until I looked at the map though.
Moreso than other shmup stages, the laser wheels are a huge distraction because of how much of the screen they take up, and how you can't kill them in 1.5 meaning you have to absolutely focus on the foreground there, there's no breaks in the action like in Futari where you get a few breathers midstage when you kill bullet cancel enemies. Once the laser wheels show up, it's pure madness.
Speaking of references, are these guys in Stage 4 supposed to be a reference to Futari Maniac's moths in Stage 4? Their bullet patterns in maniac seem to be very similar to the DFK enemies. Looking again, it might just be me though, both their openers have fixed spreads and lines of bullets fired through the spreads, so it might be that that's giving me deja vu.

Re: Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
You don't recognize them from Dodonpachi...? I'll just say that there are lots of enemy "archetypes" and that cave games are pretty similar in their general design "motif". The stage 4 enemies (yes, from both games) are a part of that.
Re: Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
I hate the fucking laserwheels. That being said, is there any mode in which you can kill them? I don't think you can in BL or any other mode for that matter.BareknuckleRoo wrote:the laser wheels [...] you can't kill them in 1.5
And yeah that enemy in stage 4 is the midboss from level 1 in DDP. DFK recycles shitloads of sprites from DDP.

Actually, the laser wheels can be killed in Arrange A. They die surprisingly quickly. Not sure about other modes though.
Re: Daifukkatsu stage 5 is a DFK PCB!?
Ah, never played Arrange A much, should give it a proper go sometime. Being able to kill those fuckers would make things a lot easier overall.
