Is that Gradius IV PCB a medium-res one or a low-res one, Dave K.?
Nice haul of PCBs you've got there, will they be shown at an upcoming shmupmeet?
There are still plenty of Konami shmup PCBs to aim for like the classic A-Jax PCB, Sexy Parodius, etc.
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

The PCB is capable of running both 15/24khz. I'm running it in 24khz on my Exceleena and looks fantastic.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Is that Gradius IV PCB a medium-res one or a low-res one, Dave K.?
I'm slowly getting into Konami boards, so I'm sure you'll see some at the next shmupmeet.
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
Congrats on the Konami pickups Dave_K. I had a blast with the Gradius games at the shmupmeet. I thought Gradius IV was really impressive on the supergun setup, I can only imagine how good it looks on a 24kHz cab setup.

I wondered about that - there are plenty of NMK labeled chips, I guess I just assumed. It does totally feel like an NMK game though.Dave_K. wrote:Nice get drboom! Although I also think Strahl has an NMK feel to it, there isn't any confirmed source that says they worked on it (not even JP NMK fan pages).drboom wrote:Strahl by UPL/NMK, with original art.![]()

How will you ever choose what to play?

Is this the second run rancor? What does the version screen say?
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
rancor, you are spoiled for choice! Nice gets!!!
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
I think it's actually the 3rd run. They did an initial reprint back in May when the first-run sales blew some minds at CAVE. I chatted a bit with the guys at TRY and they said that this has been a runaway success.. Hopefully there's some more money in the coffers now for some new titles down the line. Anyhow, it made me so happy to hear that. Isn't this pretty much the same story with what happened with DOJ? It was meant to be the final shmup title, but it was so successful that they pressed on with STGs? Think about all that we wouldn't have had that been the case - Ibara, Ketsui, Pink Sweets, MMP, AK...SuperPang wrote:Is this the second run rancor? What does the version screen say?

Anyhow, here's a pic of the boot screen:
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
Indeed. It was common knowledge the PGM hardware gave Cave a lot of problems but that interview reveals just how serious it was. I think Cave have been surprised by SDOJ's success. I always knew they could have another hit if they took the time to develop something that appeals more to the (hard)core audience and here it is. I'm sure it will be their biggest earner in a while so we'll see another, I'm just hoping they invested in more PCBs and aren't moving exclusively to NESICA.rancor wrote:I chatted a bit with the guys at TRY and they said that this has been a runaway success.. Looks like this run will also have the crackly audio and EX GP bug. I'm sure they could've fixed the latter easily but it would cause far too much confusion.
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
I really hope that means they'll leave all that pandering-to-the-novice gaming aside now. I don't mind if it kicks my ass, I just don't want to be bored by it.SuperPang wrote:I always knew they could have another hit if they took the time to develop something that appeals more to the (hard)core audience and here it is.

I'm on the fence myself. I enjoy SDOJ a lot and it's a refreshing return to the Ketsui/DOJ era but it's completely emasculating to an average player and for that reason I prefer Akai Katana.
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
^ I prefer World Rally to Great 1000, what are your thoughts?
Also, Night Slashers: nice get.

Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
Agreed. It steers better, especially if you switch the stick to 2-way. That being said, I would give Great 1000 the edge graphically. World Rally is pretty rough in the graphics dept IMO, but the gameplay makes up for it for the most part. I love the night levels in World Rally, you cant see shit and have to pretty much memorize the turns and obstacles.Skykid wrote:^ I prefer World Rally to Great 1000, what are your thoughts?
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
I'm a sucker for driving games; I like them both equally.
Re: The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
I never had a Saturn, so I didn't have a chance to play these awesome games before now.

Even non-Yagawa Raizing was amazing.

Finally, I got a workable Raiden board. Now just need to complete my supergun and play this baby for awhile.

Congrats Jepjepjep! Batsugun Special and Soukyugurentai are two of my all time favorites.
Another classic that you may have missed, and IMHO the best Saturn shooter, Rayforce aka Layer Section aka Galactic Attack.

Thanks chempop. I'll have to look into Rayforce.

Raiden has a weird refresh rate; I find it amazing that it still displays correctly on your Sony TV.beatsgo wrote:Finally, I got a workable Raiden board. Now just need to complete my supergun and play this baby for awhile.
