Raytrace wrote:on a side, I was grabbing some wallpapers by taking screenies from Gunbuster - seriously when you really look at it, and especially as you're grabbing individual frames, the amount of different techniques and sheer detail put into the space scenes is incredible.

Photocopies, halftone patterns, what appears to be literally scratches on film letting light come through, multi coloured paint splashes and blobs. Just amazing IMO.
This is why I liked the intro to GunBuster, which takes scenes from the show. You can freeze-frame the whole intro and each frame looked like a work of art 8)

If it had been made today, the animation would be shitty CG and rotoscoping with generic designs, and the relationship dynamic between Noriko and Kazumi/Onee-sama would've been made into some perverse yuri b.s.

hahahaha

ok listen - I normally don't make gifs of things like that or to be honest humans at all (usually it's mostly the mecha in whicever show) - but I'll make em exclusively for the forum hahaha -

I'm presuming you're wanting the 'rip' scene and the kinda 'strutty walk' scene?

Jesus my waifu will kill me if she catches me makin these hahahaha

I'll make em tomorrow morning - I just finished some Kishin Corps GIFs so im kinda overGIMP'd at the moment.

I love the bit when Gunbuster is still left standing and his image comes up on the monitor in the bridge and 'Active Heart' comes on - so victorious and amazing...

^Ooooh, yeah, that'd be a good one! I'll take whatever I can get; no sense getting in trouble with the waifu!

We're pervs, but at least we aren't asking for some Cream Lemon gifs or anything

ok no worries ;) -

I'll jus do normal jiggly ones not the 'rip' ;)

and XbloX, is the scene you speak of the one you have a cap from above?

and what filesize would you(s) be wanting, I'll keep em under 980k, but if you want for some reason I can restrict them to 512k for you.

wot Imma do is I'll try and make a big bunch of Gunbuster GIFs tomorrow, and I'll include the 2 you guys want and maybe any other scenes I think you might like,

but apart from them it'll be mecha and spaceships all the way, to be honest I can't wait to make em because I'm so thick I only YESTERDAY realised that the current tumblr gif size limit is 1000k, not 500k and has been so since January of this year hahah. So I've been spending ages trying to fit all my GIFs into 500k for 10 months for pretty much no reason haha - well I suppose at least it honed my knowledge of best ways to compress etc. :p

I might make a tileGIF one too (9 X 1MB tile means I could make it pretty long) of some really iconic scene, I suppose probably something like the bit where Gunbuster rises - I love that.

Seriously even in just the little 'flicking through' snippets I was seeing last night when getting wallpaper, I know I keep saying it, but Gunbuster really has a magic to it - drama, humour, super-robots, hard(ish) sci-fi, time travel stuff, tragedy, sacrifice, just bloody everything basically haha

finished Kishin Corps - ok I still didn't really know wtf was going on by the end of it, but overall I enjoyed it all the way through, the pacing, music and mood were brilliant.

watched Dead Heat - ok it wasn't exactly the most unusual or original storyline ever, but I enjoyed it nonetheless for 30 minutes...

At first I thought you were talking about the Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo movie. I wasn't familiar with the OVA. Will get!

OK I made 41 Gunbuster GIFs - here you are:

I also managed to get a crunchyroll pass valid until mid January off a guy on tumblr, which is nice, so I think I'll try and see what vaguely modern stuff I can maybe like :D

oh god - seriously I couldn't find anything that looked like I'd like it, and honestly I was trying not to look at everything through 'big old grumpy poos' eyes, I was seriously open to liking stuff - but all I could see I might like was Bodacious Space Pirates and some Ozma thing by Matsumoto.

Oh wells back to some Patlabor TV :)

Awesome! Thanks a bunch; you're the man!

Yeah, Crunchyroll has a lot of, er...not so hot stuff. I do look through big old grumpy poo eyes all the time, though.

no worries man hope you like em :)

yeah I just couldnt find anything that I'd actually go 'I'd watch that' - though maybe there is some ok stuff in the non 'mecha' or 'science fiction' search tags, but well that's what I like mainly and within them there was pretty much NOTHING I could even contemplate watching :(.

Been considering giving Crunchyroll a go for a while. It seems like a pretty neat svc to have on the PS3(consider I never use netflix or anything).

I might install the PS3 app to see what it's like

I dunno though as a rough estimate about 70% of the series listed in it's 'shows' page had pinkhaired maid outfit type girly stuff on their covers, while I accept this may be a large part of anime and of anime which is liked in Japan, it is certainly not what I'm into :(

'Girls Und Panzer' - I do like tanks so maybe if the mecha art in that is nice enough I'll give it a go, though it does seem to have a lot of cutesy school stuff :(

ok Speed Racer is there which is nice, and I'll watch the Culture Japan visit to I.G. thing.
