Favorite Bad Video Games
I used to be obsessed with Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi. I spent so much time on that game. I even owned Tekken 3 at the time and I still played it. I really want to find another copy.
So did/do you have any video games that you really enjoyed even though it was bad game?

Master of Weapon, via Taito Memories. Game gets slammed by many people, for me it's a guilty pleasure.

Mortal Kombat: Mythologies Sub-Zero, I could probably play it blind-folded.

I've never heard of it before. It doesn't look that bad to me. It just looks like an updated Xevious to me. Will check out.Bloodreign wrote:Master of Weapon, via Taito Memories. Game gets slammed by many people, for me it's a guilty pleasure.
Re: Favorite Bad Video Games

I don't play many bad games but I am an avid reader of BBH's site, the man is a doctor of bad games.

Kaneko's fighters, Blood Warrior and Jackie Chan in Fists of Fire, are always a good source of laughs and fun times. They look hilariously awful and are broken as fuck but they are very fun to play, especially Jackie Chan which actually does some interesting things (like having a 30 second timer and high damage, making for very fast and exciting matches).

I had a strange fixation with The Getaway, because I could drive around London murdering people.

LB2 is a buggy broken mess of a game. Japanese tournaments have a huge list of banned stuff. It's very pretty and with some polish it could have been good, but as it stands it's not really worth playing in a serious way.Khan wrote:LB2? eh? EH!? Ultraman Towards The Future for SNES. There's a certain pleasure in managing to pwn the game even with the broken mechanics.

Re: Favorite Bad Video Games
Wizardry I. It's honestly not a very good RPG; later entries in the series as early as III were far more polished (mostly due to level design). The main issue that is if you want to level up a party to any sort of decent level, you either use save scumming to avoid any instant death attacks that might kill your members, or simply grind on the Murphy's Ghosts on level 1 until you're high enough level to beat the game (as level 1 is the only place where there are no enemies that can decapitate you, Madi you, etc).
I also really liked Iridion 3D. Music and graphics were great, and it was pretty unique for the GBA, but the collision detection is so wonky that you have to seriously memorize the game in order to clear it, especially on Hard.

Played that game a lot, I think I beat story mode with all characters. My favorite was Han Solo and his infinite homing missiles. My copy is still sitting here (not for sale, sorry).MOSQUITO FIGHTER wrote:I used to be obsessed with Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi. I spent so much time on that game. On topic, people made fun of me when I mentioned I liked Time Traveller (even 1cc'd the game back in the day) and that Hokuto no Ken game for the Mega Drive. I'm sure there are other stinkers I like but I don't recall any more right now.
Re: Favorite Bad Video Games
I honestly like Spelunker, the legendary shitgame. It's not even a "so bad it's good"-thing, I just think it's fun how the game takes the rules players have learned about platformers over the years (falling doesn't hurt you, etc) and tosses them out the window. It forces the player to learn a different style of playing.
A very, very careful style of playing.

I'll second Guardians of the Hood. And Back to the Future 3 for Genesis. Game ruined my life. I don't know how many times I heard Ghost Riders in the Sky when that game could come out. I don't think I ever beat the first level.

I absolutely love Spelunker, but only because I played the PS3 remake beforehand and learned all its unique mechanics. If I had jumped into the original in the dark, no doubt I'd think it's crap.Ghegs wrote:I honestly like Spelunker, the legendary shitgame. Sonic Heroes for the Gamecube. I play it now and still like it but wonder why. In my defense, at least it is orders of magnitude better than Sonic 06.

In LB2 you must use all of this infinites for do something. I like this game, but i know is totally broken. By the way, some glitches are funny and not banned, like "moriya`s teleport glitch".

I love Shadow the hedgehog, but the world seems to condemn it for being unplayable garbage. It's not perfect, but it's damn well more fun 70% of the time than any 3D Sonic game before it.

I'll have to go with two games from my youth that I enjoy for pure nostalgia: Platoon and Back to the Future for NES.

Thirding that Spelunker is not so horrible.

I also have an affection for crappy single-player fighting games! Rise of the Robots is another, and the SNES version is somewhat playable.Leandro wrote:Batman Forever
The original C64 version of Platoon is significantly better. You actually have a platoon.Acid King wrote:Platoon and Back to the Future for NES.

Amiga games.
I really like that version of Test Drive II. It's not a good racing game by any stretch, and it's very choppy, but I really like the roadtrip aspect of it. And, it was one of the first games with distinct sports cars you could drive. There's The Great American Cross-Country Road Race, too, which is basically like Enduro with more strategy and variety.
EDIT: And Sonic Adventure 1. It's bad, but it's still fun every now and then.

Not sure it counts as bad, but Storm Blade is so resolutely uninspired it surprised me how much I got into it. Maybe it's just the thrill of being able to consistently get into the second loop...

Some day I'm going to hook up a giant Pop'n Music button to all three buttons on Pit Fighter, and label that button with a giant sticker that reads DEATH.

Re: Favorite Bad Video Games
At least the game stops registering damage after a certain number of hits, but jeez. It should stop collision for a bit after that, etc, etc. There's a bunch of ways to avert infinites, but christ, those look worse than fucking Rage of the Dragons [which is my favorite "bad" game]. I didn't think I'd see an infinite that was dumber than Alice's in ROTD.Hagane wrote:LB2 is a buggy broken mess of a game. Japanese tournaments have a huge list of banned stuff. Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Re: Favorite Bad Video Games
I had no idea LB2 was that broken since I'm not very good at fighting games. Well, I guess I'll add that one to my list too
For relatively-casual play, it's immensely enjoyable.
