For those who live somewhere without Twiglets, which is a sad place indeed, theyre little baked snacks with a yeast extract coating. I also used a very thin film of Marmite (which is pretty much the same stuff) instead of pizza sauce.
And it tasted good! I did overcook the cheese a little though - lesson learned.
I read the title as "Twilight Pizza" and was hoping for a thread about a Twilight Princess hack involving pizza.
I was only slightly disappointed when I realized my mistake. FYI: If anyone in the US is having a tough time finding Twiglets, you can get them on Amazon.
Ingredients:
Marmite
Pizza base
Mozerella cheese (pre-grated for the lazy)
Mini Twiglets
Directions (if you have a fan oven):
1) Ignore the instructions on the pizza base.
2) Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
3) Lightly grease a baking tray and put the base on it.
4) Spread Marmite on the base - VERY THINLY, it's strong stuff.
5) Sprinkle Mozerella on, fairly thick but don't drown it.
6) Place in the oven for 5 minutes.
7) Add Twiglets, return to the oven for another 2 minutes.
That should be spot on, mine was slightly overdone as I went for 6 minutes then 2, and the cheese bubbled a little too much.
Across the pond stateside, a new Pizza Hut Carry Out joint opened up recently. It's cool that they accept orders via on-line in addition to accepting the old standby of phone-in orders. I recall that the various Meat Lover's lineup of pizzas that they used to make back in the mid-1980s were much better than what is made/sold nowdays. The usual waiting time is about 15 minutes which is fairly average (unless it's "crunch time" when it can take upwards of up to 30-35 minutes if many phone-in or on-line orders are placed). Even walk-in orders are more than welcome as well. The pizza wars between the American pizza chains (Pizza Hut, Domino's, Ceasar's, Papa Murphy's, Papa John's, Uno's, Shakey's, etc.) are still on-going -- it never ends.
Interesting way of creating a new pizza variant, system11. I'm sure it's quite tasty indeed. Have you thought about opening up a pizza joint to sate the public's taste with your new pizza creation? It could be the start of something big.

It's actually not too hard to find Marmite around here, since several of the supermarkets have a small British food section mixed in with the other ethnic foods. I don't think I've ever seen Twiglets though, although I suspect I could get them from a specialty British food store in the next town over.
Ditto on the twiglets, and I only learned what marmit is, like, a week ago, when I heard it mentioned on some show and looked it up. I knew what vegemite was, though, and I guess they're kind of similar.

I'm curious, what do they consider "British Food"?
There aren't a whole lot of items on the shelf, and I think a lot of the stuff that's there is Heinz stuff (beans, soups, a couple of puddings including the notorious Spotted Dick.) I'd have to go over and take a closer look, maybe I'll do so after work today. I do know that they have Marmite and occasionally Vegemite, but I've never tried either one (seems to be a "love it or hate it" deal for most people.)
