I'd guess a demo that doesn't scare the crap out of new customers would be a good start. Mercilessly annihilating newbies who don't know how to use counter-attacks effectively, 5 seconds into the first demo level, isn't exactly a good way to get them to buy the game.bcass wrote: Let's hope for better sales from RSG and GH otherwise I doubt we'll be seeing any more Treasure games on XBLA.

Re: Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury
When this first came out I had downloaded the demo and was kind of put off. I had loved the DC version, but never played the DS version with the extra abilities. The way the game threw you into a few brutal levels was off-putting. So I didn't buy it at the time but figured I'd check back in the future.
Tried the demo again tonight, figuring I'd read the controls very carefully and try harder. Turns out there was an update back in September! Yeah, so it helps a little more, now with 5 tutorial levels and apparently some full-game stuff too.
Found an old story listing the improvements:

I figure this is way too late to effect sales at this point, which is a shame since I loved the original and was hoping this would do well.
Sounds like when it came out sales weren't great: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/3494 ... y_2011.php
Here's to Treasure giving better (but still optional) tutorials in the future, I suppose.

Making an action platformer with a transforming grappling hook: ChainStaff. Also made a shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, and more .

Re: Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury
Did anyone from here actually make levels for this with the level editor? Liked the game, pretty sad if people never got to making their own stuff.
Re: Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury
I'm trying to decide whether or not to get this when I get my Xbox for Christmas. Other XBLA games I'm interested in are Pac-Man Champion Edition DX, 'Spolsion Man, Super Meat Boy, Pinball FX 2, Guwange, Radiant Silvergun, Guardian Heroes, the Game Room, Strania, Daytona, After Burner Climax, and Castle Crashers.
Re: Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury
Apparently almost no one did.Zaarock wrote:Did anyone from here actually make levels for this with the level editor? Liked the game, pretty sad if people never got to making their own stuff.
The DS Bangai-O had a real advantage on this front with its touch screen, as well as the fact that stages could be freely and easily distributed through sound files. There's no way of downloading stages in Missile Fury without a listed friend who has some.
Treasure should have accepted submissions and hosted a "custom stage of the day/week" kind of deal, like Nintendo had with Smash Bros. Brawl.

Whats the point of having a stage creator in the first place if other people cant play them?Estebang wrote:Apparently almost no one did.Zaarock wrote:Did anyone from here actually make levels for this with the level editor? Liked the game, pretty sad if people never got to making their own stuff.

This has worked OK with something like N+ and more notably Trials HD (the most popular XBLA game?), people left a couple friend slots open for map/track sharing. I think the only XBLA game with a free map sharing system is Lode Runner, which is pretty ambitious but I don't think it was ever popular.AntiFritz wrote:Whats the point of having a stage creator in the first place if other people cant play them?

I guess letting people distribute this sort of content within a circle of pals rather than worldwide is safer from the publisher's point of view (lower risk of lawsuits in supposed copyright infringement cases).Whats the point of having a stage creator in the first place if other people cant play them?

Sega got it right with ChuChu Rocket on the Sega Dreamcast. You could upload/download other players levels. It had dedicated servers.Zaarock wrote:This has worked OK with something like N+ and more notably Trials HD (the most popular XBLA game?), people left a couple friend slots open for map/track sharing. Is it alright if I resurrect this thread from the dead? I hope so.
trying to speedrun this game, and:
I'll be damned if I can figure out what makes Stage 10 tick. It's two spawners, one spawning a max life and the other spawning some enemies. They're both on 3 second timers or so. I'm pretty sure the stage ends by killing everything simultaneously, but I'll be damned if I can figure out a consistent strat to do so.

Re: Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury
I think you're supposed to use EX attack with missiles, though reflect works too apparently. It's a strange level for sure.. have you been trying to copy what the top times on the leaderboard do? all the top times are less than two seconds and the level ends right after they do an EX attack on the first three enemies.Reed wrote:Is it alright if I resurrect this thread from the dead? Are you going to be recording your speedrun attempts or such? cool to see someone trying to run this.
Just played the game a bit again recently because I've been on sort of a treasure kick.
