I'll define a bad game as one with usually negative (<50%) ratings. This game may be more of a black sheep than an actual bad game but I'm a huge fan of Phantasy Star III, even if it doesn't match the heights set by its brethren. I also think the home version of Street Fighter: The Movie (AKA Real Battle on Film) has one of the best fighting game engines around.

In general, I have a high tolerance for 2D fighters. I enjoy playing Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon fighters, even Final Bout and the 3DO version respectively. Double Dragon V is probably my favorite installment in the series. And I don't even mind playing classically lampooned fighters such as Rise 2: Resurrection and Slaughter Sport. No Shaq-Fu though; even I have my limits.

Some of my inexplicable interests in games of other genres that were poorly received are the Hydlide series, Iron Man/X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal, Quest 64, and Revolution X. They're not among my favorite games but I do have fun playing them.

Street Fighter. Love the chunky visuals, scratchy speech and find it intriguing to play. It's just not much cop.

The SMS port of Space Gun. It's terrible, but it's really tough to screw up "point and shoot" so much that it's not even a little fun.

I like this one also. It's really bad but I played it a lot. Primal Rage is probably considered to be bad. I like it.

Some bad NES/FC games like Dragon Power and Super Pitfall have their own little charm.

SNES TF is actually rather good. The Genesis version is total crap though.

Nah, that game is totally radical dude! I still play it sometimes. The team at Konami that made the SNES version should have made more fighting games.

Yeah, the SNES version of TMNT Tournament Fighters is actually one of the highest rated and competitively playable fighting games on the system despite its cult status. I'm a big fan of the Genesis version too (mostly the exotic aesthetics although the cheesy and strict mechanics are a plus too) but public reactions are a lot more mixed there.

Well sweet! I'm glad you guys are on the same wavelength. I think the game was great, but I know a lot of folks who claim to be fighting-game aficionados and tend to remark TF as being just another SF2 hack. But that's crap, 'cause I consider myself just as hardcore as the next fighting game fan.

Ok TF is off the table. :)

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Well... I dont get the hate people give this game, I love it, although the game gets stale pretty fast. Play it with a friend, the fun permutations are endless.

Bwings
Okay, horrible graphics, lack of any story other than it being a generic 1980s shmup, but I loved it as a kid, and love it even today.

Tomb Raider: Chronicles
Albeit the most bugged of the entire series, followed closely by Angel of Darkness, if you know how to avoid the avoidable ones, the adventure is thrilling.

Chocobo Racing
Yeah, so what if its some kart racing wannabe game, it was enjoyable at the very least. Still have it till this day, ain't gonna let it go.

Deathsmiles II
Hit or miss. Some love it, some hate it, others crticise the design, the remainders think its better off 2D. Me? It's a game I like playing.
This is my signature. It's so unique, nobody else has it.

Get the picture?

I do not comprehend the question. If game, as a form of entertainment, is entertaining, isn't it by definition a good game?

No. There are games/movies/whatever that are so shittily put together that you wouldn't recommend to any friend you want to keep. And yet, you keep coming back to them. There's just *something* about them that is good, even though the game could've been much, much better. And often the reason is just personal: It came out at the right time for you, or it's part of a genre that you can't get enough of, or maybe the game sucks but you just like the art.

Of course, this is occasionally true of games that have mainstream acceptance, too, so it's definitely not a strict rule.

Earnest Evans I love more than a ton of respected sidescrollers. Kinda surprised this hasn't been mentioned (I don't think). It's a loveable game.
Mutant Fighter is probably pretty bad, but it's so good.
Battle Monsters!
Virtual Hydlide.
4D Warriors is probably bad but I don't care.
Igmo.
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

I could go on for a long while if I started a list like this...well, I'll just mention one -

Counter-Strike: Condition Zero: DELETED SCENES

"Damn rats, they keep making a racket!"

And then Ritual started making puzzle games.

These are solid choices. I completely understand E.E. (although it's a bit short for my liking) and 4D Warriors (odd game but love the different ideas in it).

Excluding those friends found because they also somehow put up with the bad games. It can be annoying to have "tolerance for low quality games because you are poor / don't care to try other things" get in the way of that kind of gaming bro-ness though.

Sonic and the Secret Rings. I fiended on it. I actually genuinely adore that game even if the gameplay style is stupid. The level design, art style, UPGRADES, enemies, and just the concept in general were pretty novel. Even some of the mini games like that stupid carpet snatching thing was great. And the gameplay style may have been dumb, but for that game (fuck Black Knight in every hole, that game SUCKS) it worked. Had a lot of unlockable content which is something I miss in games especially since you actually had to work for it all. Beat records, hidden missions, find stuff in hard to reach areas level up and just all the awesome abilities. I do wish it accepted alternate controllers, but I wish that for all motion based games.

And that music was awesome. I loved the song to...I think it was called Evil Foundry the most. Just a great score.
The only "legit bad" Sonic game I like. First Wii game with Excite Truck. Very fond memories. I'll always keep that one.

Night Palace from Sonic and the Secret Rings is one of the most memorable stages from the 3D games. I would have liked to see it in Generations.

So, how many people here like Riding Hero? Only me, probably :)

There was a time I was interested in Superbike games. I was looking for games on MAME other than Hang-On and found this one. Compared to Hang-On, it's much easier to play on a keyboard. The game is frustrating at first - you get hit all the time by racers coming from behind - but once you learn how to dodge them the game is kinda fun. A big plus is that the tracks are based on real ones. First stage is Suzuka, for example.

I actually got pretty far on a single credit, reached stage 7 or 8 before making a mistake on the last corner and dropping to last. Instant game over.

Afterwards I went online to check strategies and stuff about the game and learned that it's universally hated, lol. Story mode is a credit-muncher but Grand Prix mode is where it's at.
