Knight's Chance (Neo Geo)

Post by Op Intensify »

This new team called Neobitz is working on their own new original Neo title, called Knight's Chance. Supposedly it's a card game, but the graphics shown so far look amazing.

No word yet on if it will be MVS, AES or both.

Their Facebook page says that it's four games in one, maybe they're all card games? Speculation based on the card-motif on both of those screenshots.

Not sure if want. Sure looks purdy, though.

It's a AES release, according to this article.
But nothing is confirmed on their FB page yet.

The graphics looks nice... so far.

But not so sure if I want to spend around 400 euros on some card games.

Yeah, if this truly is just some card games, then there's no question that the only reason they're giving it an AES cart release (as opposed to iOS/Steam/whatever) is because there's plenty of collectors who absolutely have to own every Neo cart in existence, and will pay through the nose for it. NG:DEV Team at least makes actual new VIDEO GAMES for the system, and gives them cheaper general releases on Dreamcast.

That was how the Aero Fighters 3/Power Spikes II scam was perpetrated. Some people just had to have those "unreleased proto carts" they thought were real, even with dubious authenticity, even for $30K.

Anyway, can't really get excited over a card game unless it's in the Cardfighters motif. Neat graphics, though. Looks like a genuine NeoGeo title from the early 90's.

Judging from the icons on the menu, it's:

Dragon's Hollow & Demon's Hold: Card games, one is probably poker
Cursed Mynd: Roulette?
Mystic Dice: Obvious, likely craps

It's just some casino games that are already available in thousands of iterations for every digital device in existence, Facebook included. What a tremendous waste of the Neo-Geo's capabilities. Now THIS is what they call collector exploitation, assuming this is going to sell for several hundred dollars (it's an AES game, after all). At least it's not an actual scam like the AF3/PSII debacle.

Why bother... watch it cost 500.00+ dollars.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

The bitching about this being a card game sounds exactly like bitching about shmups being shmups I heard somewhere else...

Good point, heh.

But u can just play cards for real. With good buddies and drinks even. :[ You can't beat the shit out of criminal gangs or blow up trains in a plane or decapitate rival swordsmen or any of that awesome Neo Geo stuff IRL. Unless you move to Mogadishu and that's not practical. You'll probably die as well!

Only being half serious, I don't give a toss about this thing. Lovely graphics though, makes me want to fire up Demon's Blazon.

I've got a couple PS1-era mahjong games, that somehow keep themselves entertaining through ridiculously over the top animations and voice work going on as you play the game. So there's a chance this could end up being interesting, if they make it in a similar style.

But yea, I couldn't see myself paying hundreds for it.

Yeah, if there are "reward" scenes and they look as good as the title, then I could see myself indulging.

These all look horrible. How many generic poker/blackjack games are out there for arcades, and they decided to make another that's medieval themed?! This is what I'd expect from some shitty one dollar iOS game. :/

My thoughts exactly. What a waste. The whole thing just boggles the mind.

And holy shit they're really trying to sell it at these prices?

I'm crazy enough to have bought all of NG:Dev's MVS releases, but at least those have gameplay in them. I don't think even the Neo Geo collectors care that much about the homebrew titles, but it's not like I follow their antics.

I've never understood games which allow you to do things that you always could IRL. Sports games and dice/card games make no sense electronically because there is such easy access to them outside of the electronic world anyway. Sure give me Metal slugs and Fatal furies etc, but I can do this shit without a massively expensive cart around my kitchen table.

Pretty but as stated above a waste of the NeoGeo.
The universe is neither hostile nor friendly, simply indifferent.

Even without my umbillical cable attached I still have over 12,000 plates of fortified armour AND I have my AT Field! There's NO WAY I can lose!!

IF there could only be ONE Neo Geo game

I'd rather it be Ninja Combat.

Only when you have living beings around to keep you company.
Lost Kingdoms is a card battling game that can be played competitively by two people, but I doubt it would work quite as well without electronic devices.

It's MVS. Even if the cheapo AES version were ready, there's no way to sell that shit at a profit under $200. Good lord, the shipping alone is like the entire cost of a Battlekid cart. You've all seen that AVGN scene where he dumps a Neo cart on his bathroom scale and breaks the thing.

I'll agree that I think it's strictly inferior to versions of these games that exist on LCD portables, by virtue of being slower. But that doesn't matter: this guy obviously really loves Neo Geo and really loves these types of games so he made it for himself. Hardcore enthusiasts would want it for their parlor in their arcade, and that number is under a thousand. Sales of around 2 to 3 hundred over 20 years is what I'd expect to see move.

It's so niche, that, if anything, the price they're asking is too cheap.

Watch some of that hot Farm Simulator action. Tell me that's some exciting shit.* Or that these guys are weirdos for loving this shit. Compared to the weird ass shit we're into?

Sure, if I wanted to fill out the Neo's library, I'd make an arcade style jRPG. But I made a forum post instead. It is a bitchy post. Because I had to watch a yootoob video to figure out what the four games included in this game were. Instead of the one sentence it would have taken them to tell me on their official site. It may just be me, but it helps a lot if you call Blackjack just Blackjack and Poker Poker.

* It's no Lake Dredge Appraisal, that's for sure.
PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.
