This is why I liked the intro to GunBuster, which takes scenes from the show. You can freeze-frame the whole intro and each frame looked like a work of artRaytrace wrote:on a side, I was grabbing some wallpapers by taking screenies from Gunbuster - seriously when you really look at it, and especially as you're grabbing individual frames, the amount of different techniques and sheer detail put into the space scenes is incredible.
Photocopies, halftone patterns, what appears to be literally scratches on film letting light come through, multi coloured paint splashes and blobs. Just amazing IMO.


If it had been made today, the animation would be shitty CG and rotoscoping with generic designs, and the relationship dynamic between Noriko and Kazumi/Onee-sama would've been made into some perverse yuri b.s.
