GameCube RGBs and DVDO VP-30

Post by flip »

Hi you tech wizards :D

I got a DVDO iScan VP-30 a few weeks ago and by now got all of my consoles (a variety of Japanese and PAL consoles) to work - except my PAL GameCube. All my consoles are hooked up using RGB SCART into a switchbox. From the switchbox I use a self-built breakout cable into the RGB + Sync component connectors of the VP-30.

For the GameCube I use the official RGB cable that Nintendo sold in Europe. You can see the schematic here: http://members.optusnet.com.au/eviltim/ ... m#gamecube
When I start the GameCube, I get an extremely dark image on the boot menu with heavy static noise. On my CRT TV the cable works just fine. I find that rather puzzling. One thing I noticed is that it's my only SCART plug that only has a few pins (all the important ones, obviously), thus missing several ground pins. But would this really explain a dark image with heavy noise in both sound and video?

missing gnd could be the cause. You would have to check WHICH gnd pins your switch box or adapter cables forward to the VP30 and which ones the Cube cable uses.

Easy test: open the Cube cable and it use it this way. Just add a wire from a GND pin you know is connected to the VP30's GND inputs (outside the cinch connectors). No need to solder.

Sure enough it was a GND problem. I linked all the GND pins in the SCART plug and now the Gamecube with its funky RGB cable is working too. Thanks!
