Hey everyone.
We're new to the forum but have been playing shmups since the Genesis/MD days. This forum looks really cool.
One of our favorite series is Gradius, which sadly hasn't had a new entry in the core Gradius series since 2004. I think with the release of ZOE HD and Konami clearly at the top of its game, now would be a great time to see the Vic Viper resurrected.
To help this cause, I've created a fan page on Facebook for fans to "Like" and share with Konami. Hopefully they'll get the message.
M2 would be a good choice as they have experience with the Gradius franchise.. although G.Rev might be able to handle it too. I guess the challenge would be maintaining the series' familiarity while making it fresh somehow...
My strange fantasy would be to see Kojima Productions make it and maybe (MAYBE) somehow relate it to the ZOE Vic Viper... I could see it taking on an even greater cult status if that were to happen..

I'd take a Gradius Gaiden 2 since Gaiden is the only good Gradius.

Well, weren't the Otomedius games done internally(?). That seems to be your Gradius VI and VII, or at least the best Konami can muster these days. An outside developer would be a must.

So he can include an unnecessary and convoluted story in a shmup? Fuck no, JUST FUCK NO, it's a bad idea.
Also with Konami of today, I would rather them not fucking have to do anything with the new gradius. Look what happened with silent hill.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

wtf is Xexex? I said a CANON one. not a game with gameplay properties of both games, not a fan game, but an actual canon game.
at any rate, it'd be nice if they made a sort of a close to the series in which you find and destroy the true source of all bacterian, ending the story for good.
and Kaiser, there's nothing wrong with a story in a Shmup. it makes the game feel more real.

Considering that the games are made by two different companies, one of which has been flirting with closure for some time now, I doubt that'll ever happen...shmup series can't be "officially" grafted together quite so easily as, say, tourney fighters, though fans have had a go at it.
It's funny - I've yet to beat a single Gradius game, but I would heartily welcome a new entry to the series.
I would probably hire out some company like G.Rev to do the art design or something, because Otomedius Excellent looked pretty mediocre, visually-speaking.
As for actual programming? I'm not sure. Because I don't know how many shmup veterans are left in Konami, and I'd rather not see Treasure do another shmup! : p
Maybe throw some ex Takumi and Psikyo employees into there? Ha hah hah.

It's not necessarily the discussion; it's the way you handle yourself and the way you seem oblivious to everything and don't bother to type shit into Google when you don't know what it is. Also using the word canon.
It wasn't as if I didn't know what xexex was, I was implying that I'd like to see a game that takes place it both "universes" and unites them as one. I suppose I communicated that rather poorly.

First of all, I didn't even do anything in that thread. other than clarifying what I meant by "other" games, I suppose. Second of all, how do you know he was talking to me and not you? Third of all, what does that have to do with THIS thread?

What I like about these last couple of posts is that they're whining and not talking about Gradius. Perfect for a Gradius topic.
Who would be the best group to make a Gradius-style game? G.Rev? Success (anyone left)? Another Treasure bout?
Any new Gradius game though needs to have Moai return. I don't know why Treasure didn't include them, unless they were still riding off the artsy reputation of Ikaruga and thought that they were too cartoony.
I always wondered if the ring generators on GV's first boss were a stealth Moai reference. In the heat of battle they have a rather human profile with "eyes" and a "mouth."
