I'd like to see another awesome final boss like O.V.U.M. His taunts and the general epicness of that final battle in Gradius Gaiden was unlike anything else in the other games. especially because it took more than 5 seconds to beat him. I still say the battle shoulda been tougher, such is deserving of such an awesome boss.

anyway, I really don't care who makes it, as long as they don't completely ruin the feel of it.

to be honest, I've never played a gradius game, I've just seen playthroughs on youtube and love the series.

well, mon frere, if you have a psp, it's time you got yourself the Gradius collection and get all four gradius games on one UMD.

Then, the next step is to get crackin'. And by that, I mean dying because the majority of time in Gradius is spent in death.

If you have a saturn, Gradius Deluxe Pack has the first two. Gradius III and IV is a PS2 bundle that's worth it. And there's also the salamander deluxe pack too.

You've got a lot of work ahead of you mr. ace pilot.

lol @ everyone's responses. varying degrees of rage.

anyway I would, but Gradius is the type of game that I prefer to watch instead of play. lets see... how can I make you guys angrier...

The only R-type game I played is R-type command, I don't have an Xbox360, I don't use Mame... hm... what else...

R-Type isn't that great, you're not missing much. Go play Gradius. Gaiden and the first one are the best, though 5 and 2 aren't chopped liver.
Everybody should use MAME, why the fuck don't you use MAME?

Now that I think about it, Chuck Norris really is the Touhou of action movie stars.

"The Reimu" maybe, anyway that original remark makes perfect sense, Gradius just isn't that popular, maybe V is a little bit.
Speaking of V, is it really a step back? Why is there...apprehension regarding another Gradius by Treasure?

I think it was a step back from Gaiden, but it's a rad game that's well-liked and a huge step up from 4. Most people consider it the best game in the series, going by top shmups lists. But more people have played 5 than Gaiden.

Possibly due to Gradius V's glaring flaw, its "epic" running time. It's a big grand shooter epic that could've done with being tightened up to half the hour-plus duration. With skippable cutscenes. The game is pretty damn solid otherwise, it's just bloated.

Half the reason people like V is because it's not like other Gradius games. All those crazy option types like freeze and direction so you don't need to bother about placement, instant respawn instead of checkpoints, way better default guns so you can just hold down shoot instead of thinking about when to fire, stuff like that. It's popular, but for all the things that make it not Gradius. Gaiden plays more like a standard Gradius game, and that puts a lot of people off.

Because they'll put more unskippable cutscenes in it!

Hi

I like the initiative but recognize that it is very difficult to make another sequel to Konami Gradius.
Anyway it's okay to try :)

Yeah, that and the absolutely tiny hitbox makes it actually much more accessible than your standard Gradius game. I thought it did a very good job of capturing the 'spirit' of Gradius while being extremely modernized. The lengthy playtime makes it a test of endurance, but really the cutscenes you have to sit through are the worst part about the game.

^this.

And this is also what Gradius 6 needs to be - a tightened version of G5. Technology has progressed so artists can probably now create levels that aren't all grey, industrial corridors. They could do the green goo better now too.

VI needs to be Gaiden meets V. Keep the dick-around-with-your-options button from V and the gauge edit from Gaiden along with its superior ship lineup/shield selection.
Keep Gaiden's graphical style.

Not sure what the beef with Treasure is. Gradius V was incredible. I'd much rather see them make a new one than anyone else.

^^^ totally agree man. Gradius V is beautiful in terms of gameplay, art style and soundtrack. Can't understand why anyone would be against treasure making 6. It would certainly be far superior to anything konami would manage. Infact I can't think of an announcement in the shmups world that would make me happier. Ah we can dream...

Gradius V is a masterpiece.
It's almost incredible how much more awesome than the previous chapters it actually is.

If Treasure makes another one they can come and TAKE MY MONEY now.

I came here expecting nonsense, but got this instead.
I can say I totally agree.

Ultimately, the only company I'd like to see take on Gradius, other than Treasure, is Cave. Mix it up with a 2d gaiden-esque sidestory, and make it nuts.

One can dream.

The game is way too long because of how extremely slow the pacing is compared to other Gradius games, some of which have even more stages. The soundtrack, while very nice music, is slow and lethargic to match. Treasure would probably do more of the same with 6.
It would certainly be far superior to anything konami would manage.
This I can agree on though, if Otomedius (and pretty much their entire catalog nowadays) is anything to go by.
Dimahoo is a fun game.

Eh, maybe G.Rev could manage something? I know I'm biased because I like all their games. But they make a lot more "classic" type shmups, in my eyes, anyhow.
