I don't understand why people don't encode things to a standard format (i.e., .iso) that can be used by ANYTHING. Proprietary formats used by software that only comes in free trial periods isn't the way to go people.
Let me say Pepsi Generation

Alas, she is released. (the demo anyway).
So far, this vertical shmup looks very proffesional. The menus are great and there's an opening story scene whit dialogue between characters before your mission starts to defend your planet/base from the invasion.
yr some kind of a magical woman (french witch?) who has to protect and defend everyone with your blast power and super special Drill
there's a normal wide tap (A button) shot, streaming hold (A button) shot, a special combo drill (B button) that slowly decreases in size. You can Extend the drill by holding A+B but you cannot move while extending the drill.
I didn't get too far, but level designs are quite nice, there seem to be 4-5 different kinds of enemies in the first level, and bullet patterns have a slow Shikigami no Shiro II type flow. Destroying the huge ground turrets will shake the whole screen for a cool panic effect.
In the main menu, if you hit "surprise" 3 times, you get to play in hardcore mode.
I highly recommend this one.
peace,
Kingbuzzo.

For 56K users, it'll take about 2.5 hour d/l for DC Drill...
Since I'm on wee 56K modem, I just wanted to say that it'll take about a 2 1/2 hour download for the 33.6MB file of the DC Drill cdi. format file.
It was well worth IMO for the DC shmup demo d/l...it's not everyday a new DC shmup demo comes down the pipeline. ^_~

oops yes pardon me, however i was making a general comment that the devs website would benefit some screens.
just played it for 5mins seems quite nice, decent sprites game mechanics, altho i always like games that allow you to power up your gun and/or give you options to collect, other than that its great, the dialogue at the start is a bit cheesy but very japanese, i await the full game (and a secret option to take the characters clothes off

No bootdisc or anything. I just burned it using a demo of DiscJuggler and it worked fine. I have read that the .cdi format is an exclusive to DiscJuggler, so it may not work with other burning software. This is the first DC game I've ever downloaded and burned, so I don't know a whole lot about it. Have you used that software to burn DC demos before?deadninja wrote:Does this demo require a bootdisc or anything? I burned it with ALCOHOL 120 this morning, but my DC just kept seeking and it never loaded.
Here's what I read on megagames.com
Hope that helps.CDI's are exclusive to DiscJuggler and are the defacto standard for Dreamcast games. CDI's, as a rule, are almost always selfbooting games, meaning that no Dreamcast Boot CD is necessary to play the game. DiscJuggler was the first program discovered that could easily backup the DC game's specialized CD layout information, and thus making the copied games able to selfboot. Nero can also burn selfbooting games from an image, but DiscJuggler was favored by the ripping community and became the standard.

I normally convert them to nero images using cdi2nero. It has worked fine for me.Have you used that software to burn DC demos before?
[Edit:] Just finished giving it a try... It was really great. There were some very unique patterns. I like the part where with the large bullet pattern and nothing to destroy. I also like the spiders that weave a web of bullets. I can't wait to see the final version.

Very promising demo! I love the music and am pleasantly surprised with the artwork/graphic design. The game feels smooth in gameplay and luckily has a clearly visible hitbox (contrary to some commercially published games ...*cough* ...Mushi... *cough*).
Explosions (both soundswise as visuals'wise) can use some more spice though. SFX wise I'd also like sound when you're shooting and (dare I say it...) spoken dialogue.
All in all I am more than impressed by the quality of the demo already. I can't wait for the final version. Please finish it!
PS. how about a semi commercial release (like for instance: Inhabitants)?
I'd buy it.

You need a little utility called CDIRip (I used version 0.6.1...if you can't find it, PM me with your email or something and I can send you a copy). Launch CDIRip, open the .cdi file, it'll create two Toast session data files. Go into Toast, set it to write a Multi-track CD-ROM XA, drag the Session 1 file to the Toast window. Click Write CD, choose Write Session, not Write Disc. Burn the first session, eject and re-insert the disc, clear out Toast and repeat the process with the Session 2 file. That's all there is to it.highlandcattle wrote:Please explain to me how to do thatAccutron wrote:Thanks for releasing it as a .cdi - it's a format I can actually handle on my OS9 Mac. That's why you go on ANY FILESHARING PROGRAM (P2P or otherwise) and look for a regkey.Wang_MacTavish wrote:I don't understand why people don't encode things to a standard format (i.e., .iso) that can be used by ANYTHING.
