Hmmm, the 360 does seem to be attracting the attention of shmup developers, one way or another...if this continues, it'd be quite a change from the current PS2 near-domination of this generation's shooter releases. Still gonna be awhile for me before I get a new system though, whatever it is, heh heh.

Sweet, nothing would make me happier than to see the failure of the ForemanGrillStation 3 so those arrogant A-holes at Sony get what they deserve for subjecting consumers to shoddy hardware and inane policies. Most developers never liked the PS2 to begin with, they just put up with it because it had the largest userbase, but that's irrelevant now that the next generation of consoles is coming.

I hope this one comes to the states. I don't know if I can pony up for a Jp 360 and a US 360.

Ah hell, what am I talking about. If it stays a Jp exclusive, of course I'll get a Jp 360.

...and a PS3...and a Revolution, probably. I'm such a sad case.

I don't know where they got this. However it is known that they are working on a Taito Type-X Aracde game.

Well Dengenki Online had some suggestions of this. I posted about it a few days ago in this thread. Too early to know for sure though. It still could just be speculation/mistranslation/false rumor...

Once again, there have been XBOX's that have failed. And, once again, it matters most HOW a person treats their console. People who place their slim-line PSTwo right next to their TV's, sandwhiched in between that and another console have no business complaining about the PSTwo overheating, or Sony making "shoddy hardware" Same with XBOX owners.

In fact, I'm sure if you took a pole of the general gaming population, the vast majority of PS2 or PSTwo or XBOX owners would report having had no problems. It's just like the news, no one get's on the news by saying what a really great day they had; it's mostly the negative stuff that get's reported.

And why does it matter what the heck the PS3 looks like? Or are we buying figurines here and not gaming consoles? Besides the fact that the 360 will probably only be able to play a pretty small fraction of the XBOX's titles, since, as I've just learned, Microsoft will have to make patches for every XBOX game they want to make compatible with the 360. Meanwhile, with the PS3, you'll be able to play almost every PS1 and PS2 title.

@JP-I think this is great news as well, but no one, including myself, ever said that the XBOX was a "FPS-only" console, so please get over it. I own an XBOX and love it, and you obviously know that since you posted in my thread about Turok Evolution.

Because to play games on it it will have to physically be in our presence.

No loss?? So, if Panzer Dragoon Orta is one of your favorite games, and it doesn't happen to make the cut, then that's no loss? Or how about Outrun 2; there's another great game that might not make the cut; not to mention the Serious Sam games, and the numerous old-school gaming compilations from Midway, the upcoming one from Capcom, etc. There are plenty of great games, like these, that might not even make the cut, just because of sales figures. That's absurd, IMO. All this, and we still don't even know if this 360 Treasure shmup will be domestically released.

I really wish people would stop saying this. They've publically stated their eventual goal is near 100% compatability. "patches" are for games that do odd things, like access the hardware directly, or rely on some subtly broken behavior of an API call etc. They even had a financial call where they outright said they're paying Nvidia royalties in order to do the emulation. The games they have to 'patch' will rightly be prioritized based on popularity, and they will most likely be the exception.

If Microsoft wants to pay companies to release unique, experimental or niche games on their hardware, more power to 'em. It's nice to see that kind of development being encouraged rather than just "allowed" at most.

I don't get it.
Why are people bashing the PS-3 for its looks & the boomerang controller?

I think the PS-3 & the joypad look cool. Very retro PCE-DUO feel & that cool joypad looks like the ikaruga ship. Only thing missing is the ability to flip & change colours... Now that would be something. ;)

Most people’s choices will be based on system’s library of games rather than its looks anyway.

Hear hear. I read something a while ago about Xbox wanting to support more "high-risk" genres on the 360, so maybe what we're seeing here is some evidence of that. I find most of what the Xbox offers at the moment utterly tiresome, so they as a company are obviously really climbing in my esteem with things like this. :D

Keep in mind, MS also funded Tekki (aka Steel Battalion), a high-cost project with a massive controller that they knew would be a niche product at best. Motives be damned, that's something I like seeing from a console maker.

I have plenty of issues with their approach to the 360 hardware, but their relations with developers is something I want to support.

Nah, if it's strictly a home console developed game, it'll probably be some f'd up experimental game like Bangaioh. If it's an arcade port, it'll be a port of their upcoming Type-X arcade shmup (which would make the most sense), whatever that is.

"Toy Story-like graphics!" -Ken Kutaragi

"We could have done the entire Episode 1 on a PS2 if we wanted." -Some completist who likes to rape people's childhood memories.

"You can put your PS2 on the side and it will work just fine." - Sony

"Erm, Ok. Don't put your PS2 on the side because it will wreck it." -Sony, after people complained about breaking PS2s when put on their side.

"PS2 is so powerful, it can guide an ICBM on its own. And Saddam Hussein bought a lot of them." (Help me here. What's the equivalent of "Snerd" for Sony hardware?)

"Nobody questions the placing of a gate in a home. This is the design we came up with, and gamers and developers have to get used to it. -Ken Kutaragi, wearing his Napoleon hat.

"The PS2 can compute the answer to the question of life." -Ken Kutaragi, after smoking a joint made of rolled-up PS2 chassis scrapings.

"Once burned, twice shy". Or "El que se quema con leche, le sopla hasta al requesón."

PS:

"Oh, $#@&%*!" -Ken Kutaragi, after being passed up for a promotion at Sony for not knowing when to shut the hell up.

Yes, but what does that have to do with the looks or the controller? Kutaragi is an idiot, but that doesn't really have any relevance to what was asked. :P

The PS-3 & the boomerang joypad look cool imo.
I'll be definitely getting one if the price is right & the games are good (Shmups of course ;) )

The Joypad looks just right for my grip at least.
My favorite Joypad so far, is the Microsoft Sidewinder 10 Button PC pad.

From the Edge interview with Mr. Maegawa you don't get the impression it will be project RS3 or whatever. It's getting me curious though.

I doubt they'll do this for every XBOX game. From what I've heard this is going to be very expensive to do in the first place.

If I do get a 360, it'll definately be an import 360. Because any shmups that come out here will come out in Japan, and Sonic and After Burner are the only American 360 releases I'm interested in at all-and I doubt there'll be any language issues with those two games!.

Whatever, I'm tired of arguing about all the new consoles, it's getting old.

that "eventual goal" is most likely nothing more than PR, otherwise they wouldn't be using such verbal gloves. not that it matters that much in my opinion.
