STGT'12 Week 1 Voting: "Popular Series" Week

Post by dex »

So, let's get this stuff out the way.

The voting process is simple: if you're a captain, you can send me the vote using a Private Message. If you aren't a captain, do not send me a vote.

The choices for this week are:
  • Battle Bakraid (Eighting)
  • Strikers 1999 (Psikyo)
  • Raiden Fighters 1 (Seibu)
The ballot is secret. You have until Midnight GMT of 29th/30th to send me your votes.

In an attempt to sway people in one direction, Strikers 1999 is a more straightforward game than the other two. I think more people would enjoy playing it for a week.

Battle Bakraid will give people fits, but I will be pleased any way. These are all games I needed to spend some time with in any case.

Allow me then to be the voice of RF1. It's a fun game to play, it's got the excitement factor and I think a number of players would be interested in it, if for no reason other than being able to use the RFA port for something good.

Sorry Euros.

Ghegs also has build an amazing source of information to get new players up to speed. The complete walkthrough and secrets information will allow new players to learn scoring tricks with ease. This site alone is half the reason I got so much out of RF2 in STGT'10

I am not even playing this year ( I really don't have the patience for STGTs drama anymore... but hey, go go Pelé Shooting Team :D).

But Strikers 1999 is the best game of the bunch, and both RF1 and Bakraid have some devious score systems. All three games are damn excellent though.

This is a tough choice. Don't envy the captains having to take responsibility for voting.

I'm bad at playing any of them for score but I for one would be happy to play any of them.

I'd definitely recommend Strikers 1999 - the Psikyo style is really ideal for this kind of tournament.

I'd really prefer to ensure we get at least one week that doesn't involve a looping game....looking at the proposed game list, we're due for a LOT of them, potentially all 5 weeks if voting goes that way.

Out of curiosity, are there any significant version differences between Strikers 1999 (Japan) and its International A and International B settings? I'm assuming we'd be playing it under the Japanese setting if it were chosen?

To be fair, the typical Psikyo loop is only 15 minutes long, so even a 2-ALL would take as much time as a Cave 1 loop :P

Bakraid has the most finicky and strange scoring system by far.

RF scoring really isn't that bad, it just involves very very precise play in the first stage and memorization of miclus and fairy locations. There is a grazing element but I have a feeling most people won't really pursue it. There isn't anything as technical or abstract as bonus chains in Jet (which actually remind me of Bakraid)

Strikers 1999 is extremely straightforward and a very cool game. It's also extremely difficult and I think many people will get very frustrated trying to sort out the technical bonuses.

I would be in favor of RF1, mostly because it's the only game on the list I can play without emulation (on Raiden Fighters Aces).

Will X-36 be banned if strikers 1999 gets picked? should make for a more interesting competition if people have reasons to try out different planes (unless there are some nearly impossible patterns or something on the second loop I guess)

after all you need to use a service switch to unlock it / it's not available on every machine unless the player owns it

Looking forward to see Bakraid win and watch people going insane over its bizarre scoring system.

It wouldn't be popular to do so, but I'd be in favor of this (and maybe the Slave too in RF). It doesn't MEOW constantly, but it's still boring to see one type of plane dominate on the list.

I can't remember the last time I played a RF game without a slave ship. I'm not sure I could do it haha

I can kinda of agree with this as well. Dangun ended up being a lot less fun with everyone playing as Uo Poko.

I'm not sure I've played any of these! Yay for equal footing.

Well, maybe 1999.

It's not like there's enough time for this argument to actually go anywhere, but I'm just chiming in to say that banning secret ships in these games is a pretty bad idea and the people calling for it would probably regret it as soon as they actually try playing the games without them.

For some games.

With the X-36 I can see people regretting a ban, but I don't think any of us would ever miss MEOWMEOWMEOW.

I'd be in favor of a Judge Spear/Slave ban for RF1. I like using the Aegis in that game, using its weapons takes some actual effort, it doesn't feel completely cheap, and there's more variety.

as long as its RF1 or S1999, I'll be happy. though if we do RF1, I bet I'd be the only person using the chaser :D

Slave is the only way to do RF series games IMO. For Strikers 1999, I think playing as other ships is fine.

Nowhere near as good though, the X-36 is seriously superior to the others
