Thanks for that!

Thanks, currently it plays only as tate. But it's possible to rotate controls. Which works surprisingly well!
Whether there will be a letterbox tate vert mode or not hasn't been decided yet. But the NEOGEO can't rotate sprites so it will be a little bit difficulty to pull off. We basically would need to program the game twice and need to rotate and scale all graphics.
I didn't see what you had posted before, and it seems to conflict with this. So, which are we supposed to believe? Playing the game "in tate, but not tated" might work fine as far as the physical controls go, but it sounds like you'll have to tate your head to write down your scores or look at the bombs counter. Or is that not what THE meant by his post? Of course, "vertizontal" means something else entirely from rotating some screen elements.

Also lol at playing a vert in hori mode. I don't see that as likely to be intuitive.

They can probably rotate the assets for the HUD for yoko mode, since there aren't too many, and placing them in more normal spots for yoko also shouldn't be a big deal.

Indeed; would be nice to get it "from the horse's mouth" instead of seeing apparently conflicting statements, though!

Yes, the HUD rotates too. I forgot to mention it in the article description.

No need to ghetto tate your head

I'm late to the party on this one, but a vertical maniac Toaplan-esque MVS shmup? I want in! Can I afford it, is the real question. If it's out 2013, I guess I've time to save!

And I'm fascinated by how you guys do things at NG: DEV. Now I think about it, your story might even be good for a feature in that magazine what I'm editor of.

Yes; I should clarify that when I was talking about X/Y differences and badass raster optimizations I was speaking of the sprite hardware. The fix layer (which is there for HUD stuff) might have been technologically competitive ca. 1980. It's basically text mode with custom fonts.

On it sir!

I'll order a DC LE, and finally get around to ordering that Gunlord DC LE I've wanted for ages (how I rue missing out on the MVS version!).

EDIT: THE - is the a place you guys list not just all your games, but all the various versions (LEs, CEs, 1.5s etc.)? I see you list your games on your website, but not all the versions, and your shop only shows the in stock versions). Thanks!

EDIT 2: NEO XYX DC pre-ordered! Gunlord DC will have to wait until after payday!

I hope it's just the effect from being recorded with a video camera, but I got slightly seasick from watching that, the left-right in-game camera movement is pretty fast. Aside from that, it's looking good.

You know who to call when you need direct feed 60FPS video recorded. ;)

I agree now that you mention it, it would be better if the scenery position moves with the player instead of being an edge push - for example look how Raiden Fighters Jet does it.

I agree with Ghegs and system11; that sort of scrolling isn't much my favorite. Though it's preferable to what R-Shark does, where it's sort of like edge-push, but it only scrolls at a fixed speed, so it side-scrolls too slow if you have a fast ship.

I noticed the scrolling seemed off as well. I had to watch it twice to make sure it wasn't just the camera..

From a technical standpoint, this is what I've always done for my STG:

When player is moving horizontally, scroll screen by a factor of his speed (I think 1/2 speed usually works nice). If at the edge of the screen, stop scrolling and just let the player move normally. This does cause "screen shift" where the "center" of the play field gets shifted to the side, but I think almost all STGs have that, so I think you should be fine with it.
