Versus mode was lame.
It's funny you should say that, because just a few days ago I was playing VS. with an A.I. opponent, and I was thinking "man, I don't understand why ANYONE would hate the VS. modes in the ZOE games." Especially if you play as Jehuty with minimal handicaps and jack up your enemy's power to max. THEN it really becomes a steep climb for victory. Basically, find an opponent who is closer to your skill level. If you're playing an opponent who just mashes the attack button without much care toward Virtual On Oratorio Tangram style dashing, then of course he will seem easy and the mode will suck/seem pointless/etc.
Neither do I understand the "mashing" complaint. Can you press random buttons and kill a bunch of enemies in the process? Sure you can. But can you win every fight like this? Hell no. If you applied that strategy to basically any boss fight in the game (especially Jeane), then you are signing your life away in blood on the bottom left line. The same could be said for every great fighting game, ever. The true test is fighting the enemies who are too smart for your cheap tricks. That is what separates the bad players from the elite, and yes, it is what makes a game great.
If I started button mashing against Seth Killian, for example, then I would childishly forfeit my one chance of having a worthwhile match against him. Even if I lost, as long as I used my best strategy and attempted to understand what he was doing right that I wasn't, the match would indeed be worthwhile.
