This startech cable has the wrong bnc connection type doesn't it?....

Shame as its a nice short cable, the shortest I can find otherwise is 1.8 meter

Found a BVM-D20F1U locally and I want to test it...but I'm not sure how to get a 240p signal to it from my stock consoles. If I wanted to hook up a NTSC SNES or a PS2 (assuming no RGB because of stock console) what do I need to do? I have composite, s-video, and component cables currently.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Ah, I see what you mean now.Fudoh wrote:right, of course. But the TVL are spec'ed for the middle of the screen only, so with a 700 TVL rating you still hardly reach the 1280 lines over the full width of the tube. Anyway, 720p is the way to go!
Depends on the input boards the monitor has. You can get some bnc to rca adapters at radio shack. You can just try composite to test (if available), and/or use a component cable for PS2 (Wii, etc.) to test the higher resolutions.hakujin wrote:Found a BVM-D20F1U locally and I want to test it...but I'm not sure how to get a 240p signal to it from my stock consoles. A series was 4:3 14 and 20, 16:9 24 and 32.Fudoh wrote:D14 and D20 - those are the only ones. A series was only available in 16:9.
See the Guilty Gear pics I posted a few posts up =)panzeroceania wrote:Fudoh, what would you say would be the best 31khz 480p capable CRTs you've seen are?
Actually, There are probably quite a few high end Sony, Viewsonic, etc. PC CRT monitors that have great pictures.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
The PS2 outputs both RGB and YUV and the SNES outputs RGB. Either use the component from the PS2 and buy some BNC adapters or buy an RGB SCART cable for the SNES and convert that to BNC. Easy to sort.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Hello, savvy people, I have discovered this Sony PVM for sale casually near my home:
http://www.ebay.it/itm/271162868235?_tr ... 926wt_1186
Is it good? I am quite a newbie of this PVM/BVM world.
Price seems more than reasonable, what can I do to test it before buying? I have s-video and component cables and obviously composite (and scart rgb but those wouldn't be useful If I'm not wrong) for ps1, ps2 and gamecube, which are the consoles I would be interested in using on the monitor.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

See the previous two posts for info. Buy 3 female RCA to BNC adapters and use your ps2 with the component cable.FabriZed wrote:what can I do to test it before buying? Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
When using a good quality CRT (PVM etc.) how much jitter, if any, would one expect to see on a 240p image?
I was correcting the geometry on mine, so I was right up close to the screen, and noticed a certain amount of E/W jitter along the edges of vertical lines (not visible from my normal viewing position).
My OCD side now wants to know if this is normal, or something 'wrong' that I can correct.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I'm not sure I noticed any on my BVM..... can't remember with regard to the PVM. Regardless from normal viewing distances a normal consumer TV CRT shouldn't pose any issues imo.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I get a tiny amount of north south jitter with 240p content on my BVM. I don't think it is much of an issue.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Made a video comparison of my 2044QM and 1454qm

watch in 720p.
I'll upload a comparison with the 240p test suite for megadrive/genesis running on Wii, and another with Sonic 1.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
My 14" PVM's picture is rock solid even if you stick the old eyeball right up onto the screen. I'd reckon jitter is more a question of source than display.

You lazy arsed cheapskate *******!!!!!
You spend the time and money to buy a device like this, yet you won't "buy" an on-line available manual for a couple of $'s to give you the information you need.
PM me your email address and I'll send you the pdf................................. you cheap arsed tramp!

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
ACC = auto colour correction, I think it measures the screen voltages and keeps them in check so the picture stays looking the same, similar to the beam current white balance thing, thats what the red green and blue bars in underscan/16:9 mode are for.
Enter service menu = press menu, then press degauss and enter at the same time.
Blue only/reset restores the saved setting, degauss writes a new setting.
Factory reset = in service menu hold reset until it says 'factory' then degauss.

V Linearity is best adjusted on a grid pattern with circles, the idea is to get all the squares the same size, and the circles round rather than egg shaped. You might have to redo V Centre afterwards.
Pin cusion, pin phase lower pin cusion, vbow, lower v bow should be the only settings you need to use geometry wise.
The service menu for that pvm is available free on elektrotanya http://elektrotanya.com/sony_pvm-20m2_2 ... nload.html

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
It is a good deal, but when one factors in the logistics of transporting and storing so many 20" pro CRT's it becomes evident that this deal is above the reach of most people.
It must be tempting to win with a low bid, show up and pick up three of the PVM's in best shape and run for the hills leaving them to deal with the rest.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
just picked up a sony pvm 20l5 which can output 480p. what's the best way to get dreamcast vga into this thing? do i need a vga to component transcoder?
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
You mean it accepts 480p input. Maybe it can do the other but that's not what you want.cyborc wrote:just picked up a sony pvm 20l5 which can output 480p.
Did you find the monitor's manual online? I know somebody will pop in here with the answer but having the manual is really handy.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Didn't somebody mention that a t-connector is enough to get RGBHV running on the 480p sets ? Or was 480p input limited to YPbPr ?
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
i'll order one and give it a try, thanks.Fudoh wrote:Didn't somebody mention that a t-connector is enough to get RGBHV running on the 480p sets ? Or was 480p input limited to YPbPr ?
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
That was me, and yeah 480p works for RGB and component. I have managed to get RGB 480p to work using a T-connector.Fudoh wrote:Didn't somebody mention that a t-connector is enough to get RGBHV running on the 480p sets ? Or was 480p input limited to YPbPr ?
