would there be any chance of an IBARA home-port??
would there be any chance of an IBARA home-port??
I mean, espgaluda and mushi got a nice Ps2 port.
There must have been high demand for such ports/ or they did really
well in the arcades so cave thought a port would be reasonable.
I've heard that Ibara came in 10th in the november arcade ranking in Arcadia magazine. It was the only shooter on the list.
Anyway, since the most recent(mushi /galuda) cave shooters got a home port, could we looking forward to cave continuing to release home-ports?

Wasn't there prior mention of Cave skipping Ibara in favour of porting ESPGaluda II to PS2?lazydazy wrote:I mean, espgaluda and mushi got a nice Ps2 port.

Was Ibara the same hardware as Mushi?

Well... You have to wonder how difficult it would actually be to port Ibara given the groundwork already laid by Mushi. I don't know what is involved in a port after the code is done, apart from small stuff like title screens so on. If it wasn't too much of a huge effort, maybe they'd do it to recoup some of the lost revenue from the games poor sales. Probably wishful thinking, but I can't really afford to be buying more PCBs at the moment, and a port is the only way I'll get to play Ibara.

Haven't we been through the whole Ketsui arguement before?GaijinPunch wrote:Apparently a lot more than most people think.... otherwise we'd have seen Ketsui on the PS2 by now.bloodflowers wrote: I don't know what is involved in a port after the code is done,
Mihara already stated that a near-perfect straight port could be done to the PS2 tomorrow (you know, give or take....). But he wants to do considerably more than a straight port... so much more that a new mode which he wants to implement can't be handled by the PS2. That's why we don't have Ketsui on PS2.
The port of the main game isn't the issue, it's the added value for Japanese gamers that is.

Yeah, but these modes (not Arrange/Death Label, but replays and restarting w/o a complete boot) were possible w/ DOJ and ESPGaluda which is the same HW as Ketsui. That's all I'm saying. Just b/c it's the same HW doesn't mean it's a peace of piss. Mihara said this very clearly. The port of the main game isn't the issue, it's the added value for Japanese gamers that is.

Well, the PS2 is a piece of shit, especially when it comes to 2-D sprite graphics. Hell, it makes me wonder why Cave is going with PS2 when the Dreamcast is still alive and kicking.........PsikyoPshumpPshooterP wrote:oh what a tease

Because the PS2 seems actually quite good at doing sprite graphics, lots of people own them, and the Dreamcast is dead, with a pretty poor collection of shmups in comparison. It's not that difficult to work out.Zweihander wrote:Well, the PS2 is a piece of shit, especially when it comes to 2-D sprite graphics. Come to Japan and look at any given store's PS2 section, then try to find the DC section. I think it will become pretty obvious then.
Well, if Taito or Arika don't pick up on Ibara (wouldn't surprise me), there's always Atlus... aww who am I kidding. The only current gen shmups the published was that Gunbird compilation. What happened to the old Atlus that would publish Cave titles. Shmups > niche RPG's anyday Atlus of Japan!!!

Atlus and Cave did break their relationship long ago, hence ports of Esprade, Guwange and Feveron never appeared nor have real options to appear some day.
I'm saying it since day one, much like I did with Mushi, that Ibara will eventually get a home port. The Rose Garden is pure mass marketness. If the game had been a complete fiasco, Ibara 2 wouldn't be in development.

The development of Ibara II may have started before Ibara was commercially released. If there is an Ibara II, I am not looking forward to it.
I think the odds of a home port are really bad. The price dropped dramatically after it was first released. There is also not much discussion about the game on the 2ch boards. I guess we will wait and see what happens.

Ibara doesn't seem to have too broad of an appeal to me...not like Mushihime with it's separate modes to please everyone.

From a technical stand point, I think all that matters is CPU speed for sprite rendering. Since the ps2 is probably a bit more powerful (300 mHz RISC) than the DC (200 mHz RISC), it should be more capable for sprites. However, even more important than the hardware is the efficiency of the game code. Since optimization is really hard, perhaps not all ps2 games are created equal. Overall, the ps2 should very capable of handling sprites. I don't understand how people can't let go of the DC. Yes, the DC had a great run and I still frequently play it, but for new games it's life is over. It's time to move on.
Back on topic...I would like to see an Ibara port. I think a port of any shmup should be welcomed... Especially, a good port (and a port of a Cave game)! I also enjoy battle garrega quite a bit, so I imagine I'd like Ibara.

You don't know that it didn't start before the first Ibara was commercially available, nor that it's anywhere passed the "being announced" phase...that's what Valgar was saying, and he's right. For all anyone knows, it's been dropped due to the fact that nobody is playing it.I already did, thoe.
In reality, they more than likely had some type of plan of Ibara 2 before Ibara was released. Ibara came out in late June. 2 was first spilled a couple of months later in their financial report. What's even more likely is that they said, "we need more sequels, so we'll make games that we can easily make sequels to". Viola - Ibara and Ibara 2. Planned from the beginning.

Even if they could port it, the demand for it is probably quite low. I can't imagine demand for Ibara spiking sharply if a port is announced (although the thought of playing it at home might sway some of those sat on the fence previously).
And even if a port is considered, by the time it is announced, the PCB would be cheap enough for most PCB consumers (guys who would be willing and able to splash for it) to pick up, given the fast drop in price.
I think there's more demand for Espgaluda 2 at the moment. Which is a pity, really.

No, listen to Recap.
