The best of luck Twitch. Maybe to some staying put doesn't seem such a good idea... but people will deal in different ways and if this is what Twitch wants to do, we should all shut the fuck up and wish him the best. Thinking you you dude.[/quote]

I understand that leaving everything, home, loved ones, affects... It's not an option really. His Grandma is at the hospital, I think I'd stay with her if I were him. I hope the hospital is a safe structure.

Hey Twitch, we want a photo of your snakes! ^_^ Like Minzoku's gerbils, they too must be part of our community!

You know I was going to be polite here and say "stay safe, Twitch" or some other bullshit but fuck that.

I fuckin hate dumbasses who say "I lived through the last storm so I can take his one on" cue beating of their skinny ass chests. Does anyone ever say "Gee I took a bullet before, I CAN DO IT AGAIN?" You got lucky you damn idiots. It doesn't mean the gods have a special place in their heart for you after you live through just one storm or two. Just because you win one poker game does not mean losing is a part of the past!

Now with that said, Twitch stay safe.

Frankly in this position I'd have headed West to AZ right after Katrina- I would be rather skittish myself after seeing New Orleans get it so bad. That's too much of a close call IMO.

With that said, please be safe Twitch. Here's hoping your grandmother pulls through OK. God bless.

Actually Twitch, if you booby trap your house, and some criminal breaks in and smashes, trips, plunges into, or otherwise gets injured by, one of your booby traps, that person actually has the right to sue you.

It would be funny if it wasn't true, but criminals have actually done this in the past before, so if you do decide to leave, I'd honestly think twice about this.

The Hospital might be a good place, to go, but they may have to evacuate that.

In any case Twitch, I respect whatever you choose to do, but seriously do think about leaving, and about the financial support offered by people in this thread. I will continue to pray for you.

And speaking of leaving, would the rest of you who disagree with Twitch's current decision to stay, who can't be POLITE about it, please leave this guy the hell alone?? :?

Which is why I think 75% of the lawyer population should be destroyed every year.

That's total bullshit. It's not a right, it's just something fucked up which has been granted by the courts because this country favors the criminals.

I fucking hate most lawyers.

However, if someone breaks into your home and you're there, you have all the right to blow his head off. IIRC. It's your property and you're defending yourself from invasion.

Any sane judge will dismiss a case like that in a heartbeat. But how many are sane?

Reminds me of that Married With Children episode when the burglar sued Al for punching him/rubbing his ass.

Huh, where exactly is Rita right now? is there a site to monitor the situation real time?

I've read pretty scary things on the newspaper this morning... Like this city, Galveston, being destroyed by an hurricane at the beginning of previous century... caused like 6000 to 12000 deaths.

However, they also said that Rita has been classified down to level 4 again.

Good sites for monitoring:

National Hurricane Center
SkeetoBite

As to Twitch deciding to stay in the path, well, the storm's forecast to land well north of Corpus, so, you got lucky. Probably. Make sure you actually have some plywood next time though, yes?

Actually if some cop comes into Twitch's house looking for survivors and gets killed by one of those booby traps, Twitch is looking at the chair.

http://www.weather.com/

So many people died in Galveston 1900 because the weather service guy there was like "Naahhhh, that storm's not gonna hit us!" so the whole town stayed, went about their business etc, until it was too late. The storm surge completely submerged the island. There were more bodies than survivors, and pretty much every building on the island was flattened.

Rita has slowed its westward progression and is moving more north now, and will come ashore near the Texas-Lousiana border. The path has shifted enough that Twitch should be out of extreme harm. Louisiana, however, is gonna take it in the butt again. It will be on the 'bad' side of the eye, the side where the rotation is moving the same direction as the hurricane itself.

Thanks for marking "TWITCHtown" on the map :) It helps someone like me: I actually heard of Galveston for the first time some months ago, on KRose station in GTA... There's a nice song about a guy whose exes ladies live all in Texas, so he had to go live in Tennessee...

Wrong. So wrong. (well, right to me, wrong to the judicial system).

Florida recently enacted a law allowing that behavior. But many states do not unless you feel you are under an immediate threat for your life. I think that's fucked up, but it's the law.

At least in my state, if an intruder ran up, stabbed a family member, and started to run away and you shot them in the back; you are in deep shit. Especially if the intruder doesn't die. He's taking you to court to sue you. You just ruined his gymnast career. His singing career. His pro NFL career, etc....

Fucked up.

To me, it makes perfectly sense that the law tries to protect/value more a human life (the "invasor") than a property.

I haven't been to this site since my last post...where I was clearly angry with Cigs The Cat.

Anyway, we are no longer in harms way...as Rita has gone after Louisiana again. Other parts of Texas such as Houston are evacuating as well.

I would like to apologize to Cigs for calling him names, and being a jerk.
Sorry cigs.
Anyway, at the time I was drinking, and was severly stressed out about the whole hurrican situation. My grandmother who is basically my "mother" is still ill in the hospital. Things are not the same around here without her company.

I'm just gratefull that the storm Rita spared us. My heart goes out to the others now involved.

Doesn't LaserOption live in Houston?

Also...just heard on the news. People are backed up in traffic for up to 100 miles in some parts of the highways!!!! Some are getting impatient and turning around and going BACK home!
The news teams are trying to cover this so that they may offer alterantive routes to evacuate.

I supposed I should be thankful that Rita is hitting an almost completely empty part of the U.S. instead of East Texas but I'm not. My city will not get any badly needed rain and it will retain its extremely stuffy "windless" climate.

Property doesn't recreate itself. Humans do. I'm all for the blowing away of the ones who throw away their place in society by stealing from or attacking others. Got shot in someones house while robbing it? Yeah well, my heart bleeds - shouldn't have gone in there. In the UK, the penalties are even worse - just beat an intruder up a little and you could be going to prison. Insane.

As for Twitch staying put - I'd do the same unless I had family pushing me to do otherwise. Just up to me? I'd stay as long as I lived above sea level - it was the flooding that really fucked New Orleans up, stupid place to build a city really. When it was founded I suspect they didn't know any better.

You're kidding. Each living being is one of a kind, and once lost, it's lost forever. Property it's just things, and they don't "disappear" if stolen, you know... nothing is created and nothing is destroyed, but everything changes. Besides, I think property does recreate itself: don't you have the saying "money makes money"?

Besides, it's not like our society is so perfect that I can really judge the "guilty" and the "innocent", let alone take one's life. I know that sometimes is necessary and I just hope I'll never be in that situation.

Well, that's why you better make sure your shots count. Dead men tell no tales. (But yeah, life is to be respected. It's fuxxored up, indeed)

You can also counter sue him because he did the same to your family member. And if you gotta pay him, he's gotta pay your family member. So in that case you can call it even, and then proceed to prosecute the actual crime. I wonder if I could become a judge... shmuppers would make good ones, after all we fight for great justice.

Kill a worthless POS burglar and another will spawn naturally. A human life is lost. Oh my, cry a river of tears. That's ok though, as theres a queue of worthless POS burglars waiting to take their place. Smash an antique mirror and it's gone. That was something worthwhile - a record of something someone did.

Seriously - as time goes on, and more happens in the news, and the more time I spend in working life, I place less and less value on human life. We are an advanced form of vermin in desperate need of a cull since we show absolutely no signs of managing to regulate our numbers.

When someone shows footage of an injured dolphin, I feel kind of sad. When they show a downed airliner, I honestly just don't care anymore, although it would be nice if they were lawyers and politicians.

I agree with bloodflowers about the state of the human race. It's not all of us, i know. I prefer to think of everyone as an individual. But you CANNOT deny - we are monsters. Look at what we do to billions of animals everyday when now we could probably just clone meat and make it taste better than real. That's just a small example.

Hmm. It doesn't make really sense. Robbery and stealing make one's life worthless, while mirrormaking, craftmanship does create something that you appreciate? And of course, you're the judge on what's worthy and what's not. Who's praised for his creations, and who's just another insect.

Seriously... Humans might be vermins, but then why all this considerations for vermin's excrements like antique mirrors (or art, music, shmups for that)? It sounds just like an excuse to justify the abuse of self defense.

Buy your mirrormaker an airplane ticket. The plane will crash and he will die, but since the mirror is intact at his home, then it's all fine. You value your memory cards more than your life? weird. ^_^

Finally about your cynism... Not being a religious person I share your pessimistic vision. However, it would be foolish to value a law for how it's close to my own vision of the world. I know, people die by thousands every minute in this world, to the point it seems it doesn't do any difference. But it does, to the one who dies. Since I grew with egalitarian ideas, I personally would be reluctant to judge my similar. And taking life is extremely severe judgement.
