This is true, but it gets fullspeed on pretty much any computer that can run Windows 98 or better comfortably. So it's still widely used.trap15 wrote:ZSNES is shit
bsnes is the absolute best SNES emulation you can get, but it does need a machine with actual processing power [so, post 2008 machines for fullspeed].
Snes9x does have similar sysreqs as ZSNES [read: computer made after 2000], but ZSNES is more famous.

I spent an hour playing Aquapazza [PS3] with a buddy, was at Arcade Odyssey and we rented out a system for an hour. I don't know how much I like it. Visually, the game is pretty much Arcana Heart 3 at HD resolutions, but gameplay wise, it's pretty different, has its own thing. Something about the move properties really bugged me [like that book throwing girl's projectile splash damage, bleh].
Also, I played quite a bit of Virtual On [Arcade]. Twinsticks are fun! Getting used to them after playing on pad for so long is expensive. I spent a good 30 minutes on the machine because some random guy decided to keep challenging me and lost nearly every round. Had to give up my seat to him because my buddies were getting ready to eat [and I didn't mind, I was getting a bit tired of it
And I learned that I cannot play Temjin with twinsticks at all. Fuck.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Playing Cross Edge on the PS3 which is utterly stupid but very fun. The combat system is the game, and the combat is complex, hard and satisfying. I already have a pool of about 15 characters to choose between and the tactical depth is great. Add in stupid dialogue that occasionally has made me laugh heartily and a crappy story that provides enough motivation to move forward and you have a game I can play for a while.
Also playing DJMAX Portable 3 which is good but not up to the standard of Clazziquai edition or Fever. The 4B acts like a tutorial rather than an actual game mode and the so called hard charts (all 3 of them) are simple. 6B is very entertaining though, and I have barely touched the remix modes yet.
Just ordered XCOM Enemy Unknown for the 360 so will have that to play soon.

Black Knight Sword [XBLA]
Beat the first "loop" on hard, seems like the second will have altered enemy patterns and a true last boss (looking forward to it). Wasnt expecting much based on the first level but thankfully the level design and stuff get better starting at like the second half of stage 2. Not to mention you get the charge attack after stage 2 which makes combat much more intuitive (should've had it from the start imo.. actually the promo screenshots do). The levels have more variety than I expected which is nice. Boss fights are interesting, stage 5 boss is very cool (managed to beat it with one health left just barely.. heh) There is also a shmup sequence which is actually pretty fun and the boss fairly challenging.. won't spoil when it happens
The visuals and music are interesting as you might expect. Personally I loved the strange soundtrack, really gave the atmosphere to the levels.

I'm currently playing Sticker Star. It's a pretty not good game though so I'm just trudging through it so I can be done with it forever.

I'm currently playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on PS3. Even though the COD series is overrated and over-hyped, I find this installment to be much better than any previous COD games. The new, revised multiplayer is quite enjoyable, when the servers don't have such terrible lag at times.

KOF XIII is great. Persona is shallow but kind of fun. BlazBlue indeed sucks in all of its incarnations.

KOF13 is pretty good. I don't like P4A. When I play BlazBlue, I feel like I could be playing Guilty Gear instead.
KOF2002 will always be my favorite, but eh.
Was really bored, played Kirby's Dream Course [SNES]. Good fun, haven't played it in years.

P4A is so offensively bad I took it back before even bothering to go online. Battle Fantasia a legit good Guilty Gear alternative? I'm aware it plays more like SF, but I'd like to be able to enjoy something else from Arcsys for once...

So, you played some people who have no idea about the game and decided KOF XIII is not good? What are exactly the reasons it's bad? Athena doesn't panty flash?KAI wrote:XIII great? P4A Fun? Something really awful happened this saturday, and I missed it.
Persona is pretty good for modern Arcsys. A huge step forward from BB. You can do damage without 30 second long combos.

K' is useless, Clark is broken as fuck and that mechanics/physics/slow-paced action. KOF 2002UM is gold compared with that.
Maybe is just the first impression but so far I don't like XIII.
P4A looks decent but, a shotocan character without uppercut? why?!

Even SNES9x runs slow on my machine, if I enable transparencies. I found a better alternative than ZSNES though, SNESGT. It seems to emulate the sound better than ZSNESnull1024 wrote:This is true, but it gets fullspeed on pretty much any computer that can run Windows 98 or better comfortably. On topic, I'm playing Mobil 1 Rally Championship, finished the first 5 rallies in 1st place getting 20 points in each one, then on the last rally I did so bad I only got 2 points... And I still won the championship, lol. Now the A8 championship got unlocked and I'm trying the new powerful cars. Great game

LOL. K' is top tier. That's why I tell you to play it against someone who knows, or watch some videos before jumping to conclusions. Clark is OK, but not great. A scrub killer though. Game is quite fast paced.KAI wrote:K' is useless, Clark is broken as fuck and that mechanics/physics/slow-paced action. KOF 2002UM is gold compared with that.

And, uh, all characters have some kind of reversal in P4A. They just cost some gray life to perform.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I played quite a bit of Bulk Slash on my Saturn last night since I wasn't quite ready to go to bed at 2:00 in the morning...
Things in the game were going just fine, and the game itself is always fun to play (though the length of the game and lack of save feature kind of spaces out my playthroughs), but man, that last boss is a total bitch.
In a game about being a mech that can turn into a jet and fly anywhere, the last boss rush (four bosses in a row! five, if you count the final bosses 2 forms) puts you in really enclosed, tight spaces. Which ramps up the difficulty pretty fast. It doesn't help that if you die anywhere along the way, you have to restart the really looong final level over again.
The game moves at a swift pace up until that last level. The level and the bosses themselves are fun and creative, but it gets tedious doing that stuff more than twice in a row.
Does anyone who has played Bulk Slash know where the M.I.S.S. navigator is in the last level? I've searched that place up and down and can't find her. I suspect you have to beat the game with all 6 other MISSes first.

What's the deal with the cover of Bulk Slash? Every auction I've seen has said that it's stuck to the CD case and that that's somehow "normal". It looks amazing fun but I have issues with spending money on knackered stuff.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Well, I can tell you what i know from -my- copy.
Bulk Slash doesn't have a "manual" per se - it's just sort of like a fold-out sheet of like 9 or so squares, detailing pointless stuff like the age of the girls in the game, and what you can buy from the Hudson shop(!).
The cover of this sheet, which is the box-art, has this weird glossy surface that makes it stick to the jewel case, but you can get it out with a little finagling. I'll take some pictures and edit them into this post in a little bit.

and yet bsnes is still behind ZSNES when it comes to certain features and the roughness of the UI (pulling down a menu during gameplay leads to the currently buffered sound being repeated AW YEA what is this)trap15 wrote:ZSNES is shit. There's the Satakore version, which I can confirm has a non-sticky cover. Had my pick of prints and actually went with the budget release for that reason. Apparently some Satakores are pretty rare in their own right, but whatever... just wanted the game in a more standard format.TransatlanticFoe wrote:What's the deal with the cover of Bulk Slash? Interesting to hear the original print is a fold-out manual too, Ing - wondered if it was just cost-cutting.
Bulk Slash does rock. On par with the PS1's Silent Bomber for simple, hyper-destructive 3D action with a killer premise and smooth controls. Soundtrack is awesome cheese too.

Sonic Battle [GBA]
Has a rather PS1 vibe to it, right down to the jittery polygons. Playing it on a TV. My nephew was playing, but we're on Knuckles' story, which is easily the hardest part of the game [Knuckles vs 3 Guard Robos].

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Its soundtrack is my favorite type of girly anime j-poppy rock. The only knock against it (apart from your ugly pre-rendered character sprite) is that gauntlet of a last level - then again, I'm not a "pro" at the game by any means, so I'm sure there are better ways of dealing with that stretch at the end! At the same time, it's one of those games that no one talks about, barely any videos up on youtube (was it more popular in Japan or on niconico?), never on a list of "Games to import."BIL wrote: Interesting to hear the original print is a fold-out manual too, Ing - wondered if it was just cost-cutting.

Hell, I don't even remember how I found out about the game. Rock-solid fun though.
My copy of Elevator Action Returns came in today just as I come to visit my folks for the holidays, so I'll have to post some impressions later tonight when my mom is done watching her travel-channel ghost-detective shows... >.>

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
GTA: Vice City Stories [PSP].
Just started. Pretty enjoyable. I keep failing missions because I accidentally manage to blow up damn near every car I enter.
Seriously, are all the cars rigged with dynamite or something?
My PSP stick is busted [and I just fucking replaced the stick, haven't even needed it for a game until this one], so I have to manually switch between digital and analog control in the menu to do things like say, switch weapons... >_<
The stick sends almost random inputs so I turned it off.
[edit]
on that fucking boomshine mission, what is the point
Seriously. I played the PS2 version ages ago and it took ages to beat this damn mission. It's not fun, it's just annoying and tedious. Really tempted to download a save file to skip this, but eh.
It's even worse because I can't lower/raise the forklift while driving -- my analog stick is broken.
Spent a good hour trying to get a massive chain reaction of exploding cars to vent. Got 5 in a row.
There is no reason to run this game from UMD, loading it with off the memory stick and at a blazing 333Mhz fixes a lot of the game's loading related glitchiness that everyone complains about. Actually, there is no reason to ever load from UMD [except when copying your game to your memory stick], but that's beside the point.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Just finished Risen 2. Not a bad game overall but, man, it has one of the worst end games ever. So much for Mara being that fearsome uber powerful monster that could destroy the world: even the sand demons at the beginning of the game are much harder than she is. I'm not surprised she's such a pushover with that 10-30 sword of hers. She's a powerful demon with countless monsters at her service but she can't get a weapon better than the ones you get at your first visit to Tacarigua? LOL.
Better than having to fight countless lizard men at least I guess.
