The best "New" PS2 Shmup.
Mind you, I was initially going to go buy a special Controller Adapter for my PC so that I could play my PC games with my PS2 controllers, but then I saw Raiden III, Mushihimesama, Gigawing Generations, Psyvariar 2 Ultimate Final, Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou, etc. etc. all sitting nice and comfy on Lik-Sang.
I know there's a database out there for Shmups and whathaveyou, but I'm going for a number of factors here:
Powerup Diversity
Bumpin' Music
Overall Fun Blowing Stuff Up
Maaaaybe a little extra post-game stuff.
I honestly don't really care about difficulty, as I've played the likes of/own Gradius V, Ikaruga, Shikigami no Shiro 2, I just want something new, fun, and well...something Japanese-ish to play, heh.

The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

All of Cave's PS2 offerings fall very neatly into these categories.Blade wrote: Bumpin' Music

Perhaps give Mushihimesama a try... all up that seems to be the biggest PS2 crowd pleaser among recent releases since Gradius V.Blade wrote:I've played the likes of/own Gradius V, Ikaruga, Shikigami no Shiro 2, I just want something new, fun, and well...something Japanese-ish to play, heh.

Well, to those of you who weren't listening, I said I HAVE Gradius V
So I decided I'm getting Raiden III, since DDP wasn't available, and the likes of Mushihimesama and ESPGaluda seem..."too cute" for my taste.

Good choice on Raiden III, but you're comments of ESPGaluda and Mushi are... wow. You're definately going to be missing out on some serious amounts of fun if you never get, basing your decision on the artwork.Blade wrote:

Not buying Espgaluda because you think it looks "too cute" would be a loss. It's definitely a great game if not the best shmup on the PS2. I mean, just last week I went into Hey arcade and there was a line for Espgaluda nearly the whole time I was there and I didn't see one person, other than myself, sit down to play Raiden III.

Yep . . .good choice mate. That's the one I would have recommended. It's more traditional and "old school" than the others mentioned, but is all the better for it IMHO.
Still, I suppose for somebody who played Raiden II to death on the PSX, I'm not TOO biased . . .ehhhh ????
Shoot, dodge, collect . . .it's the ONLY way to be !!

Not really - it's just hard. A hard sequel to DDP backed up with an absolutely fascist chaining system, designed purely for hardcore Cave fans and absolutely nobody else. Espgaluda is a better game overall.NTSC-J wrote:DOJ is worth more than all the other PS2 shooters put together.

I just picked up Gradius V based on all the great reviews here on the forum. And I must say... fantastic. What a great piece of work this is. It seems that choice games are getting to be more and more scarce and this is one of the great ones. It's funny how most of the great games get no attention from the masses.
